Well done, Kevin. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control. You absolutely made the right decision. The medical doctors have your best interest in mind at all times and will always err on the side of caution. Well done during the week. Get some rest and enjoy the well deserved food, shower and rest, champ! Mary

Kevin you have completed So much of this gruelling challenge. Since you were captivated by the video in the spinning class back in December which inspired you, you have been so dedicated to this. You have learned so much about yourself in the short four months to this event. You body has supported you through your dream, it was the blistering heat that zapped your electrolytes in the end. You kept to your promise that you made to the family..Safety first. I know you have enjoyed the experience and we are incredibly proud of you. I will chill the Duvel six pack and make your chocolate cheesecake...no one deserves it more than you. Bravo Kevin.xx

Hi Kevin, We can only dream of being as tough a competitor as you are. Well done for taking on this incredible challenge and acquitting yourself beautifully, with strength and grace. We're glad you were well attended to medically. A sufferfest like 4Deserts should never be life threatening. You need to live long and tell the tale for many, many years. Congratulations! Now take it easy, friend. ~ With utmost respect and warmest wishes, Nicki and Terry

Dear friends and family

Yesterday was a another tough old day. I made an error by going off too fast and the temperature rose to over 40 degrees by 9.30am. By checkpoint 5 (44 kms) I was a bit dehydrated and stayed to recover. I completed the final 40 kms with Samantha and we trekked through the night, finally arriving back at camp at 3am.The terrain was very rough today, my feet are battered! The night sky was spectacular and I could almost touch the stars. I couldn

It was so good to read your blog Kevin. You should be so proud at your achievements. It was about the journey and not the time it took. You made good decisions to rest, rehydrate and trek at nighttime when it was cooler and great that you had the opportunity to see a fantastic star laden sky and were able to trek with a fellow participant. By the time you read this the end of the adventure will be in sight and you’ll marvel at how you have triumphed in adversity ! Lots of love xxxxxxxB + M

Remember it takes as long as it takes...you just need to do this safely and listen to your body. Sounds like you are and we're very grateful for that. I'm reassured by the fact today is another day and you will focus on the long March and use your team mates as a crutch if necessary or you for them. Wishing that you hit more comforatble terrian today and that the sticks come out to ease you through some tough patches. I've read you've started earlier so some cooler temperatures to gets some kms under your belt. Keep focused, keep going and be proud with every step you take. You command total respect for this xx

Glad the temperatures are not brutal and wind is helping from behind. Website photos look amazing so getting a real sense of the terrain and comradship in camp...helped with a wonderful full moon last night. Be grateful for your body for gruelling distance and getting back to camp safe. Another milestone ticked. Go Forrest!!

Hey dad! Really hope you're getting all my emails! Just tried sending one but something went wrong so i think its safer to add a comment on here. Myself and the wigan brownseys have been eagerly refreshing the site to see your progress! We're SO proud of you. You're incredible and we counted that you finished 40th out of 103? is this right? :o Anyways, i'm beaming with pride and can't wait to hear your update. Hope you didnt have to fight off many snakes / camels. You missed an insane grand prix. Red bulls crashed out, bottas got a puncture, vettel messed up pit times. 1)HAM 2)RAI 3)PEREZ! Miss you so much. Get up and do it all again tomorrow, we have all the faith in you! Emi xxx

Just wanted to wish you all the best bud - I am not completely sure how you got there but I guess, you are there now, so you might as well put one foot in front the other and see where it takes you. I am sure you will follow the leader. Enjoy the solitude and the shared experience with all your fellow competitors. You are an inspiration to everyone at home and all I can say is that I look forward to hearing all about it. Bon voyage mon ami.

On April 1st 2018 I ran my first ever marathon. I chose the location of the first Olympic marathon starting at Amaliada and finishing at the Olympic stadium in Ancient Olympia. The first 21 kms were relatively comfortable; temperature was warm but not oppressive and hydration was good. At 25km I started to struggle and felt unwell. At this time the temperature had risen to c. 25 degrees and I realised I'd run too fast in the first half. For the next 3 or 4 kms I ran part and walked part, cooling myself down and re-hydrating. A fellow runner (Don from Canada) helped me enormously and stayed with me during this time. I hope I get chance to thank you one day mate! After 30kms I felt good again and ran the last 12 kms without too much stress. I made it but learnt some lessons that will be important in the desert.

I was particularly pleased the next day as I ran 10kms on the beach at Katokolo without any pain and seemed to recover quickly. Now for the big push with full back pack!
