After 160km of running they have to throw in a 77km stage, it is not only the longest stage but also the toughest stage as we will be running up and down mountains of sand dunes and SOFT SAND again

Duncan, Thanks for cheering up yourself to pass through the darkness as It is cheering us up too. I like " the staff came out of nowhere" to remind your of dangerous situation. Yes, hope all of us always get a "staff" like friend to remind us " stay away from danger". Your story keeps blessing me. Save trip, our Hero The

Amazing work buddy. Very impressed, especially having the energy and heart to write the blog after such exhausting runs. Great stuff. You should add a bit more to your last section. Hope and skip to the finishing line, it would throw the others off their flow for sure. Enjoy

Wow! What an experience?!?! You don't know how many time I have checked you blog in the last two days, waiting to hear from you! I kept checking the breaking news, the results, pics. I did find a pic of you jumping and I saw the dunes. I also saw a helicopter. I don't know what kept you going, when there is a helicopter! :-) super well done. I am very proud of you. So proud that I change me last name to Chau. Haha. Can't wait to speak to you. Yes, it my first Mother's Day and is Matthew's 7-month tmr. He has grown. He can stand now! He is a strong boy like daddy! See you soon and enjoy the last 10km and the joy of reaching the finish line!!!!! I will give you a big hug after your shower! :-) love you.

Bro, keep it up!!! You are almost there!!! Already so amazed how you can get to this stage, so I am confident you will make it to the end!! We took GG for hiking and told Gavin this is Level 1, then he asked what's the highest level. I told him is Level 10 and only his Godfather can do that!!! He is already proud of you!!! Way to go!!! ADD OIL!

Hey Duncan!! Mate, you are smashing it. By the time you read this the Long March will be conquered and you will be a short hop, skip & a jump from bagging Namibia ... what an awesome feat. "About the scenery, well there is nothing to see here, nothing. Not even a bug…… so barren here" .... where else would you want to be right now? This is the reason you are out there my friend; to test your limits, to realise your potential and to feel fully alive!! Proud of you Mate. Cheers Brett

As mentioned already, really enjoying reading your blog each day to see what the desert had in store for you. Do you reckon you could do this for a couple more weeks? Sounds like it was a tough one today, getting kicked when you are down, little like how I always used to beat you at Tekken :-) But as always you persevere to come out as the master at what you do. Good luck with the looong march. Look forward to reading your next instalment.

It's very refreshing to read your blog. To be honest I have never followed a runner's blog and I am not a runner either. Thanks to Sam for reminding us to on FB. Your blog reminds me of how situation can be tough at times but with faith and beliefs & a never give up mind set - one will get through it. A great learning for me ! Thanks!!! Keep going and good luck with the long race tomorrow.

Logging on to your blog is now a new daily habit. Poking fun at you has been a life long habit. But really interested how putting yourself through hardship has enlightened your perspective... I now know to expect much sand, much heat and random Chinese guys in leggings running round when I am next lost in the desert. Good on you for pulling through the pain though - reminds me of a quote from your favourite movie. "Pain is your friend, your ally, it will tell you when you are seriously injured, it will keep you awake and angry, and remind you to finish the job and get the hell home. But you know the best thing about pain? It lets you know you're not dead yet!"

Yi-Chen Chiang

Posted On: 05 May 2016 03:29 am

well done! good luck with the long march and keep pushing through to the finishing line. SADLY, you are now one step further from the amazing nature, tranquility, and the PAIN but good news is that you are getting closer to cold beer, proper shower and meal (everything you need in the civilization!) GOGOGO!

Hi - well done for pushing through the pain! Hope the long march goes well and with the same mental strength!!! Almost there!

Only one set of clothes? Sounds like your first year at uni all over again. Looking forward to seeing your pic/vids, hope you're living up to the Chinese stereotype by carrying a selfie stick. By the way, you know you can hire cars in Namibia?

Looks like you are cooking up some good adventures that you can be proud of to tell your grandkids. The best thing I have learned from this tough challenge is how funny Sam's one-liners are! Ah my cocktail has just arrived - back to the pool.

can you push a bit more? you are ranking 71 now. try top 50!? =) i think you can do it, esp at the long march. i agree. I know the run isn't the most difficult part, but no shower and sweaty clothes!!! yikes! i didn't find a jumping pic of you at stage 3. was a bit disappointed, but glad to hear that you are still doing well. stay positive and enjoy. bring back some stars for matthew and I. btw, can't access your blog in china. I have to borrow my colleagues vpn. so I may not be able to msg you tmr. good luck with the long march in advance. run run run! love you, sam

Duncan Brother, good luck. Really couldn't imagine how you could "run" on the sand. Your Sahara journey is inspiring as you demonstrate what exactly 君子自強不息" means I am still a fat man but in the future if i become healthy again, I am sure you inspire me. Keep running. Hey Duncan! Your trek in the desert makes my trek around ghetto places in China sound like a walk in the park! How you focus on the small wins is always inspirational to me, and yeah when you're surviving in a desert you really notice the simpler things in life yeah?! Your strength and persistence never fails to amaze me. Honestly I always wish I could do the stuff that you do (the pain you put yourself through, haha!), and now I can live it through you, its so great! I can somehow imagine how rewarding the experience can be. Keep it up strong!!!!

DUNCAN keep it up. Will share your journal with kids so they see what perseverance discipline and persstence mean, and how doing all these, in desert, one can still not forget to smile or dance once in a while. Sending you hugs and keeping you in our prayers for nature to be on your side, and all the runners! Xoxo
