01 July 2011 04:03 am (GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi

Pete, Rob you would give me a gold star for today!

I started really relaxed, just kept going in my rythm, ate every 30 min a "sweety" kept drinking lots of water, had a salt tablet every hour didnt stay at any chreckpoint longer than 5 min.

Till the 52km didnt know what was my position didnt look behind me , didnt race anybody.

Finished on the 12 th position! Wow I am so happy with that! Course was really easy , kept hydrated so didnt get too hot. Thought of retaping my feet at overnight checkpoint but i was too afraid to look at them! I was right , my feet are mess( still dont know what to do with the blisters!) I have to wait for medics till thre morning!

Pete! Thank you so much for running me up the hills- I think it mentaly helped me cope with the course today!

Off to bed now!

Natalia, You definitely get the 'Best Admin Gold star award'....honestly, drilling your toe nails in front of a bunch of officers'....! Can't wait to hear about the blisters and shoes...Enjoy your pizza and coke and fantastic result. Rob

Nat\'s, Gold star....I\'m going to give you a big hug & a kiss when i see you (if Giles doesn\'t mind of course)! Super well done girl. It doesn\'t matter what anybody has told you before the race, at the end of the day it\'s all down to you and your own grit & determination to pull you through it. One of the Sandhurst boys was blogging about how one of the \'professional\' women races was drilling her toe nails by the side of the trail. Looks like you have a new career ahead of you...........

Slept two hours after Long March and now up waiting for others to come to camp!

It has been the most fun I have had for a very long time ! Cant wait for a cool shower and iced coke tho!
Last competetors are getting back here and the camp is the funniest sight ever!  Are we really paying to feel and look like that!

I am feeling much better  -  had a massive breakfast , than noodles , hot chocolate!

Peter, Rob BIG THANK YOU- i would never havre done it without you!

Gilles, baby I  cant wait to see you!

Natalia
Kochani

Juz po dlugim biregu! Jaka ulga!

Wystartowalam spokojnie i bieglam wiekszosc trasy.
ukonczylam najciezszy etap tych zawodow na 12 pozycji zostawiajac w tyle kilku silnych chlopakow!

Trudno w slowach opisac uczucie ulgi i satysfakcji!

Jestem taka szczesliwa! Jutro ostatni etap-10km - to dlatego, ze wszyscy maja skonczyc w jednym czasie! Na mecie czeka nas pizza i zimna cola! Jutro to juz bardziej wspolne doswiadczenie niz zawody!

Marysiu - dziekuje za twoje maile! Opowiem ci wszystko w sierpniu! Mozesz sobie wyobrazic jaka to pokusa!

Kochani!

Kocham

Wow

Absolute carnage today!

I loved the sand dunes raising up and down and goinf forever!Great fun. After that- dunetts- absolute joke! We were running thru these stuipid sand forever!
And these crispy thing with lots of dust  underneath, so we were sinking really deap!

It was brutaly hot, ran out of water  between each checkpoint, 37 km and we are having last people coming to camp now! at 8.30pm Just spoke to somebody - temperatures over 50 C- fun day!

Manged to get to camp within first 25 people-,I think but i was really tired. We were asked to buddy up- good job as next think they asked us to use compas to navigate thru part of the course as locals stole the pink flags! I would obviously have no clue how to do that!

I was in so much pain but i knew that if I lied down at any of check points i would never get up! I had my longest stop - around 5 min as i just couldnt be in the sun anymore! Plus i needed to go with somebody

My blisters are getting worse but I kind of like them as i need to stop to put a needle thru my toenails to realese all fluids and it slowes me down!

Peter- today would be a day i would kill myself but my blisters really hurt downhills so i am taking it bit slower!

Rob my admin went a bit downhill- i am too tired !

Pete- i am loving it! It is so much fun and the more pain the better! Tomorrow is  a big day- i am dreading a heat but we are all inthe same boat!

Eric- I wasnt supposed to get blisters! Still great fun, tho! Had medics tape them all tonight, realese the fluid- so painful and I am good to go tomorrow!

Simon-it is getting harder as I am really tired now.
I think it is all mental tomorrow - I have to be sensible as really want to go for it( with whatever I have left)

everybody thanks for mails and blogs!  OMG i  have just had scorpion running across my MandarinOriental slipper-that is worse than dunes and dunettes!

Mamo i Pani Rysiu, Andrzej!

Narobilam krzyku! I ja za to place!

Kocham Was i zadzwonie w sobote z hotelu

NATALIA!! You nailed the long day - really, really well done! I imagine you are doing serious final recovery and ADMIN now in camp before the last stage. To get up to 13th and be 2nd Lady is also a fantastic achievement in your first race, and even more when you consider you only started running long a year ago and actually haven't a clue what you let yourself in for or what you are doing!!!! Why did you ever listen to Rowley, Pete and I?! Awesome day - enjoy your well earned rest. Rob

Posted On: 01 Jul 2011 06:55 am

No siostrzyczko ,dałaś czadu ! Wielka sprawa ,taki wynik w debiucie.Podziwiam Cię i rozpiera mnie duma ,że mam taką siostrę .Daj czadu na ostatnim etapie , pozdrawiam .Brat

Cześć A to niespodzianka.

