Stage 1 is done, I am pleased to report! But i was dehydrated and had a nasty bout of nausea. Extra salt tabs did the trick and I finished, not the last! The scenery was amazing and we stay in proper homes tonight at a village. We sleep on carpeted floors which is luxury for us poor folks used to the rocky floors of our dirty tents..

Cheers,

Shri

Hello everybody! Signing in from the Gobi Desert, Camp 1 - Gazi!

I was super organized this time, thanks to a wonderful husband, Swami who sewed my patches (again!), stayed up all night to pack my race stuff and is now home looking after our precious children. Cut my pack weight by 2 kilos - it didnt show up in the official weighing but i am convinced its wrong. Changed some things this time:

No crocs, no camera, not as many clothes and a lot more snacks for the course.

Getting away from home was hard this time - my 5 year old daughter said she didnt want me to go and my son hurt himself baddly playing rugby the day before i was to leave and was in hospital getting stitches. I asked myself, what sort of mother would leave for a desert run in this situation? It looked bd whichever way I looked at it. So, being a good psychologist, i reframed the question. What do i need to do to justify my leaving? THere's only one answer to that question - I have to give it all i've got.

All I want to say that I am ready for the Gobi. Thanks to everyone who encourage and support me.

Thank you Swami - I wouldnt be here without you.

Thank you Katya and Rahul - despite being children, you've so generously let me go do my thing.

Thats it for now - next post hopefully from camp 2!

We are all proud of you, and want you to give your best and complete the race. Katya asks you to run faster to come home sooner :). She is loving the dragon book you got her at the airport and we are doing one chapter a day, to keep it going until you return, she says this is the funniest book ever. Rahul is playing Master of Puppet in school today, this got advanced from Friday. He is super excited about this. Glad to hear the backpack is light and you are able to access stuff that you need easily. Enjoy the race, will be watching the updates
