Stage 5 is over…77 km or about 47 miles is behind me now. Yesterday was my best day physically and mentally. I finished in 15 hours 54 minutes, which was the goal the talking llama said to make…under 16 hours. The heat wasn’t as bad as the previous days, actually pleasant…midway into the stage we hit the 800’ tall sand dune that was 1 km distance to get into the mountain pass. It was a great dune to climb, very easy. I made the overnight checkpoint 12 hours in had dinner of instant mashed potatoes, 4 cheese flavour and a packet of olive oil. Fuel to get me through the final 17 km or 12 ish miles.
As of the end of stage 4 I was in 68 position, not sure how I am ranked today but I hope I hold or move up. Today is a rest day in camp, we are about 5 miles from San Pedro and tomorrows stage is the final push into town. According to folks who have done this race before the entire town shows up to cheer everyone in. Also I was told they would have pizza and beer at the finish line. Hopefully my feet hold out, the blisters are okay but my Achilles of both feet are very swollen. I think they will carry me through. Thanks for everyone encouraging me on it helps.

As long as the elephant and the llama don't appear together you're fine.

As I sit in my recliner drinking a cold beer, I came across the movie Hidalgo. The desert race reminded me to check in on you. Very interesting look at things! Either your sense of humor is still intact or you are hallucinating terribly. Either way, great story!!! Now go show them how you can hike till the mountain goats puke. It's only 2 more chains...

I would email but can't figure out how. Anyways, I'm glad your having fun! Happy Full Moon and you better take a pic because I hear the view is breath taking there. See you on the other side of the finish line..all the way back in Alaska. Remember your feet have to carry you through AT LEAST two more deserts and only the rest of your life. OK...that being said, GO GET'EM TIGER!!!

Yesterday after check in and briefing, we boarded buses to camp one. 1 hour 45 minutes to go to camp one which was at 10.800 foot elevation. We found our tent and laid out the sleeping bags and waited for darkness to hit. Sam from Canada and I ordered pizza before leaving San Pedro and had one last dinner. After dinner we climbed into bed and waited for sleep. It was 7:30pm. Around 3 am I became cold and that was when it was 30 degrees. Woke this morning at 6:30 in the dark and prepped for the day. We were off promptly at 8 am and while it was sill cold

My flight from Seattle to Atlanta was delyaed 30 minutes and with a 45 minute window to change planes in Atlanta 15 minutes just wasn't enough time to make the connection to Santiago. So A night in Atlanta and rebooking on the same fight for the next day was done. Of course this ment the connecting flight from Santiago to Calama needed to be changed as well as the hotel reseration in Calama. Now I remember why I don't like reservations. Anyways I had a good night sleep I still have all my bags and all that was really lost was an extra day in San Pedro and being at altitide. Maybe I can ask the pilots to crank up the cabin pressure to 8,000 on the flight to Chile?
