Unveiling the Ultra-Marathoner Within: My Journey to Running Bliss

Hello there, fellow travellers on the winding road of life. Today, I'm excited to share with you a deeply personal journey – my transformation from a data-driven central banker to a marathon enthusiast. My name is Frans Amakali, and I invite you to join me as we explore the highs, lows, and unexpected twists that have shaped my path from the corporate world to the marathon route.

Discovering the Joy of Running:

Picture this: it's 2015, and I find myself at a crossroads in life. Stress is weighing heavy on my shoulders, and my waistline is expanding faster than I'd like to admit. Seeking solace, I turn to the gym, only to find it uninspiring. But fate has a funny way of intervening, and it was a chance conversation with my gym instructor that changed everything. "Why not try running?" he suggested. Little did I know, those three words would ignite a passion that would alter the course of my life forever.

Conquering Challenges, Celebrating Triumphs:

From that moment on, I embraced running with a fervour I never knew I had. Marathons, ultra-marathons, trail runs – you name it, I've tackled it. Each race has been a journey unto itself, filled with moments of doubt, exhilaration, and sheer determination. Whether I'm pounding the pavement of city streets or navigating the rugged terrain of the Namib Desert, every step brings me closer to my true self.

Overcoming Obstacles:

But let's not sugarcoat it – the road to endurance running glory is paved with its fair share of obstacles. There have been injuries, setbacks, and days when the last thing I wanted to do was lace up my running shoes. Yet, through it all, I've learned that the greatest victories often come from pushing through the toughest challenges.

A Message of Empowerment:

Beyond personal achievement, my running journey is driven by a desire to inspire others. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a newcomer to the world of fitness, I want you to know that your goals are within reach. With dedication, determination, and a dash of courage, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Looking Ahead:

As I gaze into the horizon, I see endless possibilities stretching before me. With races like the Namib Race 2024, 250-kilometer ultramarathon on the horizon, I'm excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what I once thought possible. And who knows? Maybe our paths will cross on the marathon route someday.

Conclusion:

In a world filled with uncertainty and doubt, running has become my constant companion – a source of strength, resilience, and boundless joy. As I lace up my shoes and hit the road, I'm reminded of the power that lies within each of us to carve out our own path, one step at a time.

Closing:

Thank you for joining me on this journey of self-discovery and transformation. I hope my story has inspired you to lace up your own running shoes and chase your dreams with unwavering determination. Until next time, keep moving forward and embracing the adventure that is life.

Hi Frans, thanks for sharing your story. People like you and Mabasa (Zimbabwean living in Swakopmundt) are truly inspiring because your journey is authentic. You share the ups and downs. And you started running from scratch. You give me hope even tho I am a 60yr old Gogo. I so relate to the obstacles you refer to, I have also had my share. What would you attribute your trajectory as a runner to? Where does having a coach rate on that scale? By the way congratulations on smashing it out there on the route. Keep it up! All the best for the Long March. Cheers Karen (P.s. next time you see a bill board for Green Door Properties in Windhoek, that's my li'l sister)
