Gobi March (2012) blog posts from Marko Loubser

17 June 2012 09:52 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Im sitting here at Beining Intl Airport waiting for my last flight home..im just filled with so many memories and emotions from the last week, its unbelievable. Firstly, a HUGE thank you to everyone that supported, followed my blog, and left comments along the way. I cant tell what it felt like getting to the cyber tent after each stage to read the comments...competitors shedding tears when reading a message, and left a lump in my throat on most days!! The Gobi March was tough, both mentally and physically...being prepared made it an enjoyable challenge, one I'll never forget. Out on the course there were no fake people...no fake attitudes. The event peeled back the layers and exposed each competitor for who they truly are, and you know what?? All are exeptional people with a variety of different backgrounds, meeting in a little known part of the world to go and lay it all on the line. No prize money or mass media attention, just a huge common camaraderie and the will to still push oneself to a personal limit. Im never going to forget watching competitors cross the finish line...when last did you see someone act with a real sense of accomplishment?? Someone break down with tears after giving everything they have for 6 days?? To watch Hutch, a 72 year old wild eyed American who just did his 3rd Gobi. A 62 year old Japanese warrior who literally shuffle stepped his through most days because he was in so much pain. When asked, he apparently replied in Japanese "I'll never f&$@ing surrender". Thats the kind of guy i want to have a beer with!! Talking to most of the people i have the last few days, i realise how much i still need get done in this short life of mine! Have i found a new passion in the ultra running?? You bet. There is just no mental and physical challenge like it. Full stop. And id you were wondering, yes i am already thinking about my next challenge.

Morning all!!  Typing error from yesterday, in case you thought I was super human...should have been sub 12hr and not 10hr!!  Trying to sleep last night was tough..it felt as if someone was pulling my legs apart at the knee.  Took Myprodol, which didnt help either.  Had a few blisters drained, ate a packet of biltone, and climbed into the sleeping bag.  I did manage though to get a few hours in and woke up at 0900 this morning.  Got up without any pain at all, feet feel good and the legs are good to go again.  What an amazing campsite we have for today...a green field with huge trees providing shade and an incredible view of the mountain range in which the gigantic, and formidable, K2 lies (I think this is the mountain that has claimed the most lives of mountain climbers).  Normally you would be arrested for being this close to the border, but I dont really understand...what am I going to do, climb K2 to get out?????  The sun is out and everyone is out and about, letting feet get some air and dried out.  Today will consist of...absolutely nothing!!  Beautiful.  Just eating, sleeping, and pretty much doing anything you want (except climbing K2 to cross the border).

What i really love about the group of people here is that you can have professional runners and your 'average joe' staying in the same tent and getting to know each other.  Obviously thats about it because you definitely wont be running with them!!  The best thing about all the runners?  Absolutely zero egos...everyone just seems so easy to get along with.  I think doing a race like this just provides a common ground that overcomes everything else.  Really enjoyable.

I still have a few freeze-dried meals to get through.  Thats been the toughest thing out of all the days!  So the label reades 'Sweet and Sour Chicken'....tastes like wet cardboard.  The label reads 'Oats with Strawberry'...Yes!!....tastes like wet cardboard.  So I think you get the idea and all it has been is a case of getting calories in.  Last night was my first real treat and I had a packet of biltong which i saved specifically for after the Long March.  Words will never describe.  Note to self:  Never buy the same brand of freeze-dried meals again.  Next time its vacuum packed T-bone steaks, the wifes curry, biltong, ice-cream, etc.  Yeah right.

Just a word on some kit I brought with:  Bought the Suunto Ambit which Ive really put through its paces through the Gobi.  Awesome watch which has all the bells and whistles...GPS, Alti, Baro, Temp, Heart Rate, Calories burnt etc and the battery life is excellent.  My iPod....saved me yet again.  To keep these two charged i brought along the Solar Monkey Adventurer which is a solar powered charger...amazing piece of kit and charges electronics up in no time.

Right, I will be off to enjoy some more wet cardboard.  Tomorrow is the last day, and while its going to be great finishing the Gobi, I already get the sense that when all this suddenly ends there will be a slight void.  Kind of hard to explain??  Regardless,  Im looking forward to seeing my wife and friends again.  Just as important, Im living life the best way I know how...getting out there and pushing myself to, and sometimes past, my limits.  Im sitting here with the sun on my back and a huge smile on my face.

