We left the hotel at 1pm this afternoon, after completing our kit checks. Everything went well on the check, thanks to my OCD spreadsheet with all the details of my kit in it. Sometimes it pays to be anal retentive.

It's 6.30am in Swakopmund, Namibia. I've been awake for an hour. I can't believe that today is actually the day that I head into the desert to do this thing.

This is it. The day has finally come when I fly to Africa (for the first time in 26 years!!). 2.5 years after Stephen McCullough got me into trail running, I head off on my biggest adventure to date. My first 250km stage race - The Sahara Race Namibia. 6 stages over 7 days carrying a 10kg backpack.
Am I mad? Quite probably. Am I nervous? Damn right. Am I excited? Stupidly so :-)
1,782km of training runs taking 290 hours over the last 7 months since I decided to enter this......"only" 250km more to go.
I'll be offline (no email, WhatsApp, Facebook) until I get back to civilsation on Sunday 7th May. See you all soon

I've just had the dullest Easter weekend ever. Back-to-back-to-back training days of 7.5 hours each. 43km daily with a full backpack - no no booze!!!! Why oh why am I doing this?? I blame the big Irishman who got me into ultras in 2015 - at least he will be in the desert with me so I can shout at him the whole way along.
It is slightly petrifying that in 13 days I will be in the middle of a desert in Africa, embarking on the silliest thing I have ever done. Petrifying but exciting and thrilling at the same time. 250km in 7 days carrying everything I need with me. Even after the last three days, this sounds insane.......but I can't wait.
Most of the kit is bought. One more training session to go, with several massages coming up. I'll be packing, repakcing, checking and rechecking countless times between now and next Thursday night when I get on the plane to SA. If I'm not ready now (which I'm not), I never will be
Again.....I blame the big Irishman :-)
