Just over a week before the Trailwalker I got a level one tear in my achilles tendon. Not good sign at all. So thanks to a number of intense physio sessions right up to the night before the event and a number of exercises I could do at work I managed to make the start without any pain at all. We have also promised to just walk the first 30 odd km.

| The 1000km Trailwalker event is only 6 weeks away. So on the first weekend in Feb, our team managed to get together and check out all the route changes since last year. This was very handy because we have now seen in daylight those sections of the track that will look so different in the middle of the night. So all I have to do now is get my electrolytes and food ready, put in some new torch batteries and I will be about ready to go. I am planning that this event will be a final test drive of the gear that I hope to take to the Gobi and Sahara. I will wear a pack with about 6 or 8kg in it. The rest of the team will travel light and restock at each of the checkpoints.
This was a very good month for training. The weather has generally been warm to a hot 30+C, and the bushfires are almost out so all the smoke is also gone and breathing is easier again.
This month my aim was to plan my training program, review where I went wrong in the Atacama and start to build up my fitness. The key to my whole training program is to KEEP IT VARIED. Physical endurance is only part of what is needed, the rest is mental and that is hard to train for. It is a long time to the Sahara and I do not want to get bored or worse still injured.
Last August I ran across the finish line of the Atacama Crossing 2006. I was so thrilled about finishing that race I entered the Gobi March 07 almost as soon as I got home from Chile.
