Well it’s all done!  Had final day of racing yesterday and a good one in that everyone was running well, with no major problems .All the guys are stoked to be finished and all the Grand Slam competitors made it.

My feet are back to normal and now we are all thinking what next, I’m trying to get the lads motivated for more, but I think they have to check with their families first.

We got lucky with the weather on the last day, it calmed down just enough to get everyone to shore safely, but man was it windy on the course, a mixture of hard packed crusted ice that you occasionally broke through to loose snow but it would have been really disappointing if we couldn’t have raced yesterday.

As soon as we finished and were back on boat it was straight to the bar for a beer. The Scopolamine patch is working but stuffing up my near vision so am having to type this quite a distance from the screen.

The food on board has been amazing and this may be the first race I come back fatter from.

The beard is still on as I can’t find any hair clippers on board.

Today everyone is just trying to kill time, at least the Drake is quieter at the moment but we are trying to out run a storm coming through so it may turn to ass soon.

Well I am now officially the first kiwi to complete the Grand Slam and already looking for something bigger. Not looking forward to going back to work as am pretty sure I will get loaded up with shifts. Looking forward to a surf when I get back.

End of race function is tomorrow night, once we are safely in quiet waters, looking forward to seeing the photo slideshow.

Thanks again to everyone that emailed or blogged in, I’m unable to reply to individual messages but have definitely read them all, don’t know final placing but pretty sure we were the second team in

Cheers Inia

Well finally got time to do a blog as too busy yesterday and unfortunately the only reason we have a chance today is because they have some true Antarctic weather, the captain reckons its as rough as winter, and we have been confined to the boat and a bit sea sick with waves breaking over the bow. That means only one day of running left if lucky tomorrow.

Yesterday was a perfect course for me with uphill switch backs set up followed by a loop and down hill section, was feeling strong and keen to smash it but the lads were feeling it a bit and Rob got a bit too cold and took a bit of sorting, but that’s team running and why we teamed up to keep an eye on each other.

The team is in good spirits and a bit gutted not to be out running as little chance of passing the leading team now but at least we are all hopefully gonna finish. I may have to come back and give a race like this another go, or maybe try something at the north pole as would really like to do a more A to B style race over larger distances as we didn’t get much distance in down here, but you can’t control the weather.  Will decide after some planning and sponsorship.

The race has just urged me on to do something else, find a new challenge. It’s been good to disconnect, but the sailing at the moment is making  me really sick, so will keep this short, cheers guys to everyone who has been following us

Cheers Inia

Congrats to you on finishing this epic journey today! Rob has joked about giving you tips on meeting the perfect woman. I'd say that having this on your resume will definitely work in your favor! ( Just wear your new jacket to the bars.) I love that you worked as a team through this last stage. Seems like the perfect end to a magnificent year! -Kristi Trepa (Rob's wife)

Kia ora Inia, You should be finished by the time you read this. So good on you. Oh and the Kiwis, Moaris and ABS all won last night. What a great time for NZ sport. Well done dude.

New challenges... hmm.. Vinson Massif and the South Pole? I'm sure it would be easier than Aconcagua. Or if you want to stick to running... the Yukon Arctic Ultra might be up your alley. It's been on my bucket list for years! No ocean-going boat involved, which is probably a real plus right now!

Hey Guys

I know the blogs are sometimes delayed - having a hard yet awesome time. Penguins are so funny and have individual character. The boat travelled 14 hours overnight for a new race location and when we got close they discovered that the passage was still blocked by ice-bergs, and we had to abandon it and head to a new location.

The course today was only 2.2km but was on the side of a hill with knee deep snow that took about 35-45 mins per lap! Due to the deep snow and incline, it was a very hard and repetitive day of running. The format is with total distance counted not time - yesterday we missed the cut off for the final lap and hence got thrashed by 9km or so and today we finished as the first team in but end up with the same distance as everyone else who finished behind us, go figure.

Gear management is a huge aspect as you get IRB to shore then have to get out of gumboots and lifevests etc and into your race kit, and the temperature can vary heaps during the day with wind chill, then sun burn and its easy to overheat then freeze later when the temperature drops. The lads did a bit better today Brett

Hey guys

First day over and it was quite hard. We landed on deception island, where we parked the boat in the middle of a volcano crater, which used to be an old whaling station, with some of the old buildings and boats still there.

They set up a circuit of about 7.5km and we did laps while the weather held.

Brett had a bit of a rough time today with knee pain and struggled a bit, but that

Hey guys,

Still in the Drake Passage and the boat is swaying even more as the captain has had to change course, hopefully it will be a lot calmer about midnight when we hit the Antarctic peninsula.

Spotted our first iceberg and we are officially in Antarctic waters, seen some birds but no penguins or whales yet.

The food is awesome if you feel up to eating, I slept through lunch today as was tired and feeling a bit rough, didn
