Atacama Crossing (2010) blog posts from Charlotte Valentine

It has been a hot hot hot week.  The area here is beautiful.  The folks that are running are a great bunch of people.
The days have been quite long and the nights cold and short.  But all is well.

I did not make the cut off so my atacama race is done.

Thanks for the support
Charlotte

Was that you we ran into in the Santiago airport on Monday (the 15th) night? We were the Navy group that had been down to survey the earthquake/tsunami damage. Got curious about your adventure, so I told a runner here at the office and she knew ALL about such races. Small world...we're from Charleston! The photos of the race showed just how grueling it was.

Great Job Charlotte!!! You were a winner before you ever started, no matter what happens. remember... its not about running down the mountain, its all about the climb!!!!!!!! Good for you, see you when you get home.

Your Virginia fans checking in and want to let you know that we think what you have done is absolutely amazing! We can't say we know anyone up here that would attempt to tackle what you have in Chile. Even though you didn't make the cut, you are still a star in our opinion.

First day complete. Beautiful sites to see, lots of volcans.
Hills, rocks sand and sun.  Its very hot, windy and dusty.
Feet are in good shape at this time.  However the altitude and sun
has caused belly problems.  Feeling much better at this time.

A special note to Rory,  everyone is keeping an eye on me, lots of people
thanks for looking out for me.  They are great.

To the bootcamp folks  these hills  kick but.

How awesome is it getting to do this!!! Having the strength and ability is unrealistic to me. Pull everyone thru as you do everyday, you GO GIRL. We are thinking of you and wishing you and everyone a safe finish. See you back home. Cheering for you and singing you a few songs(like bootcamp) to help you through the tough times.

From Virginia, and who were in awe of your talents in the ER, You have to be the best ER nurse we've ever been around. We remembered you telling us of this race and are tracking you. Our thoughts & prayers are with you, from what we saw of you when working, there is no doubt you will do great in this challenge. Be careful and safe.
