There are only so many times we can say well done but once again well done. We hope the enormity of what you have achieved is beginning to sink in and that you can now begin to appreciate your amazing achievement! Well done seems too mild a phrase for what you and the rest of the guys and gals did this past week. Look forward to seeing you very soon for a catch up xx

Really well done Nath. That stage sounds incredibly tough anyway, but chuck in the heat as well.... Can't believe it took you that long to get a blister though! So proud of you and you managed to meet all your targets with a bad ankle! What an achievement. Proud, proud, proud proud proud!! Xxx

Many congratulations Nathan. Incredible feat (or should that be feet?).

Stage 4 is now complete and what a stage. Started at the foothills of Tian Shan and it was quite cold in the morning. We then headed away from the mountains and onto then desert plains, proper Gobi Desert. Tough going as there was a lot of sharp stones underfoot, but I kept up a good pace. As the day wore on the temperature increased substantially. I ran with my head down for most of the first two stages to avoid the rocks, but then I looked up at the snow covered mountain and the scenery was stunning.

After checkpoint 3 I felt myself overheating so I started walking to cool down, I put the headphones in and zoned out, Cathie's ipod will get good use over the next few days. The course changed and we ran through a vine yard for a few miles before turning into a village, again the welcome from the locals is amazing and I wish we could do it more. I then ran past the support van and when they told me it was 2k to the finish line I 'literally'sprinted.

I am sick to death of energy bars and gels and freeze dried breakfasts, I really should have eaten a lot more of them before I cme out. Out on the course yesterday I day dreamed if peperoni pizza, today it was a simple ham sandwich, I am really looking forward to the winners banquet now.

Enough of that, I have one more day of pain before then, 80k and my plan was to run until 1pm and then walk when the temperature is at it's highest and then run again when the temperature starts to drop, I'm hoping to get in before sundown which would mean 13hrs on the course. Unfortunately my ankle has swollen up so I'll see how it goes tomorrow morning. Other than that I'm feeling good. Tomorrow I'll finish late so there may not be a blog entry from me until Friday.

Today I finished 27thin 5 hrs 15 minutes. Second ever marathon completed, bossed it.

Good to see the comments every day, as I said yesterday they really do lift the spirits.

Cheers

Nathan

No blisters??!! What the heck is your husband made of Estelle??!! Sounds an amazing experience (not one I would be keen to undertake myself mind you!) and I can' only imagine how good it must feel to finish each stage. I have really enjoyed reading the blog but I hope you don't mind me saying that reading about a bird flying into Rhys's stomach was the highlight coz, as they say, it made me lol! Best of luck for the finish.....I too am looking forward to seeing the pictures!

Hi Mate, I have been reading your blog each day and keeping up with Estelle's posts on FB!!! Not quite sure where the Welsh nationality comes from but something we can discuss on the golf course when you get back!! I always though Somerton and Somerset were in England!!! Truly amazing that you are 21st after Stage 4!! I promised to go onto your Charity website and pledge which I will do straight away. Both Tanya and I, wish you all the best over the coming days and take care. Truly inspirational and amazing!!!

Forgot to say, not to be outdone by the incredible experience you're having, Rhys also suffers a feat of human resilience yesterday.....he was in the garden and a bird actually flew into his stomach. Apparently the beak got him just above the belly button. We are still laughing about it and hope that you still have the strength after the long march to smile at that one. Xx

Hey Nath, Sounds like you're doing brilliantly mate. Keep smashing each challenge mother nature (and the Gobi March organisers) have put in your way. Sorry to read the food is becoming a bit of drag. If only you had packed the Pot Noodle. Though I have never taken part in such an endeavour, I like to think that I can empathise with your situation. Well, daydreaming about pepperoni pizza anyway. See you when you get back, all conditioned for the Wolf Run (what I assume you are using the Gobi march as a warm up for). Hugs and kisses Chris

Thought I add my comments as well as what Lesley says on our behalf. Been following your progress with great interest and I'm amazed at your resilience to push through each day, well done you. I've been drinking your health each day with a bottle of Hen and your beer bank is getting bigger by the day. Take care and enjoy the rest of the March.

