Thanks everyone for such nice comments! I wish I could give you all big hugs! Carmen, absolutely. I think you can send me an email through here and we can coordinate a time to chat. I'd be happy to share some more insights and answer questions if you'd like. I think if you click on the official competitors area there's a link to my e-mail, but I'm not sure if that's still active. Otherwise, find me on Instagram at bethanyjbetzler and send me a DM and we can go from there!

Yes...still reading...and loved your wrap up blog! Life really is about the journey, the people we help along the way and not a race to the finish line. Well said, Bethany...and I loved having your sweaty, sandy clothes laying around the house! Lots of love, Mom

I woke up this morning, like every morning this week since Monday, and I thought I was done. Both the body and the mind had reached a certain limit. As I stood up onto my swollen feet, I looked around and noticed that nearly every person there was limping. The collective stink of our bodies permeated the gymnasium. We ate our dehydrated meals with somber faces and slowly tied up the shoes. Like everyday, I just started packing up, and took it all one minute at a time. If you don

Totally mindblowing to me Bethany...I am in awe of what you & Rishav accomplished. It was great to see and talk with you today. I love how the mindfulness plays into all of this and I am looking forward to experimenting with it a bit - whether it is one more run or many more - right now I don't know. I love you big.

Bethany! What an experience you have had. Only being able to access your blog now, it gives me comfort and relief to know that you’re ok. Your strength and perseverance is admirable. Your blogs are written in such a way that it feels like we’re on this journey with you and feel your pain, enjoyment, reflections and self-doubt. I’m so incredibly proud and humbled by your commitment to your cause which no doubt they are grateful for. Enjoy the sunshine and celebrations ahead. Sending you lots of love my friend xo

I am so proud of you for finding your inner and outer strength to persevere! I knew you had this in you. I knew you were going to rise to this challenge and I am cheering for you from your “training camp” every step of your way. I hope that it brings more awareness and support to the Empowerment Plan in Detroit....and for all of us to appreciate the the every day comforts that we enjoy! Lots of love, Mom

Finally, a rest day! We are actually posted up in a gymnasium as our camp from last night has been flooded with rain. It looks a bit like a disaster relief site in here, but

Every day when you make it to the finish line at camp, you can hear the sound of a drum calling you in. Today, hearing that sound was the sweetest relief.

Day 2 started out beautifully. My body felt recovered and the weather was cool and overcast, and Rishav and I were able to run quite a bit. It felt so good to stretch the legs and move quickly. Eventually however, my feet became too sore to be able to enjoy moving. But there was so much moving left to do. Even walking felt labored, and we still had another 24km to run.

But the landscape was even more majestic than yesterday. Rishav has kept me going in the tough moments, and I am so grateful that he has been willing to stay with me even though I know that he could easily run ahead.

Onward to Day 3. Thank you all for the love and comments!

Hello Bethany, I can just imagine how wonderful the sound of that drum is at the end of a long day of running! I hope the beauty of your surroundings can provide a degree of distraction from any discomfort you may be feeling. Super glad you and Rishav are there to support and encourage one another throughout this epic adventure. I'm so proud of you! Surrounding you in white, protective light always.

When I was little, I was the kid that got sick or hurt all of the time. While I loved exploring nature outdoors, I was also clumsy, and had not been blessed with the greatest immune system. My parents, well-intended, would often remind me of this and would worry if I went out for too long in the winter cold or if I had expressed interest in any risky activities. They had lost three children before I was born, so it makes sense that they would worry. Over the years, this led me to accepting my place in the world as an

I love this: "my passion for running has a lot to do with experiencing the world on foot and very little to do with finish times." Such an up-close and intimate way to experience Mongolia, the world. Surrounding you in white protective light and sending lots of love for the journey.

Hello! This is my first post for the 2018 Gobi March blog. Ideally, I would have started posting about training months ago, but truthfully I have been so focused on the training and race preparations that writing about all of it fell to the back burner.
