RacingThePlanet: Brazil 2027
RacingThePlanet: Brazil is a self-supported 250km ultramarathon over six stages, launching from vibrant Salvador into the wilds of Chapada Diamantina.
Get ready for an immersion into Brazil through landscapes, history, and rhythm in the natural paradise of Chapada Diamantina. You can expect towering plateaus, hidden canyons, spectacular waterfalls, mineral-rich rivers, dirt roads through small villages, all connected by trails and dust roads from the diamond era.
Event Overview
• Distance: 250km / 155 miles over 6 stages across 7 days.
• Format: Self-supported, multi-stage ultramarathon.
• Number of competitors: limited to 150.
Dates and Host Town
• Event Dates: 13 to 22 August 2027.
• Race Starts: 15 August 2027.
• Meeting Place: Salvador.
• Race Location: Chapada Diamantina.
• Nearby Airport: Salvador.
Race Format
• Stages: 6 Stages, including one long Stage and a shorter final Stage.
• The course is fully marked – no navigation is required.
• There is a checkpoint every 10km / 6 miles.
• At the end of each Stage a Camp where you will spend the night.
• About 20% run most of the course, 60% combine a mixture of running and walking, and 20% walk the entire course.
• The cut-off times are based on a 4km / 2.5 mile per hour walking speed.
Terrain
The scenery and terrain is very diverse as you experience the different biomes that are unique to Chapada Diamantina: Mata Atlantica, Caatinga, Camp Rupestre. You can expect dust roads, rocky paths with some more technical rocky sections, single tracks, sandy paths through red, black and white soil, and dust and river crossings on almost every Stage, but some are very minor where you may be able to keep your feet dry.

• Salvador: The great cultural and historical centre of Brazil, where Afro-Brazilian heritage is strongest and where capoeira, candomblé and samba de roda were created.
• Cascading waterfalls: At least one almost of every Stage, some are higher than others but all of them are amazing.
• Towering flat-topped plateaus (chapada) with winding trails and breathtaking views.
• Narrow canyons leading to waterfalls.
• Caves and grottos, often with ancient rock art.
• Blue pools.
• Diverse and unique biomes: From dry caatinga, Campa Rupuestre low vegetation on top of the plateau and the light rainforest of Mata Atlantica.
• Miles of trails and dust roads.
• Indigenous communities: Dotted along the course where you will see local life in rural Brazil and the kindness of the people living there.
• River beaches.
• Igatú: the Machu Picchu of Brazil.
Climate and Weather
• August is the end of winter in Brazil.
• You can expect pleasant, dry, and sunny weather, with lower humidity, cool nights, and very little rain.
• Daytime temperatures: 30C / 85F.
• Narrow canyons leading to waterfalls.
• Lows at night: 10C / 50F.
Equipment
• Self-supported: Competitors carry their own food, clothing, and mandatory equipment for the week.

Getting to Salvador
There are two options to get to Salvador:
1. There are direct flights to Salvador from Portugal, Spain, France, Panama and Argentina.
2. Connect through Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo.

Entry Fee
• The entry fee is US$4,300.
• A deposit of US$1,500 is paid to secure your place.
• The balance is due 120 days before the race – by 17 April 2027
• The entry fee increases by US$300 after 17 April 2027.
• You can also pay in installments, for example 10 x monthly installments of US$430.
