Good Morning from the Sahara!  I am not sure if my last blog was done correctly so I am going to post again.  Finished Stage 5 with 54miles and did it in 27hours....it was more than a beast and my toenails will be reminding me of it for a while.  That was rough!
 
I am beyond filthy and dirty....WHOLE new level of grunge!  I have managed to throw away my fancy $12 socks each day.  At first it was really hard to do that but then I thought ...why am I hauling dirty laundry over the Sahara?...and into the trash they went.  Could be some sort of analogy on life but I am too tired to really give it due consideration.  haha!
 
Renee....more than once I have thought of the pig roast and how much fun it will be...I am really looking forward to it!
 
Overall....140miles of the original 155miles completed!  Not bad for a first time and a personal rebound after a rough start. I do not know if I will hurry out an sign up for another one but I can certainly see where people get the (bug) to do this once a year.  It takes you out of your element....allows you to meet a lot of great people from all over the world... broadens your perspetive on life....and it stretches any idea of anything you thought you could do.
 
Interesting thing....despite the high temperatures the wind is really a nice cool breeze so as long as you can find some shade it is easy to make it through the hard part of the day...and butterflys are still all over the place....
 
Thanks so much for all of your enouragement....it has meant so much to me!  I look forward to seeing what goals you are thinking about for 2010 !  YEAH...you know how I love that stuff !
 
Signing off from the Sahara where the smells of body odor and freeze dried food have become normal. ick.

Nicely done. Did you even notice that there were pyramids after that 50 mile 27 hour finish?? Get thee to a long hot shower and enjoy your just desserts. I'll bet mama is ready for some ice cream! Rocky Horror crowd was abuzz with your progress last night. See you back in Texas.

Holy Cow. 27 hours...I can't even imagine! How did you know where to go in the dark? I can't wait to hear the story! Did you have a light on your head? Other aspects...no shower for a week? Sunscreen on every day...gritty sand everywhere. A spa day is definitely in order! You have absolutely earned yourself the title "extreme athlete!"

Wow all 50+ miles, what amazing perseverance! And tomorrow's finish at the pyramids, how incredible! Here's to hoping you have a fabulous five star hotel booked in Cairo after the celebration with a soaking tub and spa! Shower is mandatory before dinner next week!

Holy cow!  I got in this morning at 9am after 54 miles and 27 hours on the road....it was FAR more than I imagined.  The leader for that stage finished in 10hours.   I have never been this filthy in all of my life and the smell factor is at an all time high.  Tommorrow it will be an official 1-week since my last shower and I am not sure which is worse - the hiking or the camping.  Regardless it has been an incredible exerience.
 
Tomorrow we move 5hours by bus for the final 1k run and photo opportunity at the Pyramids.  Rumor is there will be beer and pizza for everyone after that!  Sounds great to me.
 
Brian and Shannon - would be great to run in San Diego with my favorite cousins!  I need to get that the calendar.
 
Needless to say, I will probably be hard to live with for a while....make sure to know what your 2010 goals are and what you are doing to make your life a bit fuller....you know I am going to ask! ;)  YEAH...good stuff!!
 
See you next week and thanks again for all of your notes - it was so great to return each day to your words.  It meant so much to me.

Tracey! This is so thrilling for me to think of you way out there in Egypt running along for miles and miles in the desert heat! Have you seen any mirages? Soon you will see the pyramids! That is so amazing! I hope you are listening to either good tunes or inspirational stories on your ipod! whew! What is it that I smell coming from this window. Is that yOoOOooooU? :O) wheeww.

Whew!  What a day!  I finished both yesterday and today which was approx 26miles each day.   Yesterday was 49 degrees C ... what does that convert to in F ?  All I know is that it was HOT.  At 6am tommorrow we start Stage 5 & 6 which is a combined 90k or 50miles straight through.  There will be a break at 30miles to rest and move on.  I think it will take me a full 24-28hours to complete.  Hopefully less....but that is what it looks like.  Need to run.  They are shutting down camp at 830am due to the early start.  Thanks for all of your notes----- it really raises my spirits !
 
If you are interested in meeting very cute and interesting men from around the world....this is a good start.

Okay, so this morning I get up to run before work, and it's warm and MUGGY, and I'm just a complaining to myself about how bad it is, and it dawns on me that my friend Tracey is out there in the DESERT in MUCH worse conditions, so I really should just suck it up and be happy. So, thank you, friend, for being my inspiration!!

