I run for a cause

I turned 40 in April 2014 in Singapore.

By the end of the summer, i registered to the 4Deserts (Sahara) Race - Jordan 2015, a 250km self-sufficient race in the Desert, that will take place in March 2015, and I started training in Singapore heat. In mid-October, after 72 hours of very strong arrhythmia, I was "strongly recommended" to proceed to the ablation of my Wolf-Parkinson-White, a congenital heart condition. On November 5th, exactly 4 months before the Jordan Desert briefing, I did undergo this heart surgery (an internal procedure under local anaesthesia); out of hospital 18 hours later and running again 10 days after.

In a couple of days, I went from a big down, imagining that i would have to give up sport and in particular my Desert objective, to a big up, feeling stronger, relieved and with an additional objective : to leverage on my somehow lucky experience and support less fortunate kids with much severe heart conditions.

Here i am now with one ambition for this race : to save one life and influence many more

* To save one life requires 12,000 Euros donation to mecenat-chirurgie-cardiaque, a NGO that brings kids with severe heart condition to France so that they can undergo life-saving operations that are not possible / available in their country of origin. 12,000 Euros is the average cost for the transport, the operation and the two-month stay in France (for follow-up)

* To influence people, is about living your dream, inspiring others, raising awareness and realize how lucky most of us are

Every donation counts towards this goal.

Donations are done via my Alvarum page (http://www.alvarum.com/laurentbesson) which allows secured payments; 100% of your donation is transfered to Mecenat-Chirurgie-Cardiaque; if you are paying taxes in France, it allows you to benefit from a reduction of your income tax liability, amounting to 75% of your donation.
