Namib Race (2009) blog posts from CHARLA HEIMER

I have just spent a couple hours on the floor with my mother trying to figure out how to fit everything in my backpack.  There just isn't enough room.  Clearly this is why no one brings a change of clothes.

I am making one last trip to REI as soon as it opens to get a bigger backpack - ugh.

Sleeping with chickens sounds like a lot of fun. You are sure going to miss that 5 Star Resort once you leave. I admire you for doing this but hope you get it out of your system. One adventure like this in a lifetime should be enough to talk about forever. Try something else. As miserable as that place sounds, I wish I was there with you. Love, Dad

I am so excited every day to read the blog posts and look at the photos. The landscape is so beautiful yet surreal at the same time. It must be so amazing being there and seeing the changes in the sand under your feet. Hope your hands are healing. Love you, Chan & Mark

Char: I hope you are fast asleep in your tent by now and recharging your battery for tomorrows run. I have not been able to stop thinking about you and imagining how beautiful the dessert must be during sunset. I hope you are enjoying meeting so many people from different nations that share your passion. I am sure there is so much to learn from everyone that is participating in this event. I am waiting to hear all the stories anxiously. I love you, Chan

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.” Paulo Coelho I hope you enjoy every minute of this journey. I love you.

Charla, don\'t worry about your pack, use the one you have trained with. Take all your stuff with you to the Sahara and get some advise about what you don\'t need, I bet you have too much stuff. You\'re so lucky living in San Diego, stayed there last year at the four seasons hotel great place. Good luck in the race Tony