High fives to all!!

15 June 2012 05:31 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Where to begin?!  Well the morning started off with a 2hr bus ride to the start point of the Long March.  Off we set and I just had no energy..a tad bit of panic sets in when Ive run around 1km and still have 75 plus km's to go.  I just took it easy and kept a nice steady pace up until around 20 plus km's when things fall in place and I feel everything feeling much better.  Im not going to lie when I tell a lot of the run is blurred at the moment....I literally just threw my stuff down and came to type the blog.  I do know that I've never ever...EVER pushed myself as hard as i did today.  I achieved a small goal that i wanted to try get today, and that was a sub 10hr on the long march.

My feet are buggered.  Full stop.  Haha....they're gonna need some recovery time.  The legs too.  Today was without a doubt one of the toughest days Ive experienced, but the training came through and its done.  As ive finished in today I can sleep peacefully and have the whole of tomorrow off.  Im going to need it!!

Id have to see how i feel tomorrow but the whole last stretch was quite a whole basket of mixed up emotions....weird to describe.  I just pushed real hard...but now Im all smiles.

One more short day and then its home.  Ice cold water...all i want is ice cold water.

Much love to everyone...

EEEEIIIIIINNNNNAAAAA!!  Remember how i described yesterdays route?  Well, the hills were much steeper today...hahaha.  Ja, they're thrashing us properly.  Course was actually better than i found yesterdays...weird but i seem to do a bit better with the hills.  Today we had some river crossings which were unavoidable...so i do it the only way i know how and walk in shoes, gaiters and all.  That sudden feeling of cold water up to my knees was amazing...I actually stood there a while to enjoy it before heading out.  In the first part of the course we got to climb up to Heavens Gate, which is a huge naturally eroded hole in the mountain side...the view through this hole was pretty special to be able to see.  Come do the Gobi to understand ;))

My feet are not in the best shape, but Ive done prevention where possible and patched up where needed.  The worst is getting them warmed up, which is cool because then the pain goes.  Its just like being on cycle again...yippeeee!  Tomorrow is going to be a pretty long day, but i dont think there will be as many hills as the previous two days.  I hope.  Pretty please.

Was looking forward to reading the comments, couldnt wait to get into camp.  You all rock!!  Thanks so much.

Hey Lovey, hows things in the Weskus??  All i can say right now is biltong....and lots of it!! dankie vir die boodskappe, means a lot.  Love you always xx

Cheers peeps, will catch up tomorrow after the Long March!!!

Looking at some of the pics it must be flippen hard not to stop, just enjoy the scenery and want to freeze the moment! Thank you for the Gobi 'window', am loving the view ;) I guess you are now in the most exciting phase of project management! “Courage isn't having the strength to go on - it is going on when you don't have strength.” ― Napoleon Bonaparte Sterkte met die laaste "stretch" van die Gobi. Gee gas!

12 June 2012 05:20 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Gobi, oh Gobi!!  So they said today was going to be a ‘moderate’ day which will consist of an incline most of the stage.  It turned out to ‘difficult’ and pretty technical with an incline the WHOLE stage.  We have finished off today at around 2500m above sea level.  I won’t lie, it was pretty brutal and consisted of…wait for it…hills, very steep hills with rocks, rocks, very very steep hills with rocks etc. For the guys that I served with, you remember Jack’s Pass during Minor Tac??  Well its that for most of the day.  That went on for 5hrs 53min.  The feet are tender and I’m trying to do as much prevention and damage control as possible.

It appears I’m pretty strong with all these hills and caught up to a couple of competitors which were much farther ahead on the level ground.  It’s great to see progress!!  Felt pretty strong most of the day and just towards the end the fatigue monster hopped on my back and insisted on going with to the end of the stage.

Apparently tomorrow is rated ‘difficult’ which means much worse than today….ja don’t worry, we’re all laughing this side as well!!

Some competitors have dropped out, and you can’t help but feel for them.  And then those that come in the last hours of each stage, the mental battle that they are having must just be epic!!  High fives to them for continuing to throw one foot in front of the other..

