Dr. David Young is an Emergency Medicine who currently practices medicine in an academic hospital in Denver, Colorado where he also teaches wilderness medicine to residents and fellows which fits perfectly as his interests include wilderness medicine, human performance, extreme environments, and race medicine. Dr. Dave completed his residency through Harvard University's emergency medicine residency program followed by a fellowship in Wilderness Medicine at the University of Colorado. He had graduated magna cum laude from the University of Redlands in 2003. At Boston University he completed his Masters in Exercise Physiology in 2005 and Nutrition in 2006, followed by his Doctorate in 2010 where he was named a Massachusetts Medical Society Scholar. Not only is Dr. Dave well qualified as a doctor he also loves to be involved in all aspects of ultra endurance events - both as an athlete as well as providing medical support as a volunteer. The Gobi March 2023 will his sixth time working on the medical team of a RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon having already worked at the Atacama Crossing 2012, the Namib Race 2016 (also in Namibia), RacingThePlanet: New Zealand 2019, the Atacama Crossing 2019 and the Namib Race 2022. He also successfully completed RacingThePlanet: Patagonia as a racer in 2017. When he is not working his interests include international travel, contemporary art, photography and many outdoor sports, including distance running, rock climbing and cycling.

Patrick Burns, M.D. is faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California.
After completing studies at Tufts University School of Medicine (Boston, MA, US) and an Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA, US) he completed fellowship training in wilderness medicine at Stanford University.
Dr. Patrick has worked as medical staff at several RacingThePlanet and 4 Deserts races including RacingThePlanet: Ecuador 2015, the Atacama Crossing 2016 and 2019, the Gobi March 2017, the Namib Race 2022 and the Gobi March 2023. In addition, he competed in RacingThePlanet: Patagonia 2017, finishing the arduous race. When not working in the Emergency Department, this active doctor enjoys his outdoor lifestyle: skiing, running, hiking, rock climbing, distance cycling, triathlons and adventure races are in his list of favorite things, in addition to traveling and cooking. Dr. Patrick joins the 4 Deserts Ultramarathon Series as the Medical Director for the Namib Race 2024.
Jason TANNER, M.D., PHD

Dr. Jason Tanner is an emergency physician at Yale New Haven Hospital and is doing a wilderness medicine fellowship with the Yale School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine. At The 20-Year Race (Jordan) Dr. Jason is undertaking the medical research study run by Dr. Steven Moore at UT Health San Antonio.
He has a PhD in Biochemistry from University of Utah from 2010, a BA in International Studies from University of Utah 2002, completed his Medical Degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2017 and his Emergency Medicine Residency, Yale New Haven Hospital 2019.
Additionally, Dr. Jason has experience in search and rescue, as well as teaching and advising on emergency and wilderness medicine topics. From 2009-2019 he was a volunteer member of the Salt Lake County Search and Rescue Team in Salt Lake City, Utah where he had numerous experiences treating and evacuating patients in hot and cold environments, and in mountainous and desert terrain and continues to be involved with the team as a medical advisor. He has also organized and taught courses of Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) and Wilderness Life Support for the Medical Provider (WLS:MP), and I have contributed to writing the textbook for this course.
Namib Race (Namibia) 2024 is Dr. Jason's first time on a RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts medical team.
