Yes I saw 2 pictures of you on the stage 3 pics. There were two of you running in the background a mountain.
I have read some other blogs about stage 3 . There is a British guy called Jonty. He explained it all in detail and it sounds as if challenging is an understatement . Well done David

Finished stage 1 in a time of, roughly, 6 hours and 20 minutes. It was extremely hard. Runners woke up to a freezing morning, not really knowing what to wear. As the day went on it became very hot. Lots of climbs. 1 stage down 5 to go

Hi Dave...there's a picture of you in the pre-race photos...looking cool there. How are you handling the altitude? I saw pics of previous races where you actually have to walk through rivers and streams!!. Hope everything works out...you're the best!!

My original plan was to try and get as much race gear as "carry on " luggage. My travel agent advised me against that, the expedition food may not pass all the security checks..(not customs) Inside the belly of the plane there's supposed to be no problem. It's not what I wanted but I don't really have much say. I just hope my luggage arrives at Calama. It's a 3 leg flight...

I've just checked the weather forecast and on the first day of the race it may rain! We're going to the driest desert in the world and we hit the one day of rain....Well, the forecast could change untill the race starts. In Jordan, we had rain on the first night and competitors used their survival bags to keep dry. To be honest, the Bedouin tents faired well with the rain and my main concern was the water drenched fabric, I felt that at some stage the tents would just cave in because of the weight of the water...That did not happen, full credit to the Bedouin! I want this race to be dry, PLEASE do not rain. I've had enough of this humid summer in Israel. I want it to be dry and hot, full stop. Happy training/tapering/partying to everyone, see you all there!

David, I am SO with you on the dry and hot conditions!!
I really don't want the same cold wet start to the race than in Jordan. See you next week!!

hmmm, I don't see any long range forecast with rain; they all show "zero" probability...

It's time to enjoy. What's not been achieved in training up to now, will not be achieved until the race. So it's time to enjoy my running and down some beers!! It's called a before party, not an after party. Not really looking forward to the flight, 26 hours....I think Ryan Sandes ran Atacama faster than that. I will be a bit more conservative, if I manage to do it in less time than all my airborne hours, 50 hours, there and back, I'll be happy. Can't wait to meet everyone....

Some incredible pictures from Madagascar! Wish I was there.....I should be thinking of Atacama. So, where am I when it comes to preparations? Plane tickets-done. Equipment-50-60% ready. Extra days accomodation-not done. Back up plans-not done. Mental state of mind-stressed, but that"ll go when I'm at the start line. Physical condition-"half baked", after running in the sun so much, I feel like a Kentucky Fried Chicken. A podium position? Yes, that is close up to it, looking up at those who stand on it...Oh, much of my equipment will be from the race in Jordan, still with the lovely Bedowi camp fire smell, doesn't matter how much it's washed!!

I'll be running with Brooks Cascadia 9. In Jordan I ran with Cascadia 8 and they did the job. Dying to try out Hokas but it's too late in training for trial and error. Trust my friends to scare the sh_t out of me when it comes to running at altitude, some of them can't spell the word marathon let alone run one, they've been all over the world, they probably reached the summit of Everest before Hilary and Tenzing (don't think they were born!!) Seriously, any advice to do with altitude running or adapting will be most welcome.....

Hey David, While the course starts at elevation (around 3,300m) the good news is that it gets progressively lower as the week goes on. You may find yourself more lightheaded and/or out of breath than usual at the start of the race, but it will get much better by day 2. Some competitors don't feel it at all, and most competitors use it as an opportunity to start slow and get into rhythm. Good luck, and see you soon!

This is the cause I'll be running for in Atacama, Israeli Flying Aid. This charity gives emergency help to people in the most hard hit areas in the world, be it conflict or natural disaster. A lot of what they do goes under the"radar" for their safety, so the Aid workers don't get much acknowledgment for their life saving operations. Here is there link so you can read more about what they do.

Here we go again! What can I say, I'm very excited and want to be in Chile already. It'll be great to meet new people and also those I ran with in Jordan. This is my second race and I'm expecting it to be harder than my first. In Jordan, I must have been on a bit of an adrenaline flow, If that feeling repeats itself, I'll be happy....
Happy training to all!
