Well the sandpit is going well again today. I even got in a bit earlier - but they are still very long days. The heat of the afternoon sun is really fierce and today I got burnt -but only on my left side. Well my blisters are bigger and have given birth to others - fantastic not, so my feet are all taped up.. am lucky though as many have had to pull out so I just pace myself. Well tomorrow is going to be abitch - it is the long stage . I am feeling well in myself but the body is taking a bit of a hammering, my knee is sore today...the sand is difficult to even walk in fast and everyone is commenting about it. Today we had some awesome sand dunes - running down them was awesome . The rock formations are just out of this world and at any given time you could swear you are on mars or the moon. The sand varies incredibly and today we saw heaps of shells an fossils It is very hard not to stop an pick them up. the sunsets and sunrises are spectacular, though I have not taken many photo's as I am focusing on getting to the end of the day and recovering - getting ready for the next one. We have early starts and I go to bed early, but always manage to wake up and go moonwalking at some ungodly hour. Well this entire experience has blown my mind, the people, the place, the commrdaerie, the blisters!!!. How amazing it is to sit next to someone else that you dont really know having a desert dump - things are cut right down to the basics of life and this is one of the experiences that I wanted out of the race. You get to learn what is really important in life, and value those things. . So its good nite from me - only 95 odd kms tomorrow- I am sure I will think of all of you at some stage, lotsa luv from the sandpit xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well the sandpit was a bit nicer to play in today!!! Got in a bit earlier than yesterday which was awesome. The scenery here is just amazing - I feel like I am on the moon sometimes. It is still bloody hot out there, especially in the afternoons - this does sap the energy out of me so i just ave to pace myself, hydrate, eat - and most of all enjoy this experience .The sand in camp tonite is horrendous - does nothing for my already manky hair - but i dont do this to look pretty... I have bloody blisters too - day 2 and I have used all of my blister kit up and it can only get worse so that is a bit of a worry. I am feeling good though in my body and my head so it is just a matter of keeping my shit together for the next day, and the next, and then the biggy.. Cheers Geoff and Cory for your email - it means heaps. I am learning many tings, not only about myself but others around me, the camp is a positive suportive place which makes this journey even more amazing. Cam, the ipod keeps me rocking and I am restricting the use of it to the last stage of the day to make it last - so thanx buddy for all of those songs. I need to go get ready for tomorrows "sandpit" so nite from the Sahara. PS some dude in the cyber tent just said that the temp yesterday was actually 48!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................

Sorry to hear about the blisters..... and I thought I was your little blister. Guess they must be an occupational hazard when you insist on playing in the sandpit for hours every day. Pity you didn't take a tractor with you!
We are loving reading your blog and seeing the photos. Love ya too much xx

Gidday out there, well day one under my belt - shit it was harder than I thought but took my time - enjoyed the shade where there was some. Thereare so manyawesome people here - everyone is supportive and helpful.Very hot today - someone said 42 - and windy - the wind was a pain initially but then it washelpful to cool me. As we are running - or in my case walking - around a lake it has been high humidity as well.We started at 0700 and i finiashed at 1600ish. Some people are still coming in....
It is awesome to finish the day - but even more so when they greet you with the drum beating and everyone clapping and cheering you on. Whilst is is bloody hard work it is very humbling to be here and experiene this - besides head hunters goes good in the desert on the ipod.....Tomorrow is going to be harder - crap!!!!! Anyway love to you all out there - cheers to those that have sent emails it is fantastic to read them. Special note for you cam - I love you heaps honey and think of you often - hope you are helping Dad heaps xxxx. Hopefully all will go ok tomorrow.............cheers for now megs

Hi Megan,
you don't know me but I've fought through a couple of these races and know your pain, you're doing really well, keep it slow and take the rests where you can, most important listen to your body. It sounds crazy but you'll look back and love it, you'll sign up for another one before you know it. Anyway, key for recovery is get your feet in the air for at least an hour in camp when you get in, you'll appreciate it on day 4. go well,
cheers Hamish

Well my first ever blog, and i cant think of a better time to start.
I am about to put my feet where my mouth is and tackle the biggest challenge of my life so far,( well aside from being a mother!!).
I could talk about training - but thats not really happening at the moment, i could talk about gear - yet another reminder of the financial demerits i am earning, or I could talk about me - but thats not really me.
What i would like to acknowledge is that it is not all about me.... I am looking forward to the challenge ahead, the learning from within, and all of those bits but it is also a challenge for our families.
My son and husband put up with hours of training, $$$$$$$ being drained form the bank, continuous planning and preperation...then I bugger of and leave them behind just to fulfill my dreams....................
........I am not the only one with the committments of being a mother, a wife, and fulltime work....etc,etc, So heres a big heads up and "cheers" for the support of our families and those that we leave behind to manage the fort.....
Until then
Megs
