Joy oh joy - it's all over, we survived, we've actually been  in camp for four hours and already feel cool and rested and semi clean (washing ffacilites are whatever drinking water you can spare from your 3 litrres provided on arrival) - just! Never, ever again - please remind me in case I shouldever be so nutty as to hint that I might do another deseert - Idefintely don't. The 'Long March' 91kms took Chris and me 26 hours in unremitting heat followed by freezing night.  - but it was a challenge accomplished and we now know our physical limits and then some. The desert was incredibly beautiful - glorious colours, sunrises, sunsets and amazing variety of scenery from giant limestone pillars in the White Desert to volcanic areas in the Black Desert - BUT the heat, the six day old sweaty garments, sand in everything, the freeze dried food which made me nausious were some of the not so great elements.
So, I,m the oldest woman to finish one of the 4 desert Marathons - was it worth it? Ask me in about a week or so!

You are a star! Have been following you and Christy, and please tell her she is a brilliant writer, her blog is SO funny! Enjoy the last day, and I hope you're checking in to some luxury hotel in Cairo that serves up a full English breakfast!

Well done indeed ! Fantastic that you have completed the Racing the Planet marathon, heaven knows how you did it, specially in those temperatures. But you did, which must be the most amazing sense of achievement. Bravissima and congratulations. Love, Julia

Hi Everyone
Chris and I are still alive and feeling terrific - well maybe that;s a bit of an exageration - everything aches, feet are seriously tired, we;rre coated in sand but have4 made tt through to the finsih of Stage 2. -the last miles were up and down the ridges of a series of dunes - in the dark and  Chris dropped her suncream down a near vertical slope as she was getting her head torch out of her pack.
Teperature peeked at 50C - total melt down. I rigged my emergency alluminium blanket over th4e sunny side of  me - I sounded like a pack of crisps on the move.
It's 7.30pm - got to go and get my freeze dried meal together - then it's into my sleeping bag - have to be up by 5.45 latest for a 8am start..
Thanks so much all of you for th4e encouraging messages - keep them coming.
J
