Garrett - I, too, have discovered the wonderful world of Hammer Nutrition's Perpetuem, Recoverite and Endurolytes. In fact, about one-half of my caloric intake during the race will be from Perpetuem and Recoverite. During each stage I will have one bottle that contains a strong mix (6 -8 scoops) of Perpetuem. I will ration consumption from that bottle so that it lasts through the end of the stage. For the long stage I will do one bottle for the first half and one for the second. At the end of each stage I will immediately mix three scoops of Recoverite in water and drink that. For breakfast each day I will have an oatmeal/raisin bran mix and a Clif Bar. I will also have a blend of mixed nuts, beef jerky and potato chips upon which to feast. The weight of the "extra" food I will be packing is, in my opinion, well worth the effort it will take to carry it. I will be walking about one-half of the time, and stopping often to take pictures and shoot video, so speed is of little concern to me.

THE SILK ROAD

The journey within
has gone far,
but not far enough
into my Silky Road,
to uncover
my native greed,
lust, and
a vast loneliness,
as high as the Great Wall,
as desolate as the Gobi Desert,
as infinite as the 9999 rooms
hidden in the Forbidden City,
as mysterious as the emperors' tombs.
Into those dark
caves and alleys,
I search for the gem
that could
give light
to my sight
to see my inner city
of tranquility,
union, and joy,
lightening
the burdens of journey.
