Hello Sahara Group,
About 3 weeks ago I actually won a lottery slot for Hardrock 100 which is a difficult race to get into. (Extreme mountain 100 here in the states) From the first of the year instead of training all year for a hot desert I will be training for high altitude and high mountains, but since Hardrock is in July it will still give me 3 months for the Sahara. I love it all.

Just received an E-mail from a friend of mind. He is from Germany. I met him running the Namibia Desert Challenge. So add Germany to the list. Thumbs up.

Hi Warren, yeah - weight will certainly be an issue and it's handy to be able to "pick the brains" of someone who's already had the experience! At the moment, where I am, we've had over 15 inches (400mm) of rain in last two months! Cominbg into winter it's getting cool too. Cheers, Terry

Hello Sahara 2012 group,
So far so good. We have one from Spain, Australia, South Africa and the U.S. Terry I know it sounds a little over the top but, I'm checking all my mandatory equipment and weighing each piece. If I can find something a little lighter I am buying it. We have over a year so it can be spread out. Weight is critical in the Sahara because of the heat. It would be nice if we could add some more people and keep this going.

Hi Kris, great to hear you're in too. It seems a long way off but when people start communicating it adds a little more excitement and with all the work yet to be done, you realise it's not that far off at all!
Cheers, Terry

Hi Warren, I live at a place called Pampoolah - near Taree on the mid north coast of New South Wales, Australia. I've done a couple of marathons - slowly, a couple of Ironman Triathlons, and have ridden across the Simpson Desert here in Australia on a mountain bike. Cheers, Terry

Hi Terry,
WOW! First stage race Awesome! You really jumped in head first. I have only done 2 but I have learned a lot. My biggest mistake was carrying way too much weight. Besides slowing you down it sucks all your energy out. Another mistake I made was bringing too much food. I ended up giving some of it away. If you do not mind what are some other races you have done and where do you live?

G'day Warren, I've entered for my first attempt at a stage run. Been to Egypt before - but probably in a little more comfort! Looking forward to it. I think.....

Hi Ben,
I was hoping you would live a little closer like Southern California. It is good that you can train in the heat. Is the Sahara your first stage race? This will be my third and with each one I have learned a lot of information on how to run as light as possible. I have talked to 4 different people who did the Namibia Desert Challenge who may do this one also. Three are from South Africa and one from Geremany. Stay in touch.

Hi again, I live in Mallorca Spain, summer temps often top 40 celcius so hot weather training is not a problem!, I also work as a chef in a seriously hot kitchen!
Currently struggling to get my weight down before I start worring about my gear weight.

Hi Ben, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Yes It will be a tough one. Just got back from a race I did in Namibia. A few people I ran with did the Sahara a few years ago. Hot Hot Hot! I don't know where you live but try to train in the heat if you can. Also run as light as possible. Very inportain for survival. This is what I was told.
