Great inspirational story. A man who has pulled himself out of the abyss into the land of the living. Look forward to reading the rest.

Hi Billy, glad you are blogging and doing the Sahara! Not as many hills in the Sahara -- only dunes. Keep in touch. Mary

The sunday morning of the nottingham marathon found me up and smoking a ciggie at 3am. I had'nt slept much during the nite i was far to excited. My plan was to set off at 4am with my partner Bridget from Whitby and stop of somewhere on the M1 for sum brekkie. We pulled in to sum services near Sheffield but i just had a coffee and another cig, Bridget urged me to try and eat something but i wasnt hungry i did however eat sum salted peanuts i'd been told they where good for energy. My training on the run up to this marathon was the total focus of my being, never in my life did i want to complete something so bad and receive a medal for it afterward's. The label loser had been stuck on me to long it was time to rip it off. I wud rise early every morning and set about running the hills around the outskirts of whitby.

Because of my drink/drug bingeing lifestyle spanning 38yrs (to date i am 56yrs) 3 years ago after another bender i was rushed to the cardiac unit of my local hospital and after the doctors spent an age injecting fluid into my stomach in order to thin my blood the doctor informed me that "we nearly lost you in their billy you could have died". I walked out of that hospital praying to god to help me and ran into another life, i say ran cos since that date ive been running constantly and it has saved my life. I am currently writing my life story to be published under the title "Dead Man Running" quite apt dont you think?
