POST RACE UPDATE

RacingThePlanet: Georgia concluded when the final racers, Gabrijel Grubac and Sam Nissim crossed the final finishline in the cave city of Vardzia.

All racers waited for the final racers before enjoying finish line food and beer and the Awards Presentation close the finish line - this was another variation to the usual schedule due to COVID-19 restrictions preventing us having an indoor gathering in Tbilisi.

As well as a medal for every finisher, awards are presented to the Top 3 Men, Top 3 women, Age Group categories for men and women and the Special Sportsmanship and Spirit Awards.

TOP 3 MEN & WOMEN

Reinhold Hugo won the race in a time of 25 hours 29 minutes and 48 seconds

Isabelle Dufour won the women's category in a time of 34 hours 8 minutes and 19 seconds - coming in 9th place overall

In the top 6 listed here 3 represented France with single representations from Switzerland, Luxembourg and the United States.

AGE GROUP WINNERS
In an interestijng field of racers there no women in their 20's, 60's or 70's.

But there were two gentlemen in their 70's!

SPECIAL AWARDS

Michael Williams from the United States was awarded the Sportsmanship Award to recognise all the help that he has given racers in Georgia (and other racers) through his informative videos about equipment, food and packing as well as helping so many people in Georgia to make their final equipment and food decisions and to fit all of these final choices into their 25 or 32 liter backpacks.

Iris Hormann - was generally postive and helpful on the course, talking to everyone (locals, staff, racers - anyone who would listen) and getting fully into the spirit of the race and what it is all about - exploring news places, experiencing and appreciating new cultures, sharing stories and moments with racers and taking everything that came to racers (wind, rain, hail, water crossing, sheep, cows, mud, sunshine, route changes ...).

It was then back to Tbilisi to enjoy a well deserved shower, comfortable bed and think back over the week that had gone.