Wytrzymasz, jestem pewna. Agnieszka i Maja to moje koleżanki z pracy. Agnieszka przyniosła gazetę z artykułem o biegu, teraz czytam o nim w internecie. Byłam czynnym sportowcem i jestem dumna z twojej walki.

Blisters suck! I am feeling for ya, but looks like you are managing them well. Keep up the great effort. When you read this you will have finished the long day and are basically done. Congrats!

Posted On: 29 Jun 2011 11:14 pm

Well done on a brutally hot and tough stage - Pete would call it 'character building' stuff....but 'Carnage'does sound more appropriate!! I'm in China, probably unable to email in time for long day. You've cracked it ,ow, it is 90% mental and 10% in your head....break the 80km down into sections and you'll be fine. Pop a few pain killers and make sure you drink the recovery mix early...Doing amazing - look forward to seeing the feet and hearing all on return. Rob

Day three over, had a great start and all was going brilliant till last 5 km - my feet were in so much pain- I took my socks off and had blisters under toe nails- after 40 km in the sun I just lost it! Sat there crying for 30 min till i told myself it wasnt helping the situation!

I never paid any attention to all the blisters care so didnt know what to do,eventually put a needle thru it , got blood and some dodgy fluid out and walked to the camp.

Sam came in the car as somebody said that I was sitting on a side of the road crying, for a moment I was very tempted to get into the car but  I am not letting some blisters stop me! from completing my run!

Lost lots of time tho , shame as it was my best day, till that stop I was running really strong .

One bloody thing I was so sure i wouldnt get is really effecting my running.

My feet look a complete joke, i have five really painfull blisters and feeling sorry for myself.

But I have to just run thru the pain !

Girls from FR- thank you for your support- if you think i am mad- you are  so right! It is great hearing from you!

Keneth- as you said it is tough but fun- cant wait for TW this year

Simon- thanks for your support.

Rob- i am loving it! The more pain the more fun!  Sleeping bag and matt are just bollocks!
Pete you have  to train me now to Atacama! We need to have a strategy for my feet tho!

a bit gutted that there are not too many uphillls- I am strongest uphills and downhill run is just so painfull now with blisters.

It seems there is a strong team out here and it is a privilage to compete amongst them!

Rob, Danish Jimmy says hi- he is completely mad! Great character tho!

I miss nice bath and massage and salad and bed but it is actually not as bad as i thought!

Staying in the village tonight- so cool, camp next to the river so we are all bathed and smelling lovely!

Olivia - I will so need this voucher ! Mind you didnt bring enough food but have day and night cream!

Rob, Pete- think about my Beef Stew while eating pizza !

Lots of kisses
Nat

Natalio, let my positive thoughts come to you on every meter of this dangerous race. I wish you successful wind park, as much as possible of clouds and little sun, inexhaustible energy and boarding the same positive vibes. A place in the ranking does not matter - for me you are the best! Rysia

Rysia

Nat, Keep up the good work, you're doing amazing, all of us are cheering you on, thinking about you, and loving every post you leave online, you blogger you. Im taking off to Canada tomorrow evening, but look forward to seeing you when i'm back! Not enough food, but got the vanity-bit covered, goodjob nat ha, did you manage to bring a copy of your glossy??!!

Posted On: 29 Jun 2011 05:01 am

Haha, you haven't finished this one yet and you're talking about Atacarma! It's sound as if every body is getting blisters, with it being so wet. Admin admin admin. As soon as you get into camp, hydrate, eat, hydrate, hydrate, eat then feet, eat, hydrate, pictures, hydrate, sleep. Take the insoles out of your trainers to give you more room. Which size shoe did you take in the end?

Posted On: 29 Jun 2011 02:43 am

Go Nat go go go! You really are a mad woman!! Just think blisters will give you a great excuse to have a pedicure/massage when you get back! You're doing so well. Amazing!! Lots of Love from the FR girlies! x

Posted On: 29 Jun 2011 02:41 am

Hi hun, We are all thinking about you here in the office. Much sympathy for the painful blisters, I hope they are healing! You are doing amazing, just got to keep going. Just remember we are all thinking about you and wishing you well. Much love xxx

Posted On: 28 Jun 2011 11:54 pm

Your doing so well!! Some blisters are not going to stop you, following your blogs faithfully, and I'm sending you healing energy from Thailand for the feet, good luck on the next stage

Posted On: 28 Jun 2011 11:29 pm

Hey Natalia, great going - the blisters under the nail are ok - keep drilling/draining them to ease the pressure - especially before sleep. But the nail will protect them for now, just thin paper tape them first thing. You are doing really well, just keep the momentum up, you've got the low point out the way ;-) Pain is temporary, quitting is not an option just because you won't be able to get your heels on! RJ

27 June 2011 02:46 am (GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi

Day two over- only 21km due to fog, run on a road -i didnt enjoy it! I am  weak on roads and a bit gutted that there were no hills.