The best part of today (apart from finishing the stage) was reading the comments…can’t explain how much it means here, being the only contact to friends and family.  Thanks again, it means a lot…and keep them coming!!!

Time to go stretch my legs, they’re huuuuuuuurrrrrtttiiinnnnggg!!!!

Great progress Marko! Amazing! Hope today was not too brutal....Good luck for the long stretch tomorrow.

11 June 2012 05:16 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Wow, what a day!  Started off with 25km of hills and rock, hills and rocks, rocks, rocks, and more hills and rocks!!  My feet were thrashed by the time the terrain evened out a bit..scenery was amazing today and cruising between canyons and the red rock was great.

Learnt a huge lesson from yesterday..paced myself much better today and felt really strong the whole run.  Felt great.  I think I pushed a tad bit hard yesterday and didnt feel too good afterwards.  Today the legs just felt like going and going.  Had quite a punishing downhill section towards the end and that went well as well.

We are now camped out in an open field and the heat has picked up a tad from previous days.  Not Abu Dhabi heat..but warm!!

Ive learnt so much in these first two days with regards to how I should manage throwing close to 100kg (pack included) of me around the Gobi.  I actually caught up to some guys that were far ahead of me yesterday...I think I managed my pace through the hills and crappy terrain pretty well.

I'm having fun pushing myself..I always do, and am looking forward to tomorrow!  I guess putting in all those hours in training is paying off, thanks again Ian!!

High fives to everyone!

10 June 2012 05:51 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Day 1 ended up being around 32km due to rising levels in the river...but regardless, it was pretty humbling and got my feet firmly on the ground again (no pun intended!).  started off with a few steep climbs and then levelled out and we eventually hit the riverbed.  If you didnt have long legs then you feet probaby got wet, so i was pretty lucky and could jump across the streams.  pretty good going until the final 10km which was just a gradual climb with a headwind....my quads were almost cramping up and i started backing off, which was the best decision.  i think it was a good day, i just need to be careful of not going to fast and slow things down!!!

we are staying in villagers huts this evening so at the moment we are in the town square and the attraction for all the locals.  Its pretty warm now but shoul cool down as the sun sets.

Very rocky and dry terrain...some guys already have pretty bad blistered feet.  Im still good.

Havent been able to read any of your comments yet, they still need to connect to the internet here. I will check later again.

Thanks again for all the support, its great reading all the messages!!

So finally settled in at camp 1....I wont lie, the mud huts, terrain, even the people, look like the area of northern Afghanistan!!  Bad flashbacks!!!  We are 10 in a tent and I have a previous men and womans winner in the tent.  The weather is windy and quite cool...nothing like back home.  If it stays like this then it will definitely help with each days running.

We had a welcoming 'talent' show here from some of the villagers which was kind of like watching the worst auditions from Americas Got Talent.  The singing consisted of women lipsyncing what sounded like a cat going through a wood chipper.  I was crying with laughter!!  Great start.

The sun sets at around 2300 here so hold thumbs for me trying to fall asleep.

Will update after tomorrows stage..  Laters!!

Dont know what time i got to sleep this morning...the combo of almost zero sleep with the flying and the race anticipation is a brutal cocktail!! Had the competitor briefing and did kit check. You know you have enough food when the doc looks at ur 7 day supply and says "you'll be okay mate!". Haha...i had a laugh. For now. Will be having lunch soon and then heading out to camp 1 where we will stay for the night and then start tomorrow morning at around 0800. Tomorrow is around 42km...of rocks and river crossing. Much love to all!! Oh yes...the weather is lovely!! Training in the UAE has its advantages!!

So everything is pretty much sorted out now, and my pack feels (and does) weigh a ton. The bulk of that would be the food...I guess carrying a bit heavier might be worth it, but the load will lighten as the time goes on. Right now it feels as if the seconds have become hours...really just want to get the hotel now and start getting essential admin and check-in done. Can you say 'anxious'??!! Appreciate all the good wishes, thanks to everyone. Will keep updating as often as I can. Marko