Hey Nath, You are amazeballs!!! You're doing so so well, nearly there...each step takes you closer to that pizza :) You should be so proud. It sounds like you must be forgetting a little about the run (!!) with all the amazing scenery you get to see on the way. Cant wait to see the pictures. I ate 2 Wispas last night- I have guilt. Lots of love xxx

Just realised you have made no reference to blisters....never had a blister before and if you finish this unscathed you must surely be a medical marvel. I want a photo of your feet after Long March. Xxxx

You are looking strong Nath. Rhys liked the use of 'literally'! Everything crossed that the ankle holds out . Just keep thinking of the feast that Tamarind will prepare for you on monday! I know you wont read this till you've finished but one foot in front of the other- we are you with you in spirit every step of the way. Go super nath/super dad. You really are our hero xxx

Stage 3 complete and after a really good nights sleep I felt really good. So I thought I'll go for this, the legs were still a little sore but held up well through the descents into the rivers, the much promised river crossings didn't happen as there was no water. It was a fun first stage clambering over rocks and boulders and then onto the road for some proper running.

Running through the local villages is always great as the reception is amazing and the amount of photos on facebook, or the Chinese equivalent, I must appear in is vast. Then would you believe it, rain, what started as a light shower became a torrent. Stupidly I put my jacket on too late and I was wet and couldn't get warm as I was running. The last 12k I couldn't go any quicker and the finish line never seemed to appear. I managed to finish in 20thplace, taking just over 6 hrs. The last two stages were almost identical long undulating rocky plains, which makes progress really slow and it's hard on my ankles.

Thankyou to everyone who has made a comment the feedback is great for moral, especially on the tough days.

Really pleased with today, especially after yesterday when I was in lot of pain afterwards and could hardly place one foot in front of the other. I've survived another day and look forward to tomorrow, hopefully some sun and a warm bed at the end of the day.

I have to say the worst part of this whole experience is going to the toilet, it's the closest I've come to cramping up all trip.

I am now over half way through this crazy trip and I'll speak to you all after stage 4.

Nathan

Go Nath! We're all cheering you on state-side! :) As I struggle getting my 10,000 steps each day this week, I end up feeling extremely silly after reading your posts. I don't think you're having trouble meeting any fit-bit goals this week. Ha! Keep up the good work... You're truly an inspiration! I can't begin to imagine the mental and physical struggles you've been going through but, wow... What an amazing adventure! The stories of comradery are so lovely. Good luck in these last stages. -molly

I misread 'cramping' to begin with......! You're doing amazingly well, and as we said at football last night, those Yate training runs did their job! Everyone I see is asking after you and we're all a little obsessed with reading updates- me in particular! So proud of you. can't wait to hear how stage 4 went and then long march- steady Eddie for that and hope you get your rest day. Almost there! Love you x

Nathan you are doing amazingly well and the support for you back here is unbelievable. The shame is I am not sure you are able to read all the posts on Facebook! You must be very proud of your achievements thus far as we all are here at home. Keep up the fantastic work! 20 out of 163, amazing. Good luck for the rest of the challenge from us both x

Afternoon All,

The morning started as yesterday had finished, driving snow. The course started with a 500m elevation change straight up in ankle deep snow, not running at all, more mountaineering. The highlight for me was catching the female leader at the top of the climb. Safe to say she left me for dust as soon as we could properly run.

Then a descent into the valley along the river, more photos with the locals. Once out of the mountains the temperature changed and the scenery became more desert like. A long trawl along undulating dirt tracks brought us to camp 3.

The constant changes in elevation were not good for the legs and I'm a bit sore. Shoulders are still complaining!

Today I finished 34th in a time of 6hr 10 minutes.

Tomorrow we stay in the valley all day for 27 miles.

Will write again after I'm finished

Afternoon All,

We drove 2 hours yesterday to the official start line, and what a welcome by the local population, so many requests for photographs left us feeling like we were local celebrities, going to the toilet took 15 minutes as the route was full of families requesting photos with their children, who were all excited to see us, whilst we were unpacking there was traditional songs and dancing. The real stuff started in the morning.

First stage complete and I really enjoyed today, we started off at an altitude of
