hey guys,

many-many thanks for your emails, blog and text messages and support during the race. unfortunately the blog idea didn't work out very well from my side, but we've crossed the atacama desert and finished the race on saturday after 47:54:27 hours on rank 55 ... overall a great event, a lot of stories to tell and an unique experience ... now we're off to argentina and mendoza ... and soon back in town.

stephan

good morning ... our 2nd day in the desert went well ...  we´ve organized a quick jeep-tour to bolivia with a couple of runners from hong kong and england ... driving up the mountains from 2400m to 4850m in a 4x4 ... amazing view and beautiful countryside.
today is the official packing- and checking-day and then off to the base camp where we´re going to stay for the night. start of the race is tomorrow morning at 9 o´clock, so watch out the competitor list at the finish line ... it might be the first and last day of the race :-))) ... greetings from atacama, stephan

22 C Sounds more like the 2009 marathon in Hamburg, not like a desert run. ;-)) P.S.: I missed you at the photos and videos.

Hello London Street Runner Steve, du scheinst ja dein Rennen gut eingteilt zu haben. herzlichen Glückwunsch aus Rodgau. Jetzt sind es nur noch 10km. Also Endspurt oder in aler Freude auslaufen lasen? Achim,Giti,

Steph Ellie has been reading your blog and says hello! We both think that you are mad but we hope that you will do more than exhaust yourself and have the energy to leave something positive behind in Chile. xxx

dear all,

it all started on a cold december evening in a small restaurant at the hamburg aussenalster over a nice bottle of wine where I was silly enough to bet with a running-crazy guy ... sorry tom but you're really crazy :-) ... and the (un-)fortunate commitment to run a marathon. when he casually mentioned stories about his adventures at the marathon des sables and other events, all of the sudden I was infected with the running bug as well. now after several hours and miles on london's streets, 4 marathons in 9 months, 24h on the famous nordschleife on my beautiful italian bicycle, a training-tour in the uae and oman-desert and running up and down at the bottom of jebel toubkal, I guess it's time for my next challenge: 250km in 7 days.

I officially declare this blog open - any progress or news will be available on the website and any blog message from you guys is welcome.

yours
stephan

Good luck, Stephan, nothing can stop us in our wonderful life-feeling but don´t forget: "Die Schwierigkeiten wachsen, je näher man dem Ziel kommt" (Goethe), daher nicht gleich am Anfang alle Körner verpulvern, sondern die ersten Tage Zurückhaltung sich bewußt einfordern.

Steph, I´m not sure what to think of your challenge. But believe me, you will earn my respect whether you finish or not. You train a lot, you afflict your body with your diet. There is only one reason, why you could lose my respect. If you don't listen to your body and make one step too much in reason of abnormal ambition. But if you want to torture yourself need next time. There are much more cheaper options. und denk immer an die Worte von Heinz Schenk: Wir müssen nur flexibel sein, dann trinkt die Welt auch Apfelwein P.S.: Am Ring mach ich Dich trotzdem platt und wenn es nur die Reifen sind. ;))

Herr Lanz. I can't believe you are doing this, but I am soooo impressed. Just think of that pack getting lighter each day you eat.... Keep the blogs coming if you can lift yor fingers to type each day

Mr Lanz, good luck and all the best! Enjoy it because it can't be tougher than a week in the environment where you are usually spending your time.
