Besides the blisters, I can only imagine the elation that you girls must have felt crossing the finish line a few days ago. Praise the Lord that the lions stayed away!! We look forward to hearing more about your adventures should you have time to check in with us. Kind Regards Nat Weekley (Alumni Coordinator) Trinity Christian School.

Once more at the right day (blog) - sorry! Hi Nicola and Charlotte. Unfortunately my first comment did not work. Hope this will..... That you made it (and I'm sure, you will reach the end) I never thought in December. It's so incredible and amazing. You both made a very very hard job for a very very good thing. You can be so proud. Today I thought I made a hard job in the wooods - but I know, it's nothing comparing to your work! Love from Switzerland

So inspiring Nic and Charlotte! Just imagine what you can tell your children and grandchildren - ha ha! Another amazing 40 km run over sand dunes and the scenery looked spectacular what I saw from photos. Just a mere 10 kms to go - which you will be blitzing now. So close. Hope you enjoyed the last leg and the Skeleton Coast. Live it up listening to the African music while eating 'real' food with your newly made 4deserts friends. The volunteers and crew you couldn't have been without, so a big thank you to them too, for looking after 'our' girls so well.So utterly proud and can't wait to hear all the details. Love and hugs to you both. Xxxx

Nicola, by the time you read this, you (and your wonderful racing buddy, Charlotte) will have completed the final stage of the 250 km Namibia desert multi-marathon race. And you will also be wearing finisher's medals around your necks. What a fantastic achievement! I'm done with trying to offer encouragement and support. From now on, I'll think about what you and Charlotte have achieved when I need inspiration. And I will be asking you guys for advice about physical and mental toughness, safety around wild animals and - perhaps even - personal hygiene tips when travelling! Enjoy the end-of-race celebrations that you so richly deserve. Looking forward to talking soon. Love always, paps

Bloody amazing Nicola!!!! You are nearly there, the next 10km will hopefully be easy as pie/ hot stew and other delicious foods awaiting on the other side of that finish line. I am soo sooo happy for everything you've already achieved so far. You've got this!! xxxx

I have nothing motivational left to say because I used it all up in my letters and blog posts but I love you too and I am especially excited to hear what the exciting meal might be and to talk to you both on FaceTime and cry because I am so bloody happy and I love you two so much. I always knew you two could do it because you always support eachother and you are both so stubborn. Love you both! Ps bride to be pippa is looking fierce for her wedding next week and Scott disick is devo kourtney has moved on from him. Xxxxx

Have been waiting all day for this!!!!!!! Your life will never be the same! I always dreamt of one of my kids ( minus Helen) making the Olympics but this Getting as close as it gets. I am glad that you proved me wrong with my notion, that this was a crazy idea when you came up with it in November, especially with the knowledge that you had never run a normal marathon. We are so so happy that you got to take in some of the beautiful scenery as well. I can't believe that your knee held up!!! Also looking at some other blogs, it appears that many competitors are and were struggling with being physically sick. Some facts: 1. If you were to do it again ( just kidding here) you could be first in your age group since Kristinet Althoff needs to move up an age group next year. 2. If Phillip were to race, he would have a great chance to come first or second in his age group since only the Japanese man is finishing. 3. Food for thought for Chris Lynch: No woman finished in the oldest age group. Can't wait to hear It all in person. Love, love, love

An easy 10km left!! The dunes sound amazing and the views would have hopefully taken your mind off the feet and knee pain.. Thinking of you on your last day - should be able to run the whole way huh?! hehe Especially with hot food at the finish line!!! Anyway gotta go, Levi has just done a big poop!! Love ya girls xxoo

I've been lying on my bed while my washing machine washes my clothes... refreshing your blogs.... and then all of a sudden these people were outside on their balcony with a tanning booth. so Now I'm watching them then themselves... and the guy is posing a lot... I wish I could send you guys a picture of it.. its amusing for me! You guys will be coming home with an el natural tan though!! Can't wait to see pics of you guys at the finish line! make sure you take photos of your hearty meal! it sounds delicious and will probably be the best thing you've eaten all week!! xxx

I hope charlotte is doing a good job of cleaning them, theresa's ear is mankey as. We are so confident that you are going to smash the last day that we are placing a bet on the cook islands to beat png in rugby league today. a real underdog story like you guys!

