My favourite running shoes by far are my Vivo-barefoot Breatho Trails. Anyone else considering running in flat, minimally cushioned shoes, or is this a really bad idea?

I am thinking of getting those too, but I wonder if my feet might be better off in cool, light and airy shoes. Not having entered a race like this before it would be a gamble for sure!

I plan on wearing Altra Zero Drop Lone Peaks just to have some level of protection when going through the salt flats. I have read the salt flats can really tear up your shoes and it sounds like we will be covering some good distance on the flats.

Training at home started out well, with a lot of good windsurfing (cross training...) and many 20km runs, some with a 10kg backpack. Training while working 5 weeks offshore onboard a ship is not all that easy. I guess I overdid it with the back pack and treadmill and pulled my calf. Then pulled it again before it properly healed and then strained my neck. Lesson number 1 well learned. Time to make a proper progressive training schedule and get down to business! I could do with some charity fundraising lessons as well.
