Thiago Diz is an adventure and travel photographer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His RacingThePlanet adventures started 6 years ago when he joined the Atacama Crossing (Chile) 2013 as an official photographer. Masataka Kiyono is a documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and writer based in Kanagawa, Japan. At the Namib Race he will come to follow racer Wataru Tabuchi to celebrate his achievements of running to share with his students who will celebrate a big anniversary at the school.
Kiyono has directed numerous television documentaries in Japan, often focusing on themes of education, personal growth, and human resilience. As a contributing writer for Blue. magazine — Japan’s leading surf culture publication — he covers stories rooted in nature, community, and the ocean.
His feature-length documentary film WAKITA PEAK follows a surfing family in Hawaii, exploring the meaning of family and the bond shared through waves. The film was screened in 11 major cinema complexes and more than 20 independent theaters across Japan, where it continues to be shown.
Kiyono’s life work is to document the essence of humanity revealed when people confront extreme challenges or engage deeply with nature. Through television, film, and writing, he strives to share these moments with audiences in Japan and beyond. In the Namib Desert Race, he aims to capture the precise moment when a person transcends their own limits.