Not sure what 49C is, but I do know that 49 is a lot cooler when there is an F on the end. They taught me that at A&M in a senior level class. It's inspiring to see you go this far and I'm sure you'll make it to the end. I think I'll start running from the couch to the fridge instead of walking! Take care and stay safe!

I can't believe you are running in 110 degree heat! A marathon a day! You are Super Woman! I guess you don't want to hear that it is sunny and 70 here in San Diego. Yes, that nice ocean breeze. :) Come do the 1/2 marathon here with me in Jan!

Okay....funny story..... so it is 2pm...in between checkpoint 2 and 3.  HOT and in the middle of no where! Roughly 15miles out.  I needed to go (if you know what I mean). 
 
Wes and Joe....you are correct...its all kitty litter out here.
 
So I veer off the main path and see a SMALL bush where I figure I can quickly get things taken care of.  Going about my business - (two) and I look up and there is this guy coming right at me!  And he says...(say with an english accent) Hello, everything all right?    HaHa!  I just say...Sure, just going to the bathroom.  And he walks on!  Too funny!  Meow.
 
Laura,  I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have thought of our last run together...cool with a bit of rain sprinkles.  Ahhhhh.
 
Kyle...my tentmate, Christain was asking me about my family.  He told me that if he had a sister who was doing this he would be right here with her! Your note about Gobi may be closer than you think but Nepal in May of 2011 sounds good to me.
 
Thanks again for all of the encouragement....I will have PLENTY of stories to tell.  Boys are really nice and very cute....just so you know.

Hi everyone...thanks for the support and kind words.  Today (Tuesday) I made it through Stage 3, which is 26miles and had a full day.  I felt much better as the heat was offset by a very nice wind.  I also had a good nights rest and plenty of dinner last night....amazing what that will do!  On Tuesday I finished only 13 miles and (officially) withdrew from the competitive part of the race....hummm...well....that is okay with me.  Still pushing on to do what I can and have a great experience at the same time.
 
Becky and Shawn ....thanks so much for all of your kind words and support !  I cannot send any pictures just yet but as soon as I get back I will post on Facebook.
 
Randy.. I think we are all in need of a shower at this point....no bad smells in the tent!  :)

Holy cow....this is the real deal.  I made it through the 1st Stage of 21 miles yesterday but only made 12-13 miles of a 27mile Stage 2 today.  It was 110 degrees, no wind, thick sand and my energy level completely dropped.  I ended up taking the Land Rover back to the camp...enjoyed a great sunset and had dinner with interesting people from Hong Kong, UK and a few other places in the states.
 
One of my tent mates is from Austria and is one of the contenders to win...he completes each day  before I
I am half way done. Super nice person and has been very supportive of me each night.
 
Thomas and Corina.....one of the many treats has been the abundance of butterflies in the desert --- it is a nice treat to have one land on me and to recall SO MUCH MORE FUN on the Kimama in Spain.  Last night I wanted to quit and I was thinking .....hummmm.....I quit this silly race....head back to Cairo and take a flight to Zurich.  The thought of the pictures you sent last week of snow in the Swiss mountains...it was a bit too good!  I am still here so I will have to wait until this spring to see you.
 
Thanks, Dad and Don for all of the positive vibes!!!  That means so much to me!  Tell Mom and Betty I am safe and having a great time.  Not everyone can say they have been camping in the Sahara..... ;)

Tracey girl, you ROCK! I'm still trying to get my head around the 1/2 marathon in Dallas! LOL! I can't even imagine running 21 miles across the desert! As soon as I saw all of those booties everyone was wearing and the text about running with sand in your shoes, that did it for me. I can't wait to hear all of your stories! What a great adventure!

Craig and I are amazed that you have taken on such an incredible feat. Lisa and Lori completed he 45 mile Live strong challenge yesterday and Lisa said that even her eyelids were sore today. It was definitely not 110 so you get mucho bonus points for HOT! You know me, shopping for shoes at Saks and Nordstroms is my idea of a workout...You are our fitness hero! Take good care. TMAC you are so COOL! Well maybe not cool...110 degrees is a bit HOT! O.K. so you are Hot! It sounds wonderful, I am so happy for you. Do you know if there are more butterflies than usual? Tracey!!! I am following you and feeling teary-eyed just thinkin' of you out there in that large desert... running it every day! I ran tonight with my ultra runner sister and sister in law up in the hills. It was torturous for me.. but I kept thinking... "tracey is running through the desert... I can do this!" You PUSHED me.
