In 2023, Beth Whitman achieved the remarkable feat of completing the 4 Deserts Grand Slam Plus. Her expedition to Antarctica for The Last Desert was so inspiring that she returned the following year with a group of ten. She will once again join the M/V Plancius with a group in 2026. To complement the journey south, Beth has curated a unique tour designed for travellers who want an unforgettable introduction to Patagonia.

A TASTE OF PATAGONIA

This small-group adventure to Patagonia (just 8 travellers!) takes you deep into two of Argentina's most breathtaking regions — the jagged, wind-sculpted peaks around El Chaltén and the glacier-carved landscapes surrounding El Calafate. It ends in the charming, chocolate-filled mountain town of Bariloche.

The hiking is the heart of this trip. You'll tackle the legendary route to Laguna de los Tres, widely regarded as one of the finest hikes in southern Patagonia, with front-row views of Mount Fitz Roy reflected in glacial blue water. A gentle morning walk leads to the Chorrillo del Salto waterfall through forested trails with sweeping valley views.

The real highlight though is Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the world's few advancing glaciers. Here, you'll strap on crampons and walk across the ice, watching massive chunks calve into the lake below. In Bariloche, a cable car whisks you nearly 7,000 feet up Mount Otto, followed by a peaceful wander through ancient lenga forests above Nahuel Huapi Lake.

This is an adventure trip with a relaxed rhythm. Days are full and the scenery is extraordinary, but evenings are yours — whether that means a great local restaurant, a scoop of Patagonian ice cream or simply collapsing happily into bed after miles of trail. This tour is hosted by WanderTours with Beth Whitman as your trip leader, while local guides accompany the group throughout the trip.