Nicola. What a magnificent effort - stage 5 completed and now the short run to the finish line. You and Charlotte are wonderful champions and have inspired everyone here with your tenacity and support for each other. We are all in awe of you both. Enjoy the last bit and, of course, a long shower, clean clothes and proper food.

Hello girls, I kept checking/refreshing yesterday and last night but didn't think to check breaking news till this morning. And then searched for your blogs again to read your Stage 4 updates. We were so worried about you on the Long March when we started to see the the longer times the earlier competitors were finishing in. Char and Nicola you are just the best - now completed 200 kms in some very tough conditions. You are such an inspiration! You never know you might just inspire an old codger to find a challenge to complete. And that photo captured of you too, in a Mars like landscape, is so cool. Cheers Gordon and Monica

Nicola, congratulations on taking those big, bad Namibian dunes down! Only 8 hr 34 mins of pain among the dunes. You and Charlotte came in 57th and 58th out of 77 competitors who have finished after 5 stages. What a phenomenal accomplishment. We are so, so proud of you both and thrilled that this dream is coming true for you. Can't wait to hear about it from you in person. Enjoy that last stage across the finishing line. Lots of love, paps

Nic and char! You guys are bloody fab and I always knew you could do it. Remember how I was always most supportive of this adventure. Anyway, I knew you could do the running bit, I just wasn't sure if you would survive alongside scorpions, jackals and dehydrated spag Bol and repetitive food because we know food is our number 1! We had Nik and Laura wedding and I got loosey glossy and merry and told everyone about you gals. We even broke some plates in your honor.. I think! In very important daily mail news; a tinder creep conned 12 women out of $160,000, chrissy teigen admits to have extensive plastics surgery on her face (what?!?!?), Shane Warne is going loco coco and kourtney k has a new man! Anyway go smash these last two stages so I cns keep telling everyone tipsy or not tipsy how fabulous my two favorite little Beyoncé sisters are. Love you both xxxxxx

#trooper Ha - I bet you thought my sentiment above was the extent of my post! #wrong! So impressive Nic that you and Char got through the long march. You realize you're basically done! Just a couple more cruisey days before a few weeks or R&R provided you can walk. Nah kidding, that's what cars and planes are for you. Love you mate, keep it at!

We're very impressed Nicola! Just for you: "We all live under same sky, but we don't all have the same horizon". Hope your scenery is enjoyable tomorrow. " The pen that writes your life story, must be held in your own hand". This chapter of your story sounds really exotic - in between the pain bits, that is. Love from us.

My second favourite thing about this blog/comments thing is reading uour parents' comments. You made Chrissy babe swear positively!! And Tommy haha. Yes! My first favourite is reading about how you two are kicking butt at this thing! Just keep riding that wave, when it seems like it's down, it'll always come back up again! #whatwouldhelendo (I need to dig up my fitspirsiton quotes from years ago for you). But really, you don't need them. An old man at that bus stop today said to me today 'WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE, LASS'. Little does he know, tricky nicky, little does he know. Xx

Oh Nic! I've just been catching up on your blogs and reading the comments and fully teared up! Roger and I are so incredibly proud and in awe of you and Charlotte... can't even begin to imagine what you've been dealing with! You two women rock!! Much Love to you both as you set off on your final day! T & R. Xxx

Hi Nicola! Congratulations on the epic struggle you both have been through. Can't begin to imagine it. Only glad you both made it and that we found out how hard it was for you when that stretch was over. Hope today you scrambled over those dunes, rocks whatever was thrown in your path. I know you and Charlotte can do anything life throws at you now. So pleased you are Charlottes friend. You are winners whatever happens and so proud of you both. Lots of love Chris xx Good luck for the last day!

