Well the long day is over and what a day from hell.
So hot and long, we finally got into camp at 6 am this morning and what an emotional moment, its over! Well nearly.
Had trouble eating any of the freeze dried meals, so only had dried meat and nuts to eat, but plenty of water and electrolytes. The RTP people were very careful making sure that everyone had plenty of water where dehydration is a constant threat, possibly based on last year Gobi
This morning we are all sitting around telling event war stories and fantasizing about food, Chicken Caesar Salad is the most popular.
The final stage tomorrow is an 11k run to the finish line in Turpan, cant wait to see Viv and get a shower and some real food.and to drink something other than hot water.
Thanks to everyone for their encouraging messages its fantastic to receive them at the end of the day.

What a killer 37k of sand dunes and more mini sand dunes and 42 degrees!
A lot of people pulled out today and tomorrow is the big day, better eat and go to bed.
Didn't get much sleep last night as we stayed in a local village in their houses.
I may seem interesting but it was so hot and airless some of us ended up sleeping outside in the courtyard.
We also had to get up at 3 am to get bused to start line.
So long tough day.

Great effort Trevor can't believe you're getting through it with such (apparent) comfort. Or maybe you're putting a great face on it. Either way - keep it up?

Had a great day, plenty of river crossings, a 10k uphill section and then down hill most of the way to the camp.
Managed to keep the run walk strategy going till the final 4k when we entered the canyons, which was hot and airless and the pace slowed significantly.
Had my feet taped again ready for tomorrow, still feeling strong just tired.
My advice to anyone attempting this is go light on everything. Our packs are now getting lighter having eaten a good portion of the food.
Everything ok just taking each day at a time.

Today was a welcome break after yesterday.
Part of the mountainous course proposed for today was covered with mist and it was surprisingly cold, RTP felt it was too dangerouse.
So we started at mid day and the course was shortened to 20k, not sure how they intend to make up the short fall
hope it doesn't get added to the long day.
Feet are bearing up and the short day has been good.
Got used to the dried food and sleeping on the ground.
Tomorrow we will be doing a number of river crossings and the weather will start to warm up.

Hills and more Hills at altitude and i was wondering if i would finish at all at one point.
Back at the camp had my toes taped and now feeling good.
The landscape is fantastic snow capped mountains and endless hills and valleys.
Very excited about tomorrow which sounds like more of the same but with river crossings.

I lay awake in bed this morning thinking about the race and all the Super Humans that are in my age group! One guy's won it before; another guy's climbed 7 of the world's highest peaks and trekked to the North Pole! Then I drifted off and started to think about my aching legs and wondered whether I can even make it past the first day! I'm nervous, but excited. Bring it on.....!