31 May 2012 03:35 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

So close now!! Just a few more short runs and before I know it I'll be 'over there'!! Super excited and above the test and adventure that is awaiting I'm really keen for the learning experience...things that I'll will take with me as I feel this ultra distance running 'thing' sink its teeth into me... No pains, sprains, bruises, and well over 1000km done in training. Testament to training properly, nothing else. Maybe good genes? (Thanks Dad). It does kind of feel weird all of a sudden the reduction in running hours with the taper towards the race. I almost feel guilty, like I'm cheating on the program...but Ian knows best and what the 'Wizard' says, I do! Simply keep the legs ticking over and let the body recover fully. I'm most definitely going to need it for what's lying ahead. Good times. I'm gonna be looking to do the Attacama Crossing in Chile, which will be in March next year if anyone is interested. No sarcasm at all...it'll be something you'll never forget. Promise. I can smell roast chicken coming out of the kitchen...Monique (my wife) is simply amazing. Don't know of many people that would have given me this constant support that she does. Never, ever asked me why I do the stuff I do. Much love and high fives!! Laters! That chicken is calling...

So I haven't been on the blog for a while...I won't apologize because I've been putting litres of myself into this damn hot and humid desert sand! What a journey this has been so far...physically and mentally. I've in this headspace before and all I can say is I love it. Nothing makes me feel more alive than pushing myself to what sometimes seems the edge...but then finding you can go past that mark most times. I had my last long run the weekend, which was an 8hr haul that I kind of had to start around 0100 in the morning before the heat picked up. I am now tapering off towards the Gobi and sorting out all the last tiny details. I just love the thought of doing the 250km self supported, nothing like doing things under your own steam right?? I hope this message finds all competitors (and supporters!!) injury free, confident in the training they've put in, and happy...knowing that you're making the most of life! I'll will make a note of being on the blog more regularly now as the Gobi approaches. Already getting butterflies...but I'll let them fly around freely, coz it's a good feeling ;)) Laters!!

Great to see my peeps on the blog!! Thanks so much for following and the support, its part of what makes this that much more special. Had a short run this morning, i'll have a few more of these up until i fly on the 7th June. Legs and body are feeling great and i can only give Ian (my coach at Personal Best) high fives for the program he is putting me through. All these km's done in training and the only niggle i had was an ITB that lasted a few days. I guess if you want to do something properly then it doesnt hurt to ask from someone with the knowledge. I'm learning so much and i know that learning curve never ends. Lekker man, love to all!

12 April 2012 11:42 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

So haven't been updating my blog for a while, I guess I've just been wrapped up in training! Had a great week that consisted of a 3hr, a 6hr, a 5hr, and this morning another 3hr. These runs have been on consecutive days and are a basis for simple 'race simulations'. The heat and humidity are climbing weekly here in Abu Dhabi, but as uncomfortable as it can get, I know it's going to pay off for the race conditions we'll be facing in the Gobi. I'm finding my recovery rate is improving really fast... by the the day of the 5hr run my thighs had a bit of muscle damage, but the run went very well. This morning I woke up feeling quite fresh, and after the run I feel like I haven't done much running at all! Great indicators that the training is going in the right direction.. Nutrition and rest are so important in the overall scheme for recovery. And recovery is what it's all about!! Mentally I'm in a really good place, and with my iPod playing, I find I can hold many interesting conversations with myself when a run gets a bit boring ;)) I hope this message finds all fellow trainees in as high spirits as I am, injury free, and enjoying the Gobi journey... ONE LIFE. LIVE IT.

Great work on the training Marko! You sound like you have been ramping well in the heat. Not so hot here in Toronto but the hot yoga is keeping me as ready as possible! See you in the desert.

Posted On: 15 Apr 2012 02:16 pm

Definitely!! I guess a person can't always choose the perfect weather for training, but as long as you are getting the necessary km's and time on the feet then a person should be fine. I hope you get some really hot and humid days...haha! Looking forward to seeing you at the Gobi!

Posted On: 15 Apr 2012 08:54 am

Great training Marko! Although Singapore is not as hot as Abu Dhabi, the weather here is supposed to be hot and humid. However, I have often been training in the rain except for a few occasions. How I "envy" the hot weather that you have gone through. I do count myself fortunate to be able to gradually experience the hot weather, probably starting in the stormy rain and progress towards hot sun. I hope that my next 5-day run programme (27 Apr) can be somewhat near to the temperature that we would expect in Gobi. As what you mentioned, training in supposed to simulate the actual conditions that we will face in June. Keep up the training, and see you in June!