Mr Paps

Posted On: 05 May 2017 07:02 am

Nikki, I just wanted to correct your mother's blog above to say that Charlotte's dad and I were NOT tipsy last night. Why should we be, after just a couple bottles of bubbly to celebrate your achievements.... Reading your and Charlotte's blogs after those brutal days and nights in the Namibian desert has been inspirational for we non-marathoners! Now you will do whatever it takes to get through the day 5 dune stage - keep laughing, keep staying positive, keep spitting water on each other, and most importantly keeping walking. And you will reach the end. And we will be in even more awe of your accomplishments. Lotsaluv, Proud Paps

Unbef..........ing lievable! This will be the first and last time that I will do positive swearing in writing, but I think the situation warrants it. Everyone here is so so excited with you! Brace yourselves for some morning TV show interviews or publishers who wants oh to write your autobiography. Yes, all the parents did get slightly tipsy last night, and while eating ( another broken rule) we kept checking if your blog was up. We have a great network going, which reaches across the ocean. Everyone knows something, heard something, passes one some news at any time in the day. We actually also checked some other blogs and you girls kicked a....! Honestly, getting this bigger picture through other competitors as well puts your effort into even more amazing context and perspective. P and I are at the beach and had a great swim. Everything we do now, ( I write that with carrot cake in front of me), we comment with " oh, the girls would so enjoy this". I am not worried for your last stage now, as I think your adrenaline will carry you to the finish line. Do you have an idea, when We should be on standby in terms of face timing after your return to the hotel? Lots of love, hugs and kisses

Phillip Lynch

Nicola, we celebrated your epic 80k finish with your family last night. The champagne flowed ! Now for that last great r- the dunes - which I am sure you and Charlotte will conquer as you have at all the other stages. You are both UNBELIEVABLE and everyone here are in awe of you both. A hot shower and the beach are just around the corner!! Take care and we look forward to celebrating your finish in a couple of days.

Well done Nicola!! You are a beast! I feel like I've been a worried parent, refreshing all day every day waiting for your blog post or finish time. Mary has been great on Facebook informing us of your domination. You gals have hit $16,088 now! I love the bargaining, very smart of you! Just stay confident, you guys crushed the 80km and you're going to dominate the dunes! Just remember, it doesn't matter how fast you're going, as long as you keep moving :D :D :D Massages for both of you when you get home! xxxx

Made day 3!!!!!! Wahhooo!! Very sore body (back is busted and knees feel so sore) but so hsppy to hve made it half way. The course today was definitely the worst, so much beach running on chunky sand and the last 10km wss a slow steady sttaight incline on red brown gravel with literally no wildlife aroumd, fuly felt like mars.

Nic - killing it! Seems as though it's good strong to the pointy end of the race so no time for jokes or witty banter. One foot in front of the other tomorrow, I think that's how walking is done. Also, shout out below from your boy TR (Teddy Roosevelt) - Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.

Just keep making up your mind that no matter what comes your way, no matter how difficult and no matter how unfair it seems. You will prove to youself that you will do more than simply get by but you will thrive in spite of it. Having recently lost a family member due to a rare cancer I can honestly say your determination and strength is truly admirable and it is just a testament of how amazing you both are! I miss you a lot. I played at the park today with Leon. We saw a new girl and a boy in Emily's tummy. I love you so so so much. Noah xoxoxo

Hi Nicola and Char, Saw from the Sahara Race website that Day 3 was more difficult - and your report above tells us why. Uphill finish over 10km - such fun, NOT!!! We are thinking of you doing it tough supporting others who are doing it tough. Keep it up and hope all goes well on Day 4, and looking forward to your next blog/report. Cheers

Incredible!!!!!!!! I cannot believe that you made it to day three after day one looked like this would be it. So you already score round 120 goals!! I am also sure that the medical team will work wonders! I wonder if this was the hardest leg? As long as you body holds up, I know you and Charlotte will be fine. Remember why one of your favourite uncles is called Pew? He would have embraced the notion of not having to wash for a week. Also think about how great this is for the environment. Not much news from here. Week 2 for Leon's preschool. Noah is really looking after him and Leon is right in with all the older boys. They are still into playing cowboys, so at times cowboys so at times we find Leon sitting on the toilet just 'dressed with a hat. So, so proud!!!!!!!!!!!

