Hello everyone, I crossed the finish line safely this morning around 3am. So, in a way, it’s over and done now and we are resting at the last camp site after a very long day we had. The last group to cross the finish line spent a total of 27 hours on the course which certainly very tough on both mind and body. One of my tent mate, Ryan Hill, whom have had bad injury for the past few days also among them and, I got to admit, he is really outstanding to be able to endure through the entire race which you will see in the record later on the amount of people whom didn’t finish the race. Just think of it as you are being burn out there under the hot sun, tired, unwell, got miles to go on and then just one word will easily take you out of misery. It takes more than just determination to say no to that kind of offer. So, at the finish line, all competitors gather up and giving a warm welcome befitting heroes and closing the event beautifully.
During this event, I’ve had a privilege to share tent and cross path with outstanding group of people, and it certainly become a very valuable experience and memory for me. I can’t really say how it will change my life just yet but I can already feel a new found confident growing in me and also qualities that I would aspire to attain.
Tomorrow we will all run toward publicity finish line at pyramid of Giza as an official closing follow by medal presentation but, since the time will not be accounted into the record, I plan to take it easy and enjoy the scenery then head to hotel for cleanup and a good long rest.
For anyone whom coming across this blog and wanted to know more about this race and how to prepare for it, feel free to drop me a line and I will be more than happy to share what I learn. I will also share my equipment list for the one that work when I got home as well.
Anyway, after long journey and blog entries, I, an official finisher of Sahara Race 2011, signing off…..
Thank you very much for your continuous support and follow me through the event.

Would love to know more specifics about the race and your equipment list. My goal is to try and do the race in 2012. I could list my questions here but they would take up to much space. Would prefer on sending them in an email. Congratulations on the finish and a great time.

Hello everyone, another day has just ended and I did tried to push as planned. Unfortunately, the last two sections got wind blew very strong against me (imagine breathing hot air mix with sand). Anyway, I'm still satisfy with the overall time and it will now come down to the last 100km which will be split in two half for a quick meal in between. So, based on how I perform thus far, I will most likely finish around midnight or beyond that. Although it is guarantee to be tough but everyone in the camp are in very high spirit since it is just one more to go.
I will try to pace myself as usual and give it my all to get to the finish line (also safely of course). The next blog will be when this is over and done which I really look forward to.
Again, thanks for all your continuous support and I will do my best to not disappoint you.

Just one more last lap! Go go go...

04 October 2011 02:19 am (GMT+07:00) Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta

Hello everyone, stage 3 is now completed and I'm still very much alive. Today was quite tough with large amount of sand dunes and soft sand. The elevation was around 64 meters and climbing up that high on soft sand was really challenging. On the way toward last check point, I miscalculate a bit and had to depends on just sheer willpower to get there. But after that, with a bit of rest, I was fine and got through last section slightly later than yesterday which I think is still within acceptable range.
Tomorrow course is expected to be moderate and I will try to push a little harder to move up the rank but, of course, the most important thing is to preserve for 100km in the last stage.
Although I got bit of blisters here and there now but the medical team here is patching me up wonderfully. So, with a heavy meal and good night rest, I expect to have another fun day in the field. Stay tune and keep up with your support.

I must admit to having been a bit overawed by your perseverance condition. Push up a little bit more and you will get there... perhaps now it's all about strategy to push for the last 100km. Let me leave you with the quote from the world's olympic 400m run champion, Eric Liddell "The secret of my success over the 400m is that I run the first 200m as fast as I can. Then, for the second 200m, with God's help I run faster."... Run with all your might

Good evening folks, it' me again reporting in from Camp 3 a.k.a "Sea of Sand" which certainly deserve its name. We start at 7am like yesterday and weather was great 24 degree celsius. But of course, the temperature keep rising until reach its peak around 40. I think the strong wind help make it less hot than yesterday but getting sand blow into your face also pretty tough.
The highlight today is, as you know, a huge sand dune, which come in all size and shapes. The tallest one was like 5-6 storeys high and, while climbing up was hard, the running down was really fun (like ski in the sand). I had so much fun that I wanted to climb back up and did it again. Too bad it would probably made me gone over the cut off time which is 7pm here. In fact, it just over and the last one who cross the finish line in time is receiving cheering all around right now. It's quite wonderful experience to be surrounded by group of people with a good mind and spirits.
Anyway, today course was a bit longer and tougher than yesterday. So, it took me slightly over 9 hours to finish. But worry not, I did pace myself to ensure minimum injury to the feet and still going strong. Tomorrow would be many more sand dunes and, while that's means more fun, it will be challenging too. I will reporting in again as usual from camp 4. So, stay tune.

