Only a quick blog as there has been a nightmare with satellite connection here....I eventually got all your messages...only had a quick look as it was from a laptop in the space of 5mins! So many i would need at least an hour to sift through them and I really need my sleep as we run 93km tomorrow!! Oh my god....is that really possible?!?! Let"s hope so....thanks again for the kind emails...really pushes me on knowing everyone is behind me...and i need all the pushing I can get..starting to run out of steam a touch...but so close I can smell it...or is that just my body odour!! Look forward to seeing you all soon...love to ya xxx...and now here is race leader...Mr Andrew Murray

OK for all you after Andy's blog look below....he is close behind me...but I think I should keep first place!

Now, today was a bit better than yesterday...blisters are building, but taking care of my feet as well as possible in a pair of Mickey Mouse socks! Going has been slow...but then I'm not trying to break any records here...just get through in one piece that will be difficult enough....Going to get some chow down me and have (another) early night for another big day tomorrow...

First, Don't leave messages on the blog...I can't see them!!! Go to email competitor...and send me a message as they print them out in the eveing and I would love some messages!!

OK just finished day 2 and my god I'm in a world of pain.....my trip started with Air France going on strike meaning I didn't arrive in Cairo until Friday morning with no sleep and even better no luggage!!! All my equipment was in the bag...food, clothing...everything apart from my shoes..which was a touch of luck...So friday with no sleep had to go to Cairo market and get everything...unfortunately I would have been better going to Asda...my socks are made of camel hair I think...so blisters are building already...happy days!

Luckily, everyone here has come on board and donated what they can....so not too drastic...but 9 months planning down the drain..thanks Air France!!

First day wasn't too shocking, was able to finish in the top 30 (28)...today was a different matter...much hotter...much slower...think I sneaked in about 40th....but wth camel hair socks and a sleeping bag the size of the pyrmaids (biggest ever seen by racing the planet!). I look like a real gypsie...everything thrown together....and I wanted to look fly in the pics!!!

So tomorrow is another day and will take it steady..the big 50miler is just round the corner so want to try and keep in as best condition as possible...

Hopefully, the satellite will stay up so can keep you posted...but please get those messages...i have the least in my tent!! Thanks mum for my one and only! And keep your eye out for my luggage...would be nice to have some clean clothes at the end of the week!

Love to you all....keep the positive energy coming my way! xxx

James All the best man. Make us all proud. You know that if I had a lot of spare time, extra cash, was stronger physically and mentally, was certified clinically insane and was forced at gunpoint - I would do it with you. I look forward to the updates, which I will pass on to people out here in Japan who are also behind you

31 July 2007 01:58 am (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

It's all really starting to sink in now..sink into the pit of my stomach each time I think about what I've let myself in for! Surely my first race should have been at the local track with a sweet tip from the stables about that rank outsider that's got to win..instead I've swapped it for 250km through the Sahara in sweltering heat! All in the name of Charity I guess!

Must admit looking at other competitors (don't like this word..suggests an air of competition..I was hoping someone might carry me most of the way!) I get inspired and motivated to get myself into the best shape of my life, well cutting out the full english fry ups done that without any need for training!

I've also been brought to tears on numerous occasions by the support I have received from friends and family and the guys at Racing The Planet, everyone coming on board to help with fundraising and donations for my charities and words of wisdom and advice....although the clever cheats are well thought out and full proof, I promise there will be no hitching rides on camels or any other passing forms of transport.

The next 3 months will see an increased level of training and even participation in 3 upcoming marathons...hopefully will finish them before the end of October...

I must admit one of the most exciting thing will be to meet the rest of the runners and hearing their stories (ones that I can pass off as my own with my friends as I'm not very interesting at a dinner party!).

What will the race be like...I've no idea but I can't wait to find out!
