PostGobi March (2011) blog posts from David Carr

Just back from a weekend in the Cameron Highlands. Ran 23km in just under 3 hours, with the pack on and took in a 2300m volcano along the way. Pretty pleased, but concerned at how sore my legs were by the end - going to need to do some more weight training over the next few months.
So, after completing the Singapore 70.3 Ironman a couple of weeks ago, I figured it was time to turm my attention to doing a bit more training for this race! My buddy Will and I had an exciting day in the office when a large box arrived with 'Racing the Planet' down the side, and that weekend we did our first circuit of the FRIM (Foresty Research Institute of Malaysia) park route that we usually do on mountain bikes. It's a 15km loop with plenty of hills, hot and sticky and generally uncomfortable so not bad for training I imagine.
This blog is as much to remind myself to get some training done as for anything else. I shall be checking the other competitors to see if I can pick up some top tips on what to bring and what to leave at home. My lovely wife certainly won't let me leave home without sandwich bags and a roll of gaffer tape. Oh, and I read on the Atacama that several runners were shedding food during the race to save on weight. For anyone reading this who ends up doing this - please pass it to me first!! I'll happily carry it as lack of food is my number one fear on this whole thing.
Anyway, back to work. Have to knock off early today and get some miles in at the park this evening....
