Today I hit the "long run" playlist on my ipod for the last time before the race.  Four hours later, while peeling the ticks off one by one (thought I'd never get them all at the rate it was going) I realized that I had learned something new thing about myself on the trail today.  So while I was not very excited to head out this morning, it proved worthwhile.

This is the part I like least about the races - the time between "now" and "the start".  While I still have so much to do (how my pack is getting heavier as I discard things is still a bit of a head scratcher), the fact of the matter is that things are pretty much what they are at this point.  My main amigo has already left for the race and my other dear amigo leaves soon.  Until we all meet up in Beijing, it's all going to feel a little "meh". 

Still have to kiss my wife goodbye.  Still have to say goodbye to my blood brother.  But for the most part, it's the time between "now" and "the start" and finding out if what I learned about my soul today is really true.  Or if it was just all that tick venom.

The anticipation, butterflies, the unknown- that is almost the best part so savor and enjoy it! Sorry I sewed weights into your pack- thought that would be funnier.

Weighed my pack again today - too heavy!  31 pounds while my best compadre has his down to 20...hope he has spare room so my other compadre and I can sneak extras into his.  Will be cutting every ounce all week.  Or bring my beagle along to carry an extra rucksack.
