Awesome effort Marisa! It sounds like the environment was tough on everyone and you have achieved an amazing amount - be proud! Hope the recovery goes well and enjoy a good steak when you first get the chance :)

Marisa Well done. We are still very proud of your achievement. Travel safely home.

Stage 3 is completed. I came in about 45 min ago and despite having a recovery drink and water, I am not yet all here. It was a super super tough day. it took me about 9 hours to finish the slightly longer than marathon distance. 10km on packed sand, 20km on the beach with packed sand and then 13k on rocky terrain coming back inland. I am going to have nightmares about that last 10km for awhile. I did today by myself.

I so appreciate your raw honesty, sis. what you are doing is f***ing hard. "Pole pole," as they tell trekkers on kili. "Slowly slowly." One step at a time, one breath at a time. You've got all the love in the world backing you up. We love you so so much

I'm sure you'll crush Stage 4 tomorrow just like you did Grancanaria. You've got this! Looking forward to hearing about what songs got you through, your power thoughts, and the beautiful scenery you're enjoying along the way. And eventually explaining the word niggles to me. :-)

Marisa, you are an amazing woman. You have such a strong head and your determination will get your aching body across the line. Try 'Wind beneath my Wings' on stage 4; we will all be with you in spirit as you place one foot in front of the other....all the way to the finish. We are super proud of your efforts. Words don't fully express my admiration for this absolutely incredible feat. Go girl, we are in awe of you. You are in my thoughts day and night ( when sleep eludes me). Virtual hugs from Cromwell. Xx

Remember how often you toughen it out on the softball mound. One step at a time and you'll make it. Hang in there!

Yeah that sounds like a tough one, but you made it! Not only did you finish Stage 03, but you still have enough energy to crack jokes. That's a good sign! When you cross the line after Stage 06 you can have all the steak you want! Good luck with Stage 04 tomorrow. Just take it CP by CP and focus on getting through the next 10km, not the remaining 70. I know you will do your best and come out smiling on the other end.

I have made it to camp 2!!! The exclamations underscore my excitement for finishing the day. The terrain was not bad-had some sand dunes and some rocky sections.

You go girl. Super proud of you. Mentally I know would have been tough but getting to the end of today (and past CP1) will help you massively and improve your mental game. I always find Day 2 the hardest so congratulations on getting through. Don't stress about your pace - as long as you are moving forward that is all the matters! Keep it going :) xx

I made it! It was an amazing day and super beautiful. The sun came down on us but winds kept us from scorching heat. We did 38k today and I thought initially I would be somewhere around 8 hours but I came in just under 7 hours. I rocked at power walking-who knew?!

Can just imagine you singing your way thru the desert!! 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us' from Top Gun is another classic! Can't wait to read your update of getting past your big mark. So incredibly proud of, and humbled by, you. Also FYI, Mama Heal is ALL over this in social media land. Go #TeamMarisa!!

I decided to take my time traveling to Namibia from Auckland to really make sure I had a few good nights of sleep and avoid jet lag. Wednesday I flew to Sydney and spent the night there (and got to have dinner with 4deserts bestie Jo!), and now I am in Johannesburg and staying here for the evening. Tomorrow I fly to Walvis Bay and time will start to move very fast once I arrive with last minute packing optimisations, race briefing, meeting other competitors and gear check.

Hey Marisa - by the time you will read this, I bet you will be done and dusted with Stage 2 and enjoying some freeze dried delights :) Super proud finishing Stage 1 and I am sure you will (would have) smash(ed) Stage 2 as well! So good to catch up with you in Sydney the other night and I definitely think you have the willpower, strength and right attitude to make it to the finish line. I will be checking out the photos and following the race this week. Go girl xx

MARISA! I've just seen that you've finished stage one, I'm really looking forward to reading about it :) I bet your post (this post!) from Johannesburg seems like a lifetime ago already, but hope you've felt proud of the solid start you've made today <3 <3 Tomorrow is unknown territory, but each stage and each CP is that much closer to the finish line. You've got this!
