Hi Steve - I got online to 4D to follow a tent-mate of mine from Atacama 2015 - Marie-Paul Pearson - and noticed that you had taken the crazy plunge as well. A stunning experience, I'm sure, and well done for completing! Cheers, Geoff

Job well done at this point, just an easy 10km sprint tomorrow, even I could do that! I don't know if you'll read this before you set off on the final stage or not, but I know you'll finish strong. And when you're back at the hotel nursing your injuries with some refreshing ice cold medicine, make sure to take a quiet moment and reflect on what you've just done.

Why am I doing this?

Stephen, By the time you read this I sincerely hope you have arrived ‘safely’ in Swakopmund and that purgatory is over. In ‘the comfort’ of my local this evening (Fri 5th May), I happened to mention what you were up to and there was a general gasp of incredulity and admiration – and a few beers promised should you ever be in this Parish. Whether you have a few cold ones in the Beach Hotel in Swakopmund or the Hilton in Windhoek, they are so well deserved – Tafel Lager / Hansner Pilsner?. The wife of an old Army colleague of mine – Mimi Anderson (http://www.marvellousmimi.com/main-achievements/) who was the overall winner of the Namibian Desert Challenge – 2010, has sent me a Facebook message asking that I pass on her “respect!” I look forward to the opportunity for you to relate it all to me. Best wishes for a speedy recovery?

Great job. Hope it is a little cooler and you can cope with the sand dunes. Have some happy thoughts for the last stages of the race- all good here.

Big Stevie, truly impressive the performance you put in on the Big March! When I saw you briefly at CP5, your eyes were glazed, you were probably confused ("WTF is Ed doing here, there's no f#%*ing he coulda passed me...") but, honestly, you also had a look of, "screw you desert, I'm kicking your ass, I've got this covered". Awesome effort...!!! I'm guessing yesterday at the camp was pretty miserable and I'm putting big money on even little Stevie finally having nothing to say to anyone for at least one 2 hour period! We drove Stage 5 as we exited the desert. Another diabolical day of heat and soft sand for sure; I'm not envious but once done then it's just the victory lap on Saturday. Look forward to welcoming you guys back to the civilisation known as Swakopmund. Nice shower facilities, cold beer and real food await you. See you Saturday. Great job, mate.

Well done Stephen. Eternal bragging rights and cold beers await. That last marathon will feel like a training run. Try and enjoy it - it's not like you will be back there any time soon !

Finnish line, a short while after that first beer and you'll know the answer to "why". Finish it! Cheers Ali

Stephen, Very impressive. You are putting up a good show for us oldies and putting the youngsters to shame. At least I had 4 wheel drive vehicles when I was there in '93. Keep up the good work.