03 March 2012 01:58 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Winter is definitely starting to leave us desert dwellers here in Abu Dhabi! This morning was relatively warm with some humidity and I could see my sweat rate (which is normally high anyway) has picked up. Keep an eye on that hydration! Training is going well and the time really seems to be going by quickly now...99 days left to the Gobi??? Already??? Hope this message finds everyone injury free!! ONE LIFE. LIVE IT.

18 February 2012 04:58 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Hi to everyone! So today did a 45km with pack here in Abu Dhabi. The last two days there has been a mini sandstorm pushing through here with pretty high winds. When I looked out the window this morning when I got up I knew it was going to be one of 'those' days again! Mind over matter it would be then, and if I can take any positive out of the weather was that it helped the sweat evaporate pretty quickly! Other than that I ate sand most of the way.....good prep for 'the worlds windiest desert' I wondered?? Haha... Noticed how much sand was in my socks, I get this on most runs but today was special. Time to get those gaiters... A bit of a morale booster for the day was hearing that Ryan Sandes (winner of all 4 Deserts), a fellow South African, broke the record at the Hong Kong 100 by around 2hrs! Ryan you legend..... Note to self: You have nothing to complain about, no matter how hard it gets!! Hope this blog finds everyone injury free, bursting with positivity, and loving life!! Time to go drink some more water.... :))

Here is a review of the Rough Country Gaitors which you might find helpful. I'm still trying to decide what to go with, http://fixingyourfeet.com/blog/2012/01/rough-country-gaiters-–-a-review/.

Posted On: 19 Feb 2012 06:08 pm

Hey Lee, damn...0 degrees, not ideal! But as long as the km's are getting ticked off that's what counts. I haven't decided yet which gaiters to go with but will definitely have a look at the Raidlight ones, thanks for the info. My shoes pretty much have sand in them permanently now, no matter how much I wash them. Good thing is I haven't had any problems with my feet, even with the sand. But this isn't the best practice and i will be getting those gaiters soon! Take care!

Posted On: 19 Feb 2012 06:05 am

Hi Marko, sounds like you had a good run. I did 42.5 yesterday at nearly 0 degrees not ideal for the race. I bought some raidlight gaitors which I can really recommend although I would like to know which you decide seeing as you actually have sand to deal with. Cheers Lee

31 January 2012 06:20 am (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Had a good 35km run over the weekend, I have found that I definitely prefer bitter tasting drinks, gels, etc. The sweet stuff just gets 10 x sweeter and definitely makes me more thirsty. A 17km speed run yesterday (gotta include the speedwork!) and that went well as well. Happy with the training progress so far. Hope everyone is well!!

Did a good 30km run today, but I won't lie, my legs were definitely feeling it the last few km's. Good to see the running fitness is picking up, and extra glad that the flu (touch wood) is finally gone. Just did some chicken on the Weber, coupled with potatoe salad (hugs to the wife!)......ah, the small things ;) Hope everyone is well... ONE LIFE. LIVE IT.

Hi, I am still not sure 100% on my training plan, right now I am doing 3 medium and 1 long run a week with 12 kg pack. Any ideas?

Posted On: 29 Jan 2012 09:45 am

Hi Marko, sounds like your training is coming along nicely. Interesting to hear about your training schedule. It is easy to become too enthusiastic in the early days of training and with the subsequent injury to come! Slowly does it, at least for now!

Posted On: 21 Jan 2012 02:52 pm

Hey Robbie... No, no set times for the race at the moment. I do keep an eye on my pace, I try to hang around 9km/h but if I'm doing some short runs (around 10km or 15km) then I will up my pace. I've never been a natural runner, so it's something I find I really need to work on. So yes, I also concentrate on keeping the pace pretty slow, keeping in mind the distances that need to be covered on the race on consecutive days. Good to hear things are going well your side!

