Weather is perfect.

People here are as nice as you can imagine.

Ready to roll.

Like they say in French, the only thing left to do is :

Il fait beau, la mer calme ...ferme ta gueule pis rame.

One week from the start.

Are we ready ?

Yes of course.

Usain Bolt will look slow compare to us.

No country for the old men team will run like a speedy camel.

However, to be conviced , for final preparation,  I will run the Burlington Marathon  on May 26 th.

It will be my 12 th consecutive  Vermont City Marthon.

This year, it is very special, one of my kid , Vincent will run with me for his first marathon ever.
Or course.... I'll let him win for his first big race.

After the race , jump in the car , quick shower, back in the car to the airport ...direction:  Bole, China.

Like a famous wrestler from Québec ( Edouard Carpentier )  use to say: Ça va faire mal mes amis.

While we are piling up the miles through  tough winter runs .... we are preparing our strategy for Gobi.

Packing will be critical for effective running and optimizing the weight for Gobi.

As an engineer, we always  want to optimize things...

Every Friday night  for the last 3 months I making scenario of packing and moving parts from the left pocket to the right pocket....and back to the left pocket.

This Friday, my wife told me officially that I was crazy.

2 hours every Friday , for the last 3 months, I don't know what she means.

In any case maybe I misunderstood  her  and she meant she was turning crazy.

The good news is,  we only have 10 Fridays to go before the start of the race.

Packing should ready by then...

Training for Gobi is one thing.
Training for Gobi in winter in Montreal is one thing plus a little something.
We had our first snow storm saturday december 15 and another one today december 18.
Winter is not started  yet (officially December 21 st ) and long runs are getting everything out of us.

Cold , Snow, Wind  and Darkness are great to get  all the mental toughness we need.

In fact we might be ready for Antartica, before our time if winter stays like that.

Today, just tried new running shoes with winter spikes..Awesome.

If you add :
Couples of Hot Shots ( new 8 hours , extra long ), some creative  way of  packing bottles of water to prevent from frezing, dry clothes to change at mid point in  the long run, and all type of '' tuque'' for all windy conditions....
Everyting is like in summer, the rest is just in our head.

06 November 2012 02:14 am (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time(US & Canada)

On October 6 th 2012, we went in beautiful Idaho to run the Yellowstone Teton race.
The 50 miles started in Montana and finshed in Driggs, Idaho. Some other very courageous people has done the 100 miler starting in west Yellowstone.

Beautiful scenic view along all 50 miles. Cold at the beginning and at the end ,but  it was a good place to start training for Gobi 2013.

The organization was fabulous.

Thanks to Jay and Lisa Batchen.

Great  place , and great people.

Congratulations! :-D I wanted to do that one myself, but there was just no way to swing it. Maybe we'll have recovered enough from China to be able to do it next year? Happy training! kim
