Catherine Seems like quite a relaxing July for you. Good luck with the moving and the wedding. A good choice of shoe very comfy even better with Sorbothane double strike inner soles. See you soon. James

Well Mary, that's good news. My poll on the forum said 6 people voted for trail and only 1 for road. I'm assuming the road vote was yours, so that means your opinion counted 6 times more than the other people's!! Cat

Hi Catherine, we get the best feedback on Asics shoes. The trail shoes can be a real hit or miss. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and look forward to meeting you in Chile. Mary

Hey Mark! Good to hear from you! You have no idea how much you kept me going during that marathon. I was so bored at 16 miles and having someone to chat to made all the difference. Yes, my fondness for beer and cake has been kept in check recently due to wedding dress diet (which sucks incidentally), but I remember the cake when I got back from WP - Yum!!! Although one beer later and I was snoozing my head off on the sofa! Anyway, good to hear from you and keep in touch if you'd like any kit recommendations. I've got one possible alternative to the Raidlight on order which is a 30 litre pack from a british company called inov-8. They don't sell direct, but I got it through sweathshop.co.uk. if you' d like to get in touch, feel free, I'm on [email protected]

Just back from Gobi - massively reccomend Raidlight Sac (altho understand about waist belt) but it is designed to sit high up. Lots of people used Ultimate Mountain Marathon packs (25 litre - forces you to think hard about kit and weight). Really strongly reccomend road shoes - 1.5 sizes up to allow feet to swell. Bags of other titbits if you are interested (I know I can be irritating on this sort of thing!). Drop me a line if you want - [email protected]

Hi Catherine, Just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for the motivation at the 'White Peak' marathon, I have a funny memory of charging down steep hills at 23 1/2 miles chanting 'beer and cake' to take our minds off of the knee pounding, big thanks. Good also to meet your future hubby Ian, i have read his MdS race report on the Man Tri site, just hope my own experience comes somewhere close. Good luck with the 'crossing' i hope it goes really well, let me know how you both get on. I'm back up in the peaks in Sept to tackle my first ultramarathon 'High Peak 40'. P.S. I'm not much bigger than you, If i dont go for the raidlight, any recommendations. Good luck to you both in life and racing. Mark.

Hi Catherine, I have been following your progress since you started your blogs last year. I feel I am in the same boat as you, I only took up running in Oct last year and now I too am only 9 weeks out from this race.. I am running with my partner and special friend, (He showed me this race 18 months ago and I told him he was on his own, who would have thought???). I haven't run any marathon's and had signed up for my first on the 8th July, but it is all on the road and I dont think it would be too advisable as I suffer with knee pain when running on concrete. I have run the distance many times though. I am looking forward to meeting you and all the other competitors in August, good work with your training. Sally

Cheers Hamish. You should stick at the ice baths - they are great - I'm fully converted now! Tip is, wear your watch, and take a book in with you. If you can get past 2 minutes you'll be able to do 15. Swearing also helps. I defintely wouldn't say I'm hard as nails (!) but perhaps yes, I am a little bit harder than my beloved - Ian 'Half Bag' Jones! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

Hi Catherine, loved your last blog. I tried the ice baths 6 months ago and only lasted 2 minutes before I wimped out, my kids all started crying as they hadn't seen Dad in that much pain, confusion and using that much colourful language. I haven't gone back in..... Sounds like the repair work is going well, most people I speak to say the clincher on finishing these events is mental, and you sound hard as nails, so should be fine. Hope the next month goes well for you, Cheers Hamish

Hello Cath. just saying hello and hope you are well. I had a nightmare month after the 50, but, back at it now. I feel health but not running strong...But my work situation and location should be more in tune with my training from now on, and i shall be able to train for the first time with my team, Whay.. Have a good run for me, the Gods know I need a few.

Hi Catherine, take it easy and rest. You still have a lot of time to train. Let your injuries fully heal. I enjoy reading your journals! Mary
