Its on everypart of my body

Yesterday was hot – at one checkpoint it was 47 degrees

But finished – small run around a pyramid tomorrow

Legs ok shape mainly joint pain and blisters

Cant wait for real food, cold beer and shower

Some event this with some amazing athletes like ourselves

Snig smells the most, then snoddy and I am fresh as a daisy

Thanks for all the emails

Cant wait to get back to bore you all about it all

See you/speak soon

Well done to all 3 of your. Absolutely bonkers but totally amazing too. So glad to hear you have all finished and I hear there is a team prize on the cards too...I can just see the 3 of you racing to the finish line for that award sharpening your elbows to get past all the other teams in your way!!! Please take stalk and rest before signing up for the next challenge. Congratulations and enjoy long showers before running home to us all. Hope to see you soon and hear all about it....great video clip by the way so proud to be a family member of that Flying Phannies team. Love from Sara and the rest of the Snoddies. xx

Every morning we wake up to spiderman getting ready for the day, eat some dehydrated stuff and then walk across lots of sand

I have forgotten to mention just how stunning the landscape is - the rock formations and expanse are amazing

And I occasionally look at them when I lift my head up!

Today everything is sore – more blisters, ankle in pain and shoulders – indeed I could write a whole blog about how much pain my body is experiencing!

Now not so worried about the smell of the tent but more worried about how bad I smell!

Everyone in the tent getting on well

Found out that our other Japanese tent mate has actually super endurance man and has competed in 6 Spartahalons – 240km in a oner!

And I thought we were nuts

Actually our tent doing rather well with jack bauer, toby (fit guy from UK) and kevin (aussie airline pilot ) in and around teens and early 20s position

Indeed, your favourite team are lying in 2nd place (out of 3 teams entered) but we were mentioned in dispatches this morning

Tomorrow is hellday squared – 52 miles! Cant quite get my head around it

If blog tomorrow is a bit odd you will understand

Snoddy and snig on good form but in lots of pain – but not as much as me!

Message to emma – snig didn’t sign up to blog package but is loving the emails thanks

Message to flakey – well done on the goals

Message to Lindsay – where is the bloody pizza?

Thanks to all for the messages

Scone cant reply to emails but tried to send one last night – hope you got it

Ah – no way I am getting soppy on a public blog!!

Well done, Deek, and Jamie and Snoddy, have just seen results for Stage five and glad to see youhave all made it in one piece. Have been following you all the way. All those hours in the Pentlands and the sweat machine have paid off. You'll be able to do the sand dance as a party piece now, but bring a fez and a kaftan back with you, at least to make it look a bit authentic!!!! Hope the bodies are not too achy and enjoy the beers, pizzas and Angel delight, which probably appeared to you as a mirage in the desert!!! Brilliant result for a very worthwhile charity. Safe home.

Well here it is! The big one! This is what it is all about. Stepping into the unknown, way out of the comfort zone! You can dine out on this one for a long time, as long as you dine with different people! Best of luck to you all.

31 October 2012 01:16 am (GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi

day 3 is now known as hell day
40+, soft sand and dunes
blisters okay but legs now getting tired
one more `normal` day tomorrow then hellday squared on thursday
the only thing tougher is dealing with the smell in the tent and then the can!
our tent getting on well
as well as spiderman we have a famous japanese comic and the serbian version of jack bauer (of 24hrs fame)
besides ourselves there are some seriously fit dudes here
all 3 of us have similar pains - shoulders, feet, legs but i am moaning the least
need to go and eat now as starting to look slim
if anyone out there is reading this can you send a pizza and a cold beer to somewhere in the sahara!

Halloween today and new James Bond film was out on Saturday so between them lots of film trivia on the radio. Your tent sounds worthy of a film itself. A cross between Banzai, 24 Hours and Restless Natives. "We're going to hide in Penicuik, etc". M

Hi Honey , hope today is going really well and you get it done quite quickly so you can have a big rest before tomorrow . I feel tomorrow could quite possibly be the toughest challenge you have ever taken on , given what u have done everyday this week along with the heat and conditions . I am expecting you to win the Kindrochit this year as it will seem like a sprint triathlon now !!!!!!! hope the feet are holding together and not completely peeling off yet . I expect there will be 133 cases of the worst athletes foot a podiatrist will ever have seen !!!!!!Girls all say hi and we are all missing you loads , i know you are away all the time with work but it is really strange not being able to talk to you and not to know what you are doing . Really really good luck for tomorrow and can't wait to hear how day from hell goes . Love you loads xxxxx

Day 2 and very tough – wrong kind of sand!!! Very soft

Actually there is a lot of sand here and temp at one point today at 40

Note to self – check the bloody website of the event you sign up to – good indication of what to expect!

Both balls of feet BIG blisters – funnily enough very sore to walk on

8 hrs today – lots of folk being taken off the course with heat exhaustion

Tent becoming quite fragrant with 10 guys in it, who sweat all day and cannot wash!

Think tent is actually designed for 8 – we also have spiderman in our tent

Toilets – very interesting – best to go before eating otherwise your food comes back up again

2 more marathons before the 90K day on Thursday – Joy!!

What was I thinking about?

Oh Sweetie , that sounds awful , poor you . Spoke to Sally who is a podiatrist and she says to burst your blisters and then strap them up tight . Have every confidence that you will do it , think of all that money you will raise for CHAS and how much it will help everyone !!!!!! Cant begin to imagine how the tent smells , and the loos - all that dried food being farted out during the night and dumped out during the day , never the best !!!!!!! We are all thinking of you , just grit your teeth and march on through xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

No surprises on day one – very hot, lots of sand and the chat from snig and snoddy was pants

Started at 7am this morning and finished at 2pm

Snoddy has lots of sand in his shoes and moaning about it

I have a couple of blisters already and moaning about it

Snig has sore shoulders and moaning about it

I have never drunk so much (water that is) and peed so little

Think that’s ok

Anyway I am away to extract the sand from every part of my body – it may take sometime

Would kill for a cold beer!

Very informative Derek. Your "there's lots of sand" updates are particularly enlightening. The roll call of your tent mates sounds like Artemis in the old days. Keep up the good work. And do let us know if there's more sand and sun to cope with. M
