Hi all,

Im quite new to this. Stumbled upon this race a month back, and was thinking, why not do something crazy. This seems crazy enough.

I have not booked my place yet, still contemplating.
I'm working offshore 75% of the time, most form of exercises done are on treadmill.. like a hamster....

Am not sure if this is entirely do-able.. I was quite active in my college years, I've raced some day stage adventure races and a couple 3 days adventure races, but nothing ultra, have not even done any marathons yet, only halves.. but have been moderately active since started working 3 years ago.

Im planning to do this alone, so far.. any individual racers out there?

Any tips and training plans would be greatly appreciated!

Rgds,
Ann

Hi Rob New to this myself. I signed up because my mate John did and I've been training with him. You mention using the pack 8-1O sessions pre race.....? Should I be training without then? I've got used to carrying it now! I'm a novice, but love the long treks/plods in Sai Kung, but wonder if I am training enough? cheers

In response to Josh's comment regarding the kit list and travel information -- this is information that is included in a competitor-only area of the website that is available to registered competitors. This area contains a lot of useful information, including the official event meeting instructions, information on required gear and medical articles written by RacingThePlanet doctors. A preliminary equipment list can also be downloaded from the Sahara Race 2011 website on the "Equipment" page which can be seen under the "Race Details" tab. Flights are determined by each competitor. We only require that competitors arrive at the host hotel in Cairo sometime on Friday, 30 September. The event ends on Saturday, 8 October, and most competitors will leave the following day, which is Sunday, 9 October. A more complete itinerary can also be viewed on the Sahara Race website. I hope this helps! Cheers, Alina

Hi Anniza, Job sounds amazing - always wondered what it would be like to work off-shore! To answer your question: Yes, you can do it with the right preparation and planning - you have time and a treadmill ;-) If you've done some multi-day adventure races, then you have the experience of going hard one day and then recovering and doing it all again the next - that counts for alot - that's exactly what you do in these races. However you'd need to try and get your longest run/walk up to around 35km pre-race. With the treadmill and time ashore, you should be able to still do this and by running 4 days per week plus a couple of cross training days and one rest. Plenty of ultra-running and marathon training programmes you can base your training around. Then just add in weight and a pack for 8-10 sessions pre-race. Good luck! Rob