Posted On: 21 Jan 2012 06:19 am

Marko sounds like a good day. Have you set a time you're hoping to complete the race in and are you tracking your pace during training? I have to keep telling myself not to run too fasts as I build up the kms. So far so good :-)

18 January 2012 12:54 pm (GMT+04:00) Abu Dhabi, Muscat

Took an easy 18km run yesterday after the flu and decided to give my OMM Classic 32 race pack its baptism of fire. I have been using a Camelbak Tri-zip (amazing pack from Camelbak, however definitely not designed with 'lightweight' in mind) which I will still be using as a training pack. The OMM is obviously much lighter but the challenge now is being able to keep the weight up as high as possible. The OMM is a very flexible pack where the Camelback has back support and decent restraining straps built inside. Where the Camelbak would give me a slight (never bothering me) chafe on the lower back, the OMM left no chafe at all. Nice...that's what I said! Just a few homemade adjustments and the OMM should be good to go. Compared to the Camelbak, which had extremely rugged and strong stitching and workmanship, the OMM seems so flimsy and I kept expecting the shoulder straps to tear off!! O ye of little faith ;)) I'm sure it won't last for as many km's as the Camelbak...but they're not designed for long term. Overall, very happy so far. Keep smiling people...and enjoy (or try?!) them lonely km's !! Laters!!

Hey Robbie.... Yes, definitely changes a persons running style. I guess the trick is finding what works best for you, and it pretty much boils down to trial and error and testing things practically. All the best with the training! Hi Lee.... I would imagine that hanging around the 12kg mark, but in the next month or two I will hopefully be able to adjust on that. So far been training with around 10kg's, and will push that up over time and do some runs with 15kg. Doing my own training, the most important obviously being that I get the amount of km's in each week that I need to.

Posted On: 19 Jan 2012 05:55 am

I've been training with 10-11kgs in a basic not competitive pack which has been interesting to say the least. This is my first event of this kind (never done a marathon either) and I didnt realise the impact it has on your running style. Following lots of research online and speaking to many people in outdoors shops i chose the aarn 33 marathon magic. very light and the front pockets are fantastic to help your stability and posture. very different to having everything in the rear. Front pockets hold about 3 - 4 kgs and are perfect for water bottles, gels

Posted On: 19 Jan 2012 03:40 am

Hi Marko, what weight are planning your race pack being and how much do you plan to train with? Also did you get your training plan online or made it your self? Cheers Lee

Been down for around a week with the flu. Hating every day I can't be out there training! Need to listen to my body (something I don't normally do) and rest it out. Stay positive people, have fun out there!

Hi everyone! So busy running in a pair of Salomons XA Pro 3D Ultra (1 size bigger) and so far can't complain. Busy finding out where the heat spots are developing and the right shoe's tongue has been fighting with my ankle. Great support and feedback offroad. So far very happy... Let's see how many km's they'll last!

Hey Tristan...no, actually the Salomons are a good fit for me. I don't have a very broad foot, so it's ok. I think if I strap my feet up that added padding should fill them up nicely. Empty quarter is beautiful! And the weather is still 'user friendly' !! Enjoy it bro..

Posted On: 01 Jan 2012 06:17 pm

Thanks for your encouraging comment. Marko, do you find the Salomon narrow? BTW, in Abu Dhabi now for a short break. Doing some walking up the dunes in the empty quarter whilst the wife is having a spa! Ah, married life!

Firstly, a hello to everyone that will be taking part in the Gobi March 2012.. Training has begun, and by the time it nears June, the weather here in Abu Dhabi will have started warming up nicely again! This will be my first 4 Deserts event and I'm really looking forward to the personal challenge that awaits. Im sensing there's quite a few new people this event who will be doing the race for the first time which is great! Living in Melbourne it's warm now but when I get to kashgar I will be leaving winter and days where the top temp is about 12 degrees. My plan is to arrive a few days early so I can do some kms in the heat.... Hope that helps

Posted On: 29 Dec 2011 01:44 pm

Tristan and Suan Lam...great hearing from you!! Had a great festive period, not forgetting about the km's that need to be added up though! Training is going well and I'm just keeping focused and positive. Hope all is well that side, and have an excellent exit to the current year and entry in the new year! Safe running!

Posted On: 19 Dec 2011 04:31 am

Marko, great positive blog - keep it up! It is my first 4 Deserts as well and really looking forward to it. I, like Suan, also live in Singapore. But I think you have training edge over us as you have desert heat to train in, we have 85% humidity! Have a wodnerful holiday season (I am actually celebrating NYE in Abu Dhabi so might see you around!). Cheers, Tristan
