Well I really , really , really don't won't to write this and wish I could just crawl In a whole, but everybody deserves to know. I really ddint want to say too much The last couple of days, but have devloped the flu I am guessing. First started with Diarrea, then vomiting, the chills and aches, the whole nine yards. I really am in Shock, and pretty devastated. Met with doctors and not going to be able to start The race. :) just not healthy enough to be there, its that simple . I don't think its really searous just the flu, a bug or some bad food However just can't keep anyfood down and lost some wieght. I can't in this state Do one marathon let alone six, and hop on a bus to boot and possible get every One else sick. So 7 months of training down the toilet literally, and I have got sick in the Past but during the race not before. So I am pretty down. When your sick Your sick, there is just nothing you can do, However I know I Have great friends, a wonderful family, beautiful house, people love me, and Am strong mentally and physically, just maybe not right now :( so I am Extremly lucky, and right less the flue am in the best shape of my life . In saying that there are people in Fredericton who Don't have a home , don't have a family, live in cold and darkness, both Physically and mentally everyday. No body loves them and when they are sick And cold most people generally ignore them in their darkest time. There Is however one organisation in fredericton that tries to light up there Darkness, by providing medical and physical nuturing to the people that Need it the most. So if you can please donate to the unb health center. Via the Fredericton community foundation that would be awesome. Also I just want to send out a big thank You to my wife Raena and my little angets forest and river. I am over here throwing Up in a toilet and missing my little Rivers eighth birthday . Tear :(. Happy Birthday baby daddy Loves you very much. So this is Not the best news, but not the end of the world. I am sad and am sick, but it wil Pass. There are people way worse off them me being able to run in a race, I Will hopefully be healthy again in a week or two. However the untramarthon chapter In my life will have to close and time to move on to different things to grow And learn from. It is just way to much work, and running a marathon everyweek In the heart of winter it pretty taxing on the sytem, physically, mentally and emotionally As bad a some my of expreience may have appeared to be in some Of these trips, I have leanred and incrediable amout about me, life , people on 4 other continents, health, my feet, and my whole body. It was a ride. So thanks Everybody, time to wipe away the tears, maybe go throw up again, start to focus on Getting healthy and get back home. Don't forget the unb health center and The homeless , if you thought the winter was bad, try living under the bridge See you soon love bri. Xo An extra bonus a 5 hour cab ride to Urumqi/ maybe that will be the highlight

Wow, sorry to hear, Brian. But like you say, when you're sick, you're sick. It sounds like you created a lot of awareness for your charity and have a wonderful support system. Onwards & Upwards & hopefully another!

Brian - I know how hard you trained for this race, but every now and then life throws a BIG rock at you. Just know that you've made a lot of people aware of the plight of the homeless and poor in Fredericton. Fred and I will be donating to this cause because of you and if not for you we'd never have done this. We love you and look forward to your safe return. You have a big heart and you tried what most would shudder at. Take care. Cathy and Fred

Brian, I cannot even imagine how gut wrenching (pun intended) this deveoplment must be for you. After all you have done to prepare for this journey and your motivation to take on such a Herculean goal, the mental, physical and emotional letdown must feel crushing. Please don't feel like to have failed in any way - sometimes Gid has other plans for the path we might follow in this journey called life. Your emotional and poignant post moved me greatly, and may do more to shine a light on the plight of those far less advantaged than most of us, than if you had run 100 marathons. I will spread your story with others who might likewise be inspired. I wish you a speedy return to good health and a safe trip home to the love and warmth of your family and friends. Oh Brian, I'm so sorry to hear that you're so sick. I can't even imagine the disappointment that you must be feeling after working so hard to prepare for this. Bless you for all that you do in our community. Bless you for thinking of the Community Health Clinic and Fredericton Community Foundation at a time like this too. Your family, friends and community are proud of you! Come home safe.

