Team Shake and Bake only went and won the team category. Whhhhhhaaaammmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy......................
Just a nice little glory run of 2k through the pyramids tomorrow and this will all be over - Thank god.
"I wont lie to you Bryn", I am absolutely Buckled and spending 21 hours on the course yesterday was the hardest thing I have ever done. We left camp yesterday at 6.30am and got in this morning at 3.30am. I know you don’t want to hear about my blood blisters, Swollen legs, Fingers, thighs, etc etc so I save those stories for when im back and have the photos to back it up with.
We let Ross's "special friend" Jensen win . In fact Jensen was Ross's room buddy when he got to Cairo and he obviously didn’t opt for the diet of Guiness and getting as smashed as a crab prior to the event like I did. He also put a bit more prep with the bag weight as he got it down to about 7klg where as mine was nearly double that at 13. My shoulders are screwed and I had them taped up yesterday before the big day, pulling the tape and hairs off my back at 3.30 this morning was not much fun.
We are all lying around camp today waiting to get Tomorrow morning over with so we can have a few beers and celebrate what we have done. I also cant wait to get a burger or something of some real taste and substance down my throat.
Thank to all the new starters at CF that have sent me will wishes as I don’t recall meeting Ron Jeremy and friends before I left tocome out here, I also think with some of the jokes I have received mine are clearly not the worse.
Thanks to everyone else for the well Wishes as they really help you through the low moments and I can assure you there was more of those then highs.
Looking forward to catching up with you next week.

Just finished day 4 and im shattered. I have no idea how we are going to shake and bake through tomorrow. Morale was Pretty low yesterday after spending ten long hours in the sun.
Today was a little easier on the mileage side of the things but the ten blisters on my feet and the heat rash made it a lot of hard work.
We are keeping eachother going by a combination of my cr@p jokes, Ross Determination and Loizou being an absolute trooper.
Sounds like theres a few pictures of us on the web, hopefully they dont show the ones of us cussing eachother. Incase your worried no punches have been thrown yet, even after four very tough Days.
I spend most my days thinking about KFC, M&S Iced buns, Sloppy Gissepe, "Pint of Guiness......and a packet of Scampi fries" (In joke for you at work) Lagers are also top of the list. I cant wait to have that beer back in the Hotel'. That all tastes better then a sloppy dried Chicken korma and Chicken Tikka that i have some how managed to keep down over the last four days.
So tomorrow is a big day, Up at 4am to leave camp about 6-6.30am to do 94k across the sand so we wont finish til 8am the following morning at the earliest (friday morning). I have saved my ipod battery for that day as i think only Neil Diamond & Big Phil Collins can get me through that day. Ive never walked / jogged for over 24 hours constantly so im pretty sure thats going to be emotional but im looking forward to it so we can finally get it over with.
I Cant thank you enough for all your emails, it means a lot to me and they really do keep us all going, i read all of them so please keep them coming.
(again my swollen fingers in the heat arenot helping with my typing so forgive my typos)
looking forward to reading your emails when i finish that long stage.
P.s for those of you who mocked me about the crocs, they are amazing for when you have just done 20 odd miles on your feet - even if they do look very special
Much Love
Spicey xx

She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?"
He walks on, doesn't look back
He pretends he can't hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there
Oh think twice, it's another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it's just another day for you,
You and me in paradise
She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet
Can't walk but she's trying
Oh think twice...
Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say
You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she's been there
Probably been moved on from every place
'Cos she didn't fit in there
Oh think twice...

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air
They fly so high, nearly reach the sky
And like my dreams they fade and die
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air

Come on buddy, dig deep for that Dunkirk spirit! We didn't win 2 World Wars and 1 World cup worrying about fat fingers and foot fatigue. You don't hear Jensen Anders harping on about his blisters!!

You three are absolute heroes. Don't let anyone tell you different. I would never have the b*lls to do what you are doing and neither would 99.99% of the country. Keep going, you all CAN do it.

Well first day done and team Shake and Bake completed stage 1...............Man Alive that was an eye opener.
I knew it was going to be hot, but this was hotter then i could imagine. and as you can imagine sand is not easy to walk and run in. So to do both of those in 45c heat...
We started off well and got jogging in places but by the time mid day had come around it was just about getting to the next check point and then carrying on as the heat was imense.
Feeling ok at the moment only my first blister of many but overall fairly happy with the first stage, on the down side it only gets harder from here......
Thanks for all the messages of support keep them coming they do keep you going when your out then and when your questioning your sanity and why you are doing this.
Everything is good here at the moment. apologies if there are any typos but my fat digits are too big for these keyboards.
My Chicken Korma Freeze dried meal is calling.................
Much Love - Spicey and Team Shake and Bake xxxx

Hello All,
Well seeing as this is my first ever blog of my 29 years i figured i might as well save it for something like the Sahara Race.
I have no experience in these ultra Marathon events, but im really looking forward to what is going to be an amazing experience. Sure theres going to be some very low points, but i reckon the "Highs" will certianly out weigh these.
If anyone had mentioned this sort of thing to me 4 years ago i would have laughed at the idea. However now im a keen runner, have a Marathon under my belt and various other running / walking events and felt that I want to participate in an event that will have a better sense of achievement then when i crossed the finish line in the New York Marathon.
I probably have not done as much training as i had planned to do, but i am determined to get across that finish line, even if its Run, walk or crawl....
It would be great to hear from anyone who has any advice for first timers on this event so feel free to drop me line.
Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks.
Spicey

Just imagine a nice cold 6 pack at the end of every stage - should be enough to keep you going!
Posted On: 08 Sep 2010 05:07 am
Hi Keith,
Preparation is key. Read up as much as possible about the race and the conditions. Find out the daily mileage and know what type of terrain you will encounter.
Make sure you assemble your pack and kit now, work out what you're plan is for the race - be realistic. Is it run as much as possible or run walk or just walk? This will determine the time you are out in the sun and the type of food/nutrition you require. As Kelly says, break it down. I find I actually break the day down to check points by check points - a 10km stage is much easier to focus on then 42km day.
Make sure that you have the right equipment, food and try some runs with the pack. If it's too heavy, be brutal about what you have. Throwing out excess kit in the desert after day one is common....!!
Keep to your marathon style training programme, but on your long run at the weekend do it really slowly with the pack.
Finally, if you can get a cheap flight to Lanzarote from Stansted in next couple of weekend, do it and try a couple of days in the warmer, drier weather ;-)
If not, try and arrive in Egypt a few days earlier to acclimatise.
All the best
Rob

Hi Keith
Sound s like you have done some good training. One tip I would give is just to take it one day at a time. If your finding one day particularly tough don't even think about the next day. Its amazing how well the body does recover over night. Stick to a good nutrition plan, look after your body and it will look after you!
Let me know if you have any particular questions.
Good Luck
Kelly

Hi Keith,
I think the best thing for first timers (like me too) is just to anticipate body pains here and there and take it all in, and spit it all out.
Lets enjoy the ride!
