How was the first phase / trek of the race?

Strategically placing each item from my equipment list across the entire surface of my bed not only made me realize how small my bed is, it finally put into perspective the great amount of thought and effort that has gone into planning this adventure. Friends think I've gone mental, colleagues are discussing who will replace me should I fall victim to a stampeding herd of yaks. Meanwhile I'm stressing out about my freeze dried mac and cheese weighing considerably more than the other menu option, freeze dried Denver omelet.

Isn't it weird looking at a week's worth of 'food' only to realise there's very little actual food there!...my bag is full of odd powder's a potions..can't wait. See you in China.