Success! We made it to day 2!! Feeling so much happier today. I popped a codeine in the morning and at 20km. the knee was still niggly but not too bad and the course was so so so scenic today (ran through old diamond mines, across baby dunes and by the water) which was really cool. I also felt my foot was a bit chafey but not too sure but at csmp I found s blister that is literally the size of a ten cent piece and soooo puffy! The doctor drained it and patched me up so hopefully all good tomorrow.

Hi Nicola well done for stage 2. So glad you felt better and could run. Hope the blisters weren't too painful today. You are so committed! You both looked so good in the photos we saw. (Maybe you felt different)The volunteers also must be lovely to give up their time to go into the desert to help. Hope you're getting lots of sleep in with all those guys. Wishing you both only the best and are with you all the way. Xx Good luck and already you're both winners to me!!! Ps. I will talk to Chrissy about doing it next year- maybe a foursome??? haha

Well done, that's my girl! Paps went out in sympathy tonight with you and had the last remaining bolognese from last week ( remember the one he made before you left). It smelled abit sour and was slightly blue on top but he is still ok ( so far). We all had a fasting day yesterday ( 6:1 for me not 5:2. Mitch refused and am not sure why). The rest of us had throughout the day: 30gr of oats, one apple, two tiny slices of black bread and a pho with lots of broth and veggies, including 50gr of noodles ( it's about four dried spaghetti). The consequence was that we all felt very energized! We beemend this across to you, thus your great success for stage two!!!!! Paps is dwelling on Clair's comment about the knee massage, maybe your should arrive in camp 3 with a sore elbow. Sound you have met a great bunch of people but we are curious about the life advise you were given ( I though we gave you all you needed to know!) Lots of love ( I couldn't sleep last night as I was so worried)

Yahoooo Nicola! Absolutely thrilled to see that you and Charlotte did so well in finishing Day 2 of your multi-marathon adventure. First thing each morning we check the results page (your Blogs only come up later in the day). Your really positive blog reports today made my day! It's gray and cold in Canberra. You're much better off over there in the Namibian desert. After dominating the first two days, you and Charlotte should be pumped for Day 3. So proud of you two WINNERS! lots of love, P PS I sent Charlotte a separate message about who should (or should not) be massaging your sore legs!.

We did our fasting day yesterday and only ate 500 calories so I feel you! Hope those cliff bars and plain spaghetti are delish! Love ya xxxx Ps you and char should keep giving everyone direct links to your blogs so it's easier for people to leave comments!

Good job!!!! Glad you're feeling better and crushed day 2. Little daily inspiration from the US: "It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit." Way to silence that voice and dominate day 2!!!!!! xo

Sorry to hear about the pain in your knee Nicola. (I can empathise with knee pain:( ) I do pray that it has subsided a little today. What an amazing experience you must be having! And what a great cause you are supporting. Keep your chin up and your knee taped. If you are anything like me after a couple of pain reducing codeine it could be an entertaining race. God Bless. "I have had dreams and I have had nightmares, but I have conquered my nightmares because of my dreams." I told a physio at work that I an injured knee and she told me to say I had "stressed" my knee as the language I used would help me think of the pain differently. Hope that helps you too! XX

Chris Roth

Nic, painkillers look the way to go. You might even recover your knee as the weight gets lighter and you might just have tensed it up too much. Knowing you, you will not give up unless there is no other way. Whatever happens, you can have many more Sahara races. It is not like the Olympics, which only comes every 4 years. We are just as excited and nervous as you!!!! Love you,

Well, we anticipate that around 12 midnight our time you possibly might be close to finishing day one. That means you scored 42 goals!! Would have been hot, or? Presumably you are getting used to your own bo and the first wet wipes will come out. Is everyone still nice or are the competitive streaks coming out? Don't worry about the comparison with childbirth. Remember I would go for childbirth anytime if I could avoid the dentist, so it is all relative...... Our day here: Trash and Treasure in the morning, lunch with the Penders, walking around lake Tugg with Tess and the boys and sushi for dinner. Neighbour Lindsay brought a fresh bread... Hi Nicola, great camp blog. Hope you did get to see some jackals, but not too close! I guess you are both really tired after today but hopefully all went well and you enjoyed it as well as you could. It would surely be tough when youre tired. Did a cardio class at the gym with Chrissie for 30 mins and we're wrecked. Can't wait to hear of today's travels.
