I am finally getting this blog thing together....well relatively together anyway. Its been a long time coming but  I am not going out early for a run tomorrow so I have a bit of extra time at night to reflect on the past 12 months and the next four.

I think the biggest challenge to getting thoughts down on screen is getting me and then the thoughts out of my head. I dont know about you (yet) but one of the things I like most about my training is spending time, sometimes LOTS of time, in my head. Its so nice sometimes that it takes a bit to reconnect with the less ambulatory world around me.....go on....fess up, you like that as well dont you?

So...whats with the name huh? Fast Uncle? Well it has a lot to do with where I live. In Singapore (5degrees north of the equator) anyone over the age of 40 (and i more than qualify) is called 'uncle' - its sort of a local term of endearment and respect.....and for anyone younger than 40 its a bit of a dig. For anyone who hasnt been to Singapore its quite hot and always humid so virtually nobody does anything fast and again I must say that I also qualify on this front - hence the name - Fast Uncle - a touch of irony to tickle the corners of my mouth when I am 30km from the end of the fourth stage and my sense of humor has been freeze dried, reconstituted and slorched down in the hope it might contribute that little bit of extra protein to my trek weary frame. Gotta love a bit of irony.

My very first set of gaitors arrive tomorrow and I am curious to see how they work tomorrow afternoon when I take them for a test run around McRitchie Resevoiur. I have been training there for a littel over a year and just recently decided to find the Bukit Timah link trail to add more Ks and change up the terrain a bit....got lost 3 times and ended up doing closer to 45k that day....but thats another story. Anyone else use Maccas for training?
