I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for the Gobi. But then again, I've been always a type who would do it first and regret it later and feel so glad eventually...

I've just finished my first full course marathon a month ago (with 4 hrs 16 minutes) with a couple of unofficial full course and half marathons. With all the project and teaching schedules, it is so hard to find a consistent workout schedule.

So, during the mid-term exam, I went to a southern island in Korea and ran 136km in 3 days with a backpack. I ran "Olleh" courses, which are famous for their wide variety of terrains including mountain, beach, and pavement. It was my first time to run average 42 km in consecutive days. It was tough at the first day since there was a horrendous rainstorm all day and I had to go through a couple of uphill courses.

But when I approached the final distance in the third day, I actually wished I would run another day or two. Surprisingly I felt fine physically and I felt elated, observing and listening to all the things on the road for three days in that beautiful island.

I cannot imagine how exciting it would be if I can endure and enjoy the entire Gobi race.

Now that I have only 5 or 6 weeks at the most for a serious training, I plan to run with a 10kg back on a treadmill during weekdays and on nearby trails on weekends.

I would appreciate any training tips for a beginner without much time left for the race.

And I look forward making lots of great friends throught the race.

Happy trails.

Chan-ung, Hello ! I am also running the Gobi and will meet you in Urumqi. Those three consecutive days at 130+km - well done, fantastic effort. I probably don't have a lot of training tips to be honest. I'm a bit of a novice at this. For me, to date it has been a few days during the week on the treadmill, with some running on the weekends. The longest I have gone is 45km. This Sunday I plan to be out there for between 4-6 hours, so planning on my biggest run yet, in the back hills of Wonga Park and Warrandyte in Melbourne. I think everyone is getting a little excited - I certainly am. So much to organise but I'm sure I will get there. We will be coming from winter - pretty cold in Melbourne at the moment. Can't wait to get there and meet everyone. Enjoy the rest of your training. Remember - left..then right..then left..then right..then left....etc etc etc.. Deano