Lastly, I would like to thanks for all the supporting email that keep coming in. It really a highlight for each day and really put a big smile on my face.

And for Khun Marasri, it's such a coincidence that I just had dinner with your friend and was talking about you. So, it's really a pleasant surprise when I saw your email just now. Thanks for the good wish and, I will let the world know that Thai people can achieve anything when we set our mind to it.

02 October 2011 03:17 am (GMT+07:00) Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta

Greetings from camp 2. It's been 7 hours and a half today out there under the burning hot sun in which, during the hottest period, it reached 43 degrees Celsius. Although you can be prepared for this kind of temperature back in Thailand but the mentality toll is other worldly here with endless soft sand, dunes and even sharp chard of granites.
It's kind of putting my mind at ease that I managed to keep my pace all the way and ends up with no blister today. The running up and down sand dunes were quite fun too, thanks to the gaiters which keep the sand out wonderfully. Hopefully it will remains that way tomorrow as there will be much more dunes compare to today.
I'm going to eat and sleep plenty tonight to try and recover my strength as much as possible.

Thanks for all the email and words of support via blog. It sure is nice to know there are people rooting for you. So, in addition to this being personal achievement, I guess I will also win one for friends, love one and country as well.

Next blog will be from camp 3 and I'm sure there will be some amazing experience to share. Until then, good night and take care.

It's hard to know entirely what you have been through. But to me, you are outstanding. This is not to bolster reassurance and affirmation, which by nature, you have already acquired a sense of significance in accomplishing such thing as this when you first decided to do this run. Extract to cheerlead you from Lord of the Rings: " I am not made for perilous quests" cried Frodo " Such questions cannot be answered", said Gandalf."You may be sure that it was not for any merit that others do not possess: not for power or wisdom, at any rate. But you have been chosen (or you have chosen...from my own words) and you MUST therefore USE such strength and heart and wits as YOU HAVE." - J.R.R. Tolkien Keep up the spirit and strain toward the finish line! I will be waiting for you at the end of every stage....

Glad to know you were having fun and running all over sand dunes in the midst of the race. What an exuberant experience! Something so different from what we get here. May the good LORD bless you and watches over your journey through this vast desert. Sandy Horizon for the next stage seems to be challenging but let it not deter you from "knowing" and enjoying the desert. Hear from you soon!

This is me reporting from camp 1 in Sahara Desert. It took 3 hours and a half to get here from Cairo by bus. It wasn's that long a ride but, since I was trying to stay hydrate by drinking constantly, the torturing part became the wait till bus stop for toilet brake. It was really quite a sight when hundred over people jumped down from the bus, race down and start lining up for business.
I kind of already know that camp 1 will be by the lake but seeing it with my own eyes is entirely different story. Just the sight of it already make me feel it's a right decision to come out here.
The dinner today considered luxury for I was having instant noodle whereas, for the remaining meals, it will be bland power bar/gel and freeze dried food all the way till the end.
The night doesn't seems to be as cold as I thought it to be. Anyway, I will try to get as much sleep as I can and be ready for the start tomorrow at 7am.
I will be posting my next blog from camp 2 which would mean I had finish stage 1 of the race. So, wish me luck and stay tune.

Thanks for sharing your updates and giving that microscopic outlook to your journey. Looks like a good thing that you paused and find extraordinary sight in ordinary scenes. Quite a revelation that you amplify and note some of these little things that can easily pass a human pair of eyes.

30 September 2011 04:50 am (GMT+07:00) Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta

I'm posting this very first blog from my room at Dusit Thani Lake View in Cairo. It's been a long and trying journey since the day I decided to particilpate in this event. Finally, here I am, just one step away from start line. So, this is as real as it going to get for me.

Hopefully, tenacity and determination, as always, will help see me through to the finish line.

My flight from Bangkok last night was a bliss and got to the hotel very early in the morning. Had to wait for room arrangement about an hour. But it was a time well spent since I got chance to had a pleasant chat with fellow competitors: Alison from Canada and Chi-li from Taiwan.

I will spend the rest of today to acclimatize and go over the equipments to try cut down some weight in the pack.

Looking forward to the race and hope to get a good sleep tonight.

For everyone back at home, I know you are worry but please also know that I take your words of caution to heart. And, as the old saying goes, journey can only be complete with safe return.