Came third but i thing i am still second overall. The lady just behind me won Atacamain 2009 so guess it will be ok to lose to her.

Got a horible blister that has a blister inside- very painfull- so much for never getting blisters! Anyway I hope that it will not stop me but defenietely will make me go slower- cant put my trainer on at the moment

Rowley , you were right I am dreading tomorrow -  i am aching and a bit low and there are 5 days to go! I am HUNGRY- really should have taken more food!

It has been raining whole day! So much for being in the deser! Rob, Pete- glad I did that training in May!

Otherwise all good, I feel really down today even tho it is so great here!

There are no emails today- I really want to hear from you all and I am so sad that i cant.

Wow

Day one over and i cant imagine doing it for another 6 days!

I felt it was quite difficult and it looks like some people found it really hard! Just been to medical tent and heard that several people pulled out!

When I arrived to the pre camp yesterday I thought "I just really want to have fun and not worry about places!"

I think it sort of worked i  went in a steady pace and walked last 10km.   I just learnt that i was second female_ how did it happen?
I dont want it to get me all worked out . I  just want to finish the race ..I know that if I dont have any injury or do something really stupid I can finish it, But GOD the first day really humbled me.
There were two nasty uphills and I couldnt stop thinking THANK YOU PETE!  They were brutal but i knew i could do them..

Overall I am having a great time , the scenery is stunnning and it is just  great being part of it all.

Rob , I went completely mad with admin- you would be so proud !

Whoever adviesd me to take slippers is in my bad books, there are lots of prickly things on  a ground and my Mandarin Oriental fluffies are useless!

Cant eat on a run i wish i took more pocari, had half of bar and was proper sick. I recon that i will just eat some run snacks pre run and finish them afterwards.

I am seriously worried about tomorrow! But hey I am here and I will just do my best.

Off to have my expedtition food and try to get some rest.

Great first two days Natalia - glad you are staying on top of your ADMIN!! Don't let it slip - eat all that spare food and just take it one checkpoint at a time. Some really experienced competitors out there, so you are doing fantastic. Admin = looking after yourself so you can go again tomorrow. RJ

Well done. It's good that you walked the last 10k. It show that you are thinking and not going crazy trying to push it too much on the first day. Day one is always hard. All those months of nerves & jitters. As i said before, just take it easy and find your groove. Did you take any sweets or something to suck on,while on the go? The slippers will be Rowleys idea. Relax and remember that there's nothing that they put in front of you that you can't get over,if you take your time.

Nat! I was so thinking of you yesterday. I did a 40 minutes run and almost couldn't finish it off till home and thought about you all the time. You're such a great motivator/ roll model. In the end I could finish my run because I was thinking of you. Thank you for that!! All the best!! Sabrina

baby , thats absolutely fantastic . 2nd wow your are the best !!! just got back in from Budapest this morning. Wanted to try and blog you when i was in Milan airport but as usual in italy nothing worked and i had run out of juice on the tap top. I have to say the wedding was amazing. Went for a beautiful run when I landed along the Danube and then off to the wedding at 4.30 pm The whole thing was up in the castle and old town. The reception was in the grounds of the old Castle . We even had a horse show followed by a sound and light show !! Totally OTT ! think I spent 16 hours in Budapest all awake from 1.30 pm in the afternoon to 5.15 am . Tim and Kristina were so thrilled I had made the trip and sent you many messages. Wish you were there baby . Would love to here your voice now. I'm typing this blog from the Cathay arrivals lounge . Off to work. would love to hear you voice now . Big Kisses for day 2. G x x

At the first camp. We were welcome with some  fresh fruit, bread and pepsi-I guess it is the last time I have been eating anything nice and from tommorow it will be all exp food and jerky

After all these months off worring ,asking all the questions, driving  you all mad I am here.

More excited than nervous now, waiting for the day one to come. I am planning to take it really steady . It  will be really hard and against my nature  but I will  try not to die after day one.

I promised myself to take this race a day at a time but after  looking at the course discription cant stop worring about stage 4 , 44 km thru sand dunes or dunnets(what are they?-they sound lovely but probably they not)!

Peter, do I run them or walk?

We need to get up at 2 am for this stage , 3h drive to the start point!

Anyway it is in 4 days and I shouldnt worry now!

I  ended up with 8kg pack, shaved few grams after check as i had well over 2000kcal a day  so should be now around 7.8kg, seems that i got all i need and I hope i wont be hungry the whole week!

off to my tent  to do my ADMIN, Rob!

If in doubt then walk. Just take it easy and get into a groove. I hope that you are feeling better?

I have just unpacked and re packed my gear for the 10th time! Managed to keep all the mandatory equipment and food(absolute minimum of 2000 calories per day) just under 7.5kg!

Seemed light till I remember the weight of 1.5 l of  water!

4  days to go and I am a complete nervous wreck