Brian, I know how much you were looking forward to a great event and can only imagine the disappointment of not being able to start the race. A wise decision by the medical staff, which I'm sure you knew was the right one. Although you didn't complete this event, keep in mind your quest to bring attention to the needs of others if full of accomplishments: Devon Middle School, Autism, Homelessness, and the Health Center at UNB. And yes, you're likely in the best shape of your life. So my fiend, continue on your journey of bringing attention to those causes you hold close to your heart. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” -Winston Churchill Cheers mate, JT

My Wonderful Brian. I feel so bad for you. You worked so hard and had great dreams of finishing this one and to make a difference with the UNB Community Health Clinic. You did well to raise money for them and I\'m sure, whether you start, finish or no they will be very thankful. As for you, when you get home there will be a nice pool to drown that sadness in. Gonna quote you part of a song from Miley: I can almost see it That dream I am dreaming But there\'s a voice inside my head saying You\'ll never reach it Every step I\'m taking Every move I make feels Lost with no direction My faith is shaking But I gotta keep trying Gotta keep my head held high There\'s always gonna be another mountain I\'m always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I\'m gonna have to lose Ain\'t about how fast I get there Ain\'t about what\'s waiting on the other side It\'s the climb xo, Raena, Forest and River

Yesterday I orderred what I thought was a cappachino And got watermelon juice :). For super I just pointed at picture on menu. Looked like beef and rice, not sure what I got but the beef was not beef And the sauce on the rice was the most spiciest thing I ever tasted. No water so had to wash it down with some kind of tea There is no coffee , mostly teas, the little tv in my room Is almost all chinese. So I have just been playing with my pack to get it lighter And just rest. Last week had the flu and still am having some mild symtoms. Looking foreward to tommorrow and getting on bus to desert.  Yesterday was my last long run, and was lucky it got up to 24 C :), which is hot for eastern Canada so got to experiment with my electrolytes.  The last 6 months of training here would be more applicable to Antartica training, snow, ice and pretty much -20 for Dec to March, so nice to shed some clothes and get some heat training. Next week will do some more hills, but taper down the distance, some hot yoga and that should do it.  Next week will be doing the staring at all the stuff, and trying to figure out the puzzle of getting it all in the pack, then trying to figure what to take and what to leave. Checking the list , then doing it all over again. Cant imaging being Santa Claus Loooking foeward to getting on flight next Tusday night from Toronto to Beijing direct , then hopscotching to Bole !!

Great last prep Brian. Sounds like you are totally on top of things. Bar the compulsory packing and re-packing your bag at least 10 times - but some things can only be done at the last minute, however prepared you are.

Well thought Id write a quick first blog. Training is coming along here in Canada, with a brutal winter almost behind us.  Ah gotta love canada, we get all 4 seasons, the good and the bad. Actually just came accoss an article on what it is to be Canadian, i thought I'd share, see below, Also and most importantly , selected Charity, more to come in next blog. However  as difficult as it is to choose one it will definately be of assitance to the homeless and the less fortunare. bye for now/ bri

An Australian’s Definition of a Canadian

You probably missed it in the local news, but there was a report that someone in Pakistan had advertised in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed a Canadian – any Canadian.

An Australian dentist wrote the following editorial to help define what a Canadian is, so they would know one when they found one:

“A Canadian can be English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. A Canadian can be Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.

A Canadian may also be a Cree, Métis, Mohawk, Blackfoot, Sioux, or one of the many other tribes known as native Canadians.

A Canadian’s religious beliefs range from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu or none. In fact, there are more Muslims in Canada than in Afghanistan. The key difference is that in Canada they are free to worship as each of them chooses. Whether they have a religion or no religion, each Canadian ultimately answers only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

A Canadian lives in one of the most prosperous lands in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which recognize the right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

A Canadian is generous and Canadians have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

Canadians welcome the best of everything: the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services and the best minds. But they also welcome the least – the oppressed, the outcast and the rejected.

These are the people who built Canada .

You can try to kill a Canadian if you must as other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world have tried, but in doing so you could just be killing a relative or a neighbor. This is because Canadians are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, can be a Canadian.”
