The last 10km was of course more challenging than expected and almost felt like a summary of all we experienced over the week. A bit of beach, a bit of dune, a bit of soft sand, some mud, some salty crusty fun, some strong winds, a bit of heat and the wonderful finish line with all the cheering faces at the end.

I love my medal and I loved the week. It has been wonderful. I can safely say I enjoyed

Dune Day was amazing!! We started out along a rocky river bed and then made our way over a few dunnettes to get ready for The Big One. The first 20km were quite runnable so I turned on my ipod and did my Singapore shuffle to get me through.

Hi Zeana! Sorry not to send anything till now, have been having to fend for myself don’t you know..! That’s quite hard - not as hard as running in sand I guess. Anyway, it looks like you are loving it out there, and you must have finished the long day, congratulations! Enjoy the rest of it, is it al downhill from there, or more ups. Paul

Day 2 done!! Today was really great and so so much better than yesterday!! The sun was out early as we crossed a bridge with lots of greenery around because of the recent rain. As we made our way towards CP 1 we were in a valley with reddish dunes on either side, as we reached CP2 we got to climb up

Go girl! Remember “pain is temporary glory lasts for ever”, “If you aren’t going all the way, why go at all?”and my favourite go to one .... “nothing great is easy”. However, I’ve also found a quote on a more predictable topic: “In awe, I watched the waxing moon ride across the zenith of the heavens like an ambered chariot towards the ebony void of infinite space wherein the tethered belts of Jupiter and Mars hang, for ever festooned in their orbital majesty. And as I looked at all this I thought... I must put a roof on this toilet.”

If you really feel the need to "train", go out for a nice long walk and soak up the day! The memory of a nice long walk, no stress, no sweat, sun and giggles will keep you happy through a couple of the tough moments on the race. Also, napping is quality training time!!!!! Cheers

After spending a blissful 3 weeks running around in the humidity free Washington State with my sister, brother in law and their very cute American fox hound Willy Boy to motivate me, getting back into the hot and humid training in Singapore was like a slap in the face and a punch in the stomach

Hey Zeana! Nice post. I appreciate the tips. My training routine is remarkably similar to yours, although I expect I'm slogging along much more slowly than you. I do have the advantage of having a bona fide desert (Mojave) to run in. It's just two hours from home. I have a question: poles or no poles? I'd like to avoid the extra weight, but I'll kick myself if I need them and they're not there. Thanks and see you in April.
