TRAINING PAYS !
This is another marathon under my belt and this one is a very good one. Finished the 42km in 6h14min. Knowing that I have my house on my back, 120km in the legs and rough terrain, I am very very happy with the stage. I have run the "last"27km because walking was really not comfortable. A bit like yesterday, right knee and left calf. So I quickly moved to small steps and progressively went faster until I started running almost without noticing it (really). Small small steps, about 7min per km and here I came in, in 50thposition. This is exactly how I have been training. Leigh, I need to thank you for introducing me to Journey Fitness Company. All the very slow long runs I have done after my tests with them made my day today !
Terrain was fairly easy, a long slow downslope in a more or less straight line. You could almost see a CP from the other one in the distance. Lots of small flat rocks and mini-river beds. I guess the whole place is like a giant river when the snow melts (like the real one from the winter, not the one we had on Day 1). And for the finish, a small village, grapes and the Xinjiang brick dryers. Camp is in the middle of some of these all dryers. Really nice. And, oh I forgot, it is very hot and we had no rain. I did not suffer too much from the temperature though and could experience a bit more of the front runners conditions : you pick your spot in the tent, you have time to rest, eat, relax, rest again, eat again and wait for the others.
Tomorrow is another day. 80km. that's twice what we did today. I hope I did not overdo it today but I don't think so. And to prepare for this tonight, I have Chicken Tikka plus a Custard with Apple for desert.

End of day 2. Tough day, I really struggled to finish the last stretch of the leg but not that bad after all as I finished in 69thposition, well into the first half 1!
It all started with the sun in the yourte village until 5 minutes before the briefing when it started snowing again. So went off under the snow in a very very steep part going up a pass. Snow everywhere and big snowflakes falling. Beautiful. Then it was all down for sth like 35 km. I had a good walk until CP 2 with Peter, a chap from BBC. We talked about the vision and ambition of the BBC and more generally journalism and then we went through all his crazy sport achievements and challenges. This took us a very long and pleasant time.
After CP2 I was all on my own. I probably did a small mistake of running for about 1 hour between CP3 and CP4 and had absolutely no energy for the last stretch. Lesson learned for tomorrow.
We are now in a Uighur village, we'll be sleeping on kang beds tonight and the temperature is back to normal and as expected. Stretching time now.

In short in English, we had snow and very strong wind. Very very cold stage but all in all I am quite happy with the way it went. Slow start, but I picked up after 1/3rdand started catching up people. Big blister treated by the doctors. Probably another cold night and day tomorrow and after it should be better !

This was a long journey from Singapore to Chengdu then Urumuqi and a train ride to Hami. 20 hours door-to-door.

In early October 2014, i was highly recommended by doctors to undergo heart surgery for a wolfparkinsonwhite syndrome that had just "waken up". In a few dark moments, I saw everything dark and a future life with no sport and maybe other disabling consequences.
