Your earlier stages had me in a state of awe. So impressive. This last stage has me dumbfounded. You are strong, strong, STRONG! Your perseverance has been steadfast. Your awareness of your body’s limits and pace has been crucial to your success. You can, and will finish this race, as well as the remaining challenges. I’m sure of this! Keep your egoless, positive attitude, and smiles flowing! And don’t forget to let the power of the landscape carve deep impressions that will remain with you forever. It’s a beautiful and diabolical pain. Mother Nature is powerful too!

Stage 4 went relatively well today because it was pretty much all downhill. I could breathe much better and focus on the run. Although the course today was rated as easy, it really wasn

You know that question people ask you when you say you run for more than an hour? Oh my, what do you think about for that long?!! Well, I think so many people are enjoying your blog because you're answering the question people want to know most. While a huge part of you needs to have trained and prepared to be sitting where you are right now (in a hot tent smelling like a rubbish bin) but the bigger aspect that is letting you do what you are doing is your mind. I've heard people say that ultra running is 90% mental and then the rest is just all in your head. Well, I think you get it and would love to help chase demons with you! Atacama it it. And lastly, I just want to share a quote from Funk that made my day on the long march in Namibia. His words exactly... "I paid a lot of money... (long pause) ...to do three more of these!" I don't know if I was delirious but I laughed and laughed until my gut hurt and I know you'll find the humor in it as well. Keep it up and awesome work yesterday! - Jare

You can catch the girl in front of you. You are making steady improvement on the time difference. Now is the time to use a little iddy bit of your competitive spirit to push just a little when you can and level up. You have The power, this it what the hard work was all about. No pampering from me, sorry, not today. I want you to go faster and utilize the strength I know you have inside you. #BeProud

Hi Thanh! I know we only met for a short time in Namibia, but after reading your blog entries for this Gobi race, I felt compelled to let you know that you are an amazing, strong lady! I whole-heartedly agree that you must face your inner demons during these races, as you push yourself farther than you ever have before. It is good to face the darkness, knowing you will find light at the end and grow as a person. I still get very emotional sometimes when I think back to my experience at the Namibia race. And I think of you and the others from the Namibia race every time I go for a run in the Texas heat this week, and I hope you know how inspiring you are to those of us at home! Best of luck with the Long March tomorrow, and I can't wait to read about your experience! Veronica

So stage 3 is now in the bag.. I could go into details of how beautiful it was and how horrifyingly hard this stage was, but by now, you would have guessed these races are not supposed to be easy. There were more climbs again, not as high but enough to stall me and made me feel queasy gain. I really hope it was altitude-related. Otherwise, I may have a bigger problem.

Remember today as you caring forward. The pain and bad times don't last and high altitude down hill running may be one of the best feelings ever. Enjoy your down hill rides, the price of admission is a lifetime event. You are physically strong enough for this event. You will be able to manage as you always do. You can let your legs and mind go and everything is going to be Great Tomorrow should be nothing more than a Wednesday afternoon at the track, #ChangeHappens

Thanh!!! Nobody's ever asked my about my time from the last race so stop freaking out! Actually, better to come out enjoying the race than to have pushed too hard and hate it. I love the strategy game you play since I think it's a runners only game when you've got so much time in your own head. Very excited for you and look forward to more posts! I'm doing the distances here in Beijing as well but it's NOT the same experience at all. Soak it up and thank you for taking time to write us all. You put a lot of creativity into your writing especially considering that you've been working like a dog all day! E-hugs and e-high fives from Beijing! - Jare

Dear Thanh, In reading my son, Mike's blog I came across yours from yesterday and the tremendous struggle you had in finishing the stage. I was so impressed with your ability to overcome and use your favorite verse to encourage yourself. This journey will be one that will forever remind you that you are an overcomer! Next time yell louder to Mike, he'll hear you!

I experienced somewhat of a fall from grace today. I was 2nd

As your coach: Please, Do not change your nutrition schedule, eat and drink on time, hungry/thirsty or not. If they have garlic soup, it's great for altitude acclimatization. As your friend: Please don't make me cry for you on the first day.... Hughes & Best wishes to you my dear. Regardless, You are a hero to a nation #BeProud

Briefing and departing for camp: Everything flew by in a flurry. Yesterday flew by. By the time we finished dinner, it was already 9pm and it was still light out. The Sun rises at 5:30am and sets at 10pm here. Nic and I decided to test the drone for half an hour before it got locked into "No Fly Zone". In Beijing, we had the same issue and the drone could not take off. Hopefully, when we are out there in the desert, this would not be a problem. I passed out cold at around 10pm and when I opened my eyes, it was 8:59am. It was a good sleep, making up for the measles 3 hours I got the night before.

I thought.. traveling to Gobi should be the easiest journey as it is the closest in proximity to Vietnam but after three days on the road with very little sleep proved otherwise. A few delays caused my bags to go missing for a few hours and my friend/photographer's luggage arrived on another flight a day later. We had a small scare because the weather in Gobi is so extreme. It's not an easy place to deal with fully equipped let alone without anything. But luckily the luggage arrived in time before our early flight to Hami, Xinjian this morning.

We met Erik from Canada and Daniel from Mexico (who is also doing the Grand Spam this year) at the airport. Its always so nice to see familiar faces and talk to people who are also doing the race. It's like somehow we can all share the anxiety and anticipation. I'm not quite sure that I was happy to find out from Erik that in the past few days, the weather has ranged from 10 to 49 Celsius on the course in the past few days. Despite the fact that I live in a tropical country, 49 Celsius is b*tching! Now I'm thinking I shouldn't have left behind my Salomon waterproof jacket, which is a quarter of the weight of the North Face jacket that I brought. I hope I'm overthinking it..

Anyway, I'm feeling much better now that the race is starting soon. That always seems to happen. The nerves are unbearable two weeks leading to the race. I cried for five days straight last week.. Well, I was also grieving the death of a young pilot friend and the anxiety from the race amplified everything.. I'm excited to see friends again. Can't wait to give Jax, Mike and Mario big hugs!!

If you are reading this, wish me good weather ;p

Hello Thanh, Be strong! I was so excited with your journey. Traveling through Xin Jiang with my bicycle was one of the best memory in my life and Gobi was such an awesome place. Because you are the great Vietnamese woman, I believe that there is nothing can stop you. Love you and waiting for your coming news.

You so got this! You're amazingly tough - mentally and physically. I've seen that focus you exhibit when it's game time. You dig way down and channel that reserve of positive energy and strength. And you smile! It's all there waiting for you. Go get it!! I wish you the the best of weather, and I know you'll employ all those tricks and tips you've been learning in previous races. Don't overthink your decisions. Your instincts will guide you on the right path. Keep those smiles flowing...

How about using imagery ... When it's cold, visualize a cozy down comforter enveloping you. When it's hot, visualize air conditioned flight suit sending a breeze all over your body. The mind can play these wonderful "tricks" when we focus on the sensations the imagery calls forth. You can do it !!
