About the Namib Race and UltraLite (Namibia)

The Namib Race is a 7-day, 250 km / 155 mile footrace that takes place in the oldest desert in the world which is home to the largest recorded dunes and the most stunning and iconic desert landscape.  Over the seven days on the course competitors will experience moon-like landscape in Moon Valley, dramatic sand dunes, wide-open plains, salt pans, mountain outcrops, Atlantic waves crashing on desert beaches, dry river beds with a fascinating array of plants and animals and big African skies. UltraLite (Namibia) is held alongside the Namib Race for those who seek the challenge of an ultramarathon but with a more flexible format. The race offers adventure, endurance, and community—all in an awe-inspiring setting.

  • 05 Aug 2026 Find Out About the Competitors: The Stats, Inspiring Stories and Top Contenders

     

    We have an impressive field of athletes tackling the race. The event has a truly global field representing nearly 40 countries, with 28% of women and ages ranging from under 20 to over 70 years young. 65% of participants have raced before, including 7 members of the prestigious 4 Deserts Club. Six more people will join the 4 Deserts Club after the Namib Race. More than five people are taking on the 4 Deserts Grand Slam. There are seven Official Teams and three Group Teams. The race is rich with personal stories, with families featuring strongly and many charities being supported adding an extra dimension.

     

  • 30 Jul 2026 Photo & Video Packages

    A personalised photo package and/or video package from our professional media team are available to purchase as a special memory of your adventure including at least 10 photos of you and a video that is at least 3 minutes long. A wide selection of photos and videos can seen on the website, but you may prefer a personalised package to keep. 

  • 22 Jul 2026 Join the Sandwich Tour to Support Local Namibians

    The Sandwich Tour is an incredibly worthwhile experience, a great way to help the locals of Namibia, and understand a bit more about another side of the country. There are three tours planned on 13th, 14 & 22nd August. Find out more and book to join, or look at some of the items you can bring which can be donated to local community. 

  • 15 Jul 2026 Check Your Travel Details

    Now is good time to check your flights, transfers, get your visa, etc.  Review the Travel Information document to get all the details.  Competitors must be in the host town of Swakopmund by Fri, 14 August.

    It is time to be finalising your equipment - making the hard decisions about what to leave behind, and getting an idea of what your backpack weight will be.  Go through the equipment list, item-by-item, and look at the feature which breaks down the equipment list.
